CANBERRA – BUNGENDORE, 38KM From Canberra, take the Kings Highway/National Route 52 and head for Bungendore. If you have time a stroll through the craft shops is well worth it. Otherwise continue straight ahead towards Goulburn and Tarago BUNGENDORE – TARAGO, 30.8KM Leaving Bungendore, proceed along Tarago Rd across the railway crossing into the village centre. If time permits, you can wet your whistle at Tarago’s Loaded Dog Hotel, established in 1848, famous as a ‘safe house’ for bushrangers such as Frank Gardiner and Ben Hall. Otherwise proceed straight ahead crossing the Braidwood–Goulburn Road. TARAGO – NERRIGA, VIA OALLEN FORD RD, 58.6KM From Tarago, through the line of pines along Cullulla Road turn left at the T-intersection onto Sandy Point Road and then, after a few more kilometres, right onto Oallen Ford Road, near Windellama. Be aware that there are about 3km of unsealed road and as you approach the Shoalhaven River there is a sharp hairpin bend just west of the Oallen Ford bridge.

Tiangara Falls

Note the Oallen Ford bridge currently has a 5-tonne limit and is closed to trucks and heavy vehicles. At the end of Oallen Ford Road, turn left towards Nerriga onto Nerriga Road. Situated at the end of Morton National Park, Nerriga consists of a pub and general store. Nerriga celebrated in October 2010 when the sealed road from Nowra was completed. Now even more popular than ever, the Nerriga Pub is just the place to stop, have lunch and swap a few yarns – the perfect halfway house.

Huskisson Beach

NERRIGA – NOWRA, 68.1KM Continue along Nerriga Road following the signs to Nowra. Along the way, during the extremely short season around March/April, keep your eye out for chestnuts for sale at Sassafrass. For a spectacular view, turn-off to Tianjara Falls lookout. As you approach the Defence base, HMAS Albatross, turn left onto Albatross Road, then along Kinghorne Street to arrive in Nowra township. ALTERNATIVE ROUTE TO JERVIS BAY To travel to Jervis Bay or south to Ulladulla, Turpentine Road is an all-weather unsealed road to Tomerong, for access to Jervis Bay via St Georges Basin (south) or Jervis Bay Road (north).
