Scientific Evidence of the Patented Ventilation Technology The scientific significance of the patented ventilation technology was investigated by a multidisciplinary research team* consisting of experts in ergonomics, clothing physiology, and fluid dynamics. Ergonomic tests were conducted with safety-shoe wearers in the industry to compare ewest® safety shoes with the patented ventilation system to general safety shoes without a ventilation system in terms of temperature, humidity, muscular load, and subjective comfort. Air flow through the patented ventilation system during walking was quantified and visualized.
*The multidisciplinary team consists of researchers from Pohang University of Science & Technology (POSTECH), Kyungpook National University, and Republic of Korea Air Force Academy. POSTECH was ranked No.1 in 2012 and 2013 among the top 100 universities under 50 years old (source : Times Higher Education World University Rankings).

Inside-Shoe Temperature
The skin temperature measured at the navicular bone was found less increased in ewest® shoes than in general shoes on average by 0.1℃ during the rest period and 0.5℃ during the exercise and recovery periods.
The inside-shoe temperature measured at the toe region was found less increased in ewest® shoes than in general shoes on average by 0.6℃ during the rest period and 0.3℃ during the exercise period.
Outside-Shoe Temperature The thermography analysis on infrared photos taken after the exercise period showed that the surface temperature of ewest® shoes was lower by an average of 0.2℃ and a maximum of 2.0℃ than that of general shoes. Amount of Sweat
The inside-shoe humidity measured at the toe region was found less increased in ewest® shoes than in general shoes on average by 15.1% during the rest period, 11.1% during the exercise period, and 15.2% during the recovery period.

Outsole Force The average and peak forces measured during the exercise period using an outsole pressure analysis system were found decreased in ewest® shoes by 9.9% and 5.6%, respectively, as compared to those in general shoes.

Subjective Comfort All the subjective comfort evaluations such as thermal comfort, humidity comfort, pleasant feeling, fatigue sensation, fit, and cushion comfort were found signigicantly increased in ewest® shoes by 7% to 38% as compared to those in general shoes general shoes ewest® shoes

Air-Flow Quantification & Visualization Air-Flow Rate Airflows through inside and outside vent holes during the compression and decompression of the midsole of the ewest® shoe due to walking was quantified using a custom-built airflow measurement system (consisting of a laminar flow rate element, a pressure transducer, and an A/D converter). The maximum airflow rate at the inside and outside vent holes varied from 80 to 125 cc/min depending on walking speed, body weight, and gate pattern.
Air-Flow Visualization Airflows through the vent holes at the midsole of ewest® shoe was visualized using a gas generator with Nebelfluid and a laser sheet generator. The airflow visualization clearly confirms the effectiveness of the patented ventilation technology implemented to ewest® shoes.
