about.

Young people have something to say. Shopfront is a vehicle for creative young minds to make their voices heard. We would like to acknowledge the Bediagal and Kameygal people of the Eora nation who are the traditional custodians of the land on which Shopfront is built. We pay our respects to those elders past and present, and to all our brothers and sisters of our first nations people.

This is an inclusive space for all young people, a space where young people come together to express themselves. To learn, share and bring their imaginations to life. A space for celebrating the amazing ideas and creativity generated by young people and emerging artists. As a co-operative organisation, young people have a say in and lead everything we do. Through Shopfront, our young artists gain invaluable skills in artistic leadership and community building, shaping and becoming the next generation of creative content makers and community leaders. Our members make daring, adventurous and socially relevant work across Australia and Internationally. Their combined voices are those of tomorrow’s leaders are essential to Australia’s cultural and political landscape.

In partnership with ATYP

Investigating how food brings the ones we love together and how conversations around the dinner table get us to the meat of the matter. Through the exploration of text, movement and local interviews conducted with community members, the Bodylines Ensemble will investigate the foods we like, dislike and why food emotionally connects to us all. The Ensemble will delve into discussions around the food they regularly eat and enjoy... and ultimately question themselves.

Shopfront Arts Co-op

This explosive new work fuses movement, projection and sound with the personal stories of young adults. Shopfront’s Harness Ensemble joins forces with actors from ATYP to interrogate the worlds we find ourselves in. Merging performers with and without disability we hold a mirror to our preconceptions of what is appropriate, what is possible and what can be expected. There’s a dignity in the freedom to make mistakes. That’s where we learn the important stuff.. Recommended for ages 14+

Young people explore their connections to place through their own real and imagined stories. Partnering with Sydney Story Factory, young people will fill Campbelltown with their original stories. There’ll be performance, visual art and creative writing.

Shopfront Arts Co-op

The project runs throughout the year, and you can join us in November 2017 to experience our large-scale public event.

DATE November INFO Get in touch if you’re interested in coming along!

Shopfront partners with local schools for an entire year to look at how art can enable us to see everything a little differently. Young people work with us to explore school space and their memories and connections within it. They hunt for school stories. They takeover the school with large events and installations which celebrate school life and look at what students want to change. They develop a functional, long-term art project which will have a sustainable impact on school life. We’ll even be developing our links between schools in Australia and Mexico through small-scale interventions. Join us in November and December as the projects are revealed. You’re a grown up … but you still love Shopfront? Of course you do! If you’re over 26 and want to help support our young artists and the co-op, join the Friends of Shopfront. The Friends have a vital role to play in ensuring that the voices of our young artists continue to be heard loud and clear.

There are many opportunities to volunteer at Shopfront for young people, parents or carers, individuals and organisations. We usually need help with things like cleaning, selling tickets or running the candy bar, and keeping our garden. If you would like to volunteer, please get in touch with us to discuss how you would like to get involved.

Every month Shopfront members and their guests get together, eat pizza and watch double feature movies on the big screen at Shopfront.

Shopfront allows space within our artistic program to respond to offers put forward by community members.

Movies are chosen and hosted by the Voice of Shopfront.

Meeting twice a month, the choir is an opportunity to build confidence in using your voice, learn classics, and create new songs to share at Shopfront and other community events.

If you would like to pitch a project to us, download the expression of interest pack from our website, or grab one from the office. Remember we program in advance, so don’t wait until it’s too late!
