SPECIAL SECTION
Karns High School is upgrading its website. Already, the site contains vast amounts of information. Principal Dr. Tracy Sands spoke last week to the school’s PTSA board. Then she did a “hands-on” tutorial, letting parents navigate the updated site on library computers. Most impressive is Sands’ commitment to easy and quick communication between community and school personnel. The website includes her principal’s performance contract. Everyone can see her goals and the superintendent’s expectations. There’s a quick teacher contact list that includes email address and voice mail number for most of the faculty. “There are no phones in the classrooms,” she said, “but each teacher has voice mail. If you don’t get a response in 24 hours, call me.” Sands added: “Karns High School is about who we are, not what we do.” Future updates will include pictures of students in myriad activities. Teachers are concerned and even stressed out about new evaluation requirements, she said, “but I tell them. In any job in the world, if you do your job you’ll keep your job.” Sands is proud to have added “strong veteran teachers” to the Karns High faculty. “You can improve forever and still need to improve,” she said. Doesn’t sound like someone worried about being a “3.”

of Kingston Pike off Lovell Road, Plumb Creek Park will be wellsituated for residents of the Hardin Valley, Ball Camp and Karns communities. The first stage of the project includes completion of a trailhead, a roughly one-mile walking loop and a parking area. For canine lovers, PetSafe is do-
