With cool coastal breezes, fertile soils and a temperate climate, the art of wine production is just in our nature. Almost a dozen cellar doors are scattered along our Shoalhaven wine trail, with unique experiences that showcase much more than wine. Connect with our thriving viticulture scene on a deeper level. Did you know that in addition to tastings, many of our wineries offer some very cool experiences too? A spot of high tea amongst the vines at Cambewarra Estate is great for a girls’ weekend and birthdays. Foodies will also love the ‘Regional Tasting Plate’ at Coolangatta Estate, which features wine tasting served alongside olives, oysters and local flavours. The vineyard’s 4WD tractorbus, Bigfoot also takes visitors on a scenic and exhilarating ride. Take it up a notch and view our coastal vineyards from the air. Silos Estate can arrange a visit by private helicopter, where you land right in the middle of the winery! They also have several electric vehicle charging stations for all the green drivers out there. After sipping on your wine, venture down to meet the cute alpacas that call this property home.

Mountain Ridge Wines are also rolling out EV charging stations, plus the vineyard has musicians playing on Sundays and an on-site art gallery. Bawley Vale Estate hosts Music on the Lawns some Sundays, where the winery is filled with tunes, pizza and great vibes. They’ve also just launched The Grange, a stunning industrial venue and great spot for indoor tastings and events. Indulge in an entire day at Cupitt’s Winery, Fromagerie, Brewery and Kitchen. The family business has recently been inducted into the NSW Tourism Awards Hall of Fame. Cupitt’s is the perfect place to have a meal or a drink on the deck and watch the sun set over Burrill Lake and green rolling hills. Reel in Holiday Memories Dust off the rods and shoot the breeze with some mates. The Shoalhaven’s freshwater lakes, rivers, beaches and open seas offer plenty of opportunities to wet a line and bring home a catch. Try your luck because a bad day out fishing sure beats any other normal day! The St Georges Basin estuary is ideal for fishing adventures, with calm and sheltered waters and a peaceful setting, well known for flathead and tailor. Settle in at Basin View boat ramp or venture to the canals of Sussex Inlet*, a local hotspot for both lure and bait anglers at the run-in tide. Whale of a Time Go wild about whales along our coastline. We’re so lucky the enormous migratory journey, otherwise known as the Humpback Highway is right on our doorstep. Between May and November each year when you visit the Shoalhaven you can see these captivating creatures from land-based lookouts, eco-cruises or even up-close with a brand-new whale swim experience! Humpback whale numbers have risen significantly in recent years and we are so fortunate they stop by to say Hi! every year. With one of the longest migratory voyages of any mammal on earth, the whales retreat to the warm waters of the Pacific in May to August to give birth, returning south with their newborn babies around September to November. The calm waters of Jervis Bay are an ideal halfway point along the route, acting as somewhat of a crèche for mums and their calves to play, rest and learn whale behaviours before returning home. During the May to November migration period, whales can be spotted right from the coastline at vantage points such as the

stunning, ruined lighthouse at Cape St George in Booderee National Park or Warden Head at Ulladulla. A guided whale watching eco-cruise, however, is the ultimate way to see these magical animals. Jervis Bay Wild and Dolphin Watch take guests out on the water from Huskisson while providing commentary about the region and fun facts about the whales and their calves. They also offer dolphin watching cruises year-round. Further south, Ulladullla Fishing Charters also provide whale watching tours for small groups on demand. Port Venture of Jervis Bay Wild caters for people with limited mobility, offers wheelchair access, and boom-net adventures in the warmer months.

There’s also a brand new experience which offers the once in a lifetime chance to swim with the whales. Dive Jervis Bay holds one of only two licences in NSW waters to offer this incredible experience. Whales are super curious animals, sometimes approaching boats and divers to see what they’re up to. On this four-hour tour, you’ll actually be in the water with them. The best time for this tour is September to November on their migratory journey home.

Leave Only Footprints We don’t inherit the earth from our grandparents – we borrow it from our children. It’s important to keep our destination as unspoilt as possible for future generations. Get involved with Take 3 For the Sea by taking three pieces of rubbish away with you whenever you are at the beach, every bit helps make a difference to our environment. Many of our wineries and boutique hotels are leading the way for sustainability, with numerous electric vehicle charging stations across the region. Just hop on board and enjoy your road trip, your car will direct you to the nearest charge point.

Say No! to bottled water and refill your own drink bottle, the Shoalhaven recently won the gold medal for best tasting water in New South Wales! It’s likely that you’ll be café hopping during your stay too, so why not bring a reusable coffee cup along on your trip, many of our local cafés will reward you with a discount. Our Visitor Information Centres in Nowra and Ulladulla sell KeepCups and reusable bags, making it easy to leave only footprints - Mother Nature will thank you for it.

When printing this guide, sustainability and enviromental initiatives were taken into account, so you can rest assured it is produced with the environment in mind.

Welcome to our business location

SHOALHAVEN

Chris Sievers, CEO of Air Affairs relocated from Melbourne to the Shoalhaven in 1984. At the time it was a logical base for a company who provides specialist training services to the Defence Force. Two years ago, the company, based at the Albatross Aviation Technology Park in Yerriyong, started providing a centralised turnkey service, which has resulted in a staff increase from 30 to 130. ‘’Air Affairs has the largest Learjet 35 fleet in the world and maintain the aircraft totally from top to bottom and don’t rely on any third party for maintenance.’’ “The Shoalhaven has great talent and we want to capture young people so we can grow the company with locals, rather than bringing in people from Sydney or overseas.”

What’s on offer

• Lifestyle benefits all year round • Cost effective Industrial land • Committed and stable workforce • Local business networks • Supportive local Council • Easy access to Sydney and international markets
