Community Calendar SATURDAY, MARCH 13th -The Fremont Fire Department will be having a Take-Out Fish Dinner on Saturday, March 13th from 4 PM till ?? at the Fremont Social Hall 299 Millrace Rd. Mount Pleasant Mills. All proceeds benefit the Fremont Fire Department. SATURDAY, MARCH 20th - Open Kettle Soup, Sandwich & Bake Sale, An open kettle soup, Bake sale and Sandwich Sale will be held on Saturday, March 20 beginning at 10 a.m. at Millerstown Community Park just outside of Millerstown on Juniata Parkway. The sale will be held at the Millerstown Community Building, and the proceeds will be used to continue the beautification, upkeep and maintenance of the park. The sale will continue until everything is sold. Chicken Corn, Ham Bean and and Beef Vegetable will be the three kettle soups that will be available for sale by the Quart or bowls with lids. Baked goods and snacks of all kinds will also be available for sale. Sandwiches for sale will be Ham and Cheese and Hoagies (Subs) to take home also; no one will be allowed to eat at the community building; ALL FOOD IS TAKE OUT TO ENJOY AT HOME Donations of baked goods or snacks will be greatly appreciated. YOUTH ART DAY 2021 ENTRY DEADLINE The deadline for entries for the 2021 Perry County Council of the Arts (PCCA) Youth Art Day is Monday, March 15, 2021. Categories include dance, music, drama, visual art, video, literature, and graphic design. Readers may submit entries online at perrycountyarts.org/youth-art day. A $2 fee for each entry applies. Public, private, and homeschooled students residing in or attending school in Perry County are encouraged to participate. Youth Art Day is an annual showcase of visual art, music, and literary talent from students or residents of Perry County in kindergarten through 12th grade. The event generally features a large student art exhibition, music and dance performances, literature readings, kids’ activities, an artist demonstration, and an awards ceremony. But, this year, Youth Art Day 2021 will be held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic. Entries will be published on PCCA’s website at perrycountyarts.org/youth-art day and social media accounts on Saturday, May 15. BATTLE WEARY By Candy Wray
In our lives, there’s a time we need to rest, and a time we need to fight, and a time when we are so battle-weary, we need a break from the fighting. I am not ashamed to say I am battle weary my friend and need a break. But, even though I am battle weary, I am not giving in. I am not giving up, and I know just where to go to free myself from the clutches of the war torn mind, body and spirit. God is my hiding place, my refuge, and my strength. God’s word is a place of rest, of respite, of peace, of shelter in the storm. A place I can go to turn off the noise, and the defeating self-talk, and the sound-track of condemnation, shame and inadequacies. It’s in His presence, His word, in His promises and in His arms, that I can hit the stop button on the emotional roller coaster. I get to revoke the grasp of hurts and disapprovals and rejection, cast down sins of the past, purge the chaos and unyielding circumstances of the present and cancel the woes of tomorrow and the sting and pain of the moment. God’s word is the opposite of a double-mined man, believing one thing today and another thing tomorrow. God’s word is unchanging, perfect, faithful, focused, not confused, and not hypocritical. Because of this, the psalmist confesses that God Himself is his strength and his protector… [Psalms 119:114] You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word. God’s word is a place I can go to get away, to get off the treadmill of life and breathe again, to be reminded of who God is and who I am to Him, how much I am loved, how faithful God is in my life, and be refilled with faith. We all need a hiding place, that place of rest. And God’s word is that place. His presence is life-sustaining and we can quickly be re-charged. But there are also times when we need a break, when the battle doesn’t let up. The trial isn’t stopping, and we can’t seem to catch our breath. That’s the time God’s word is our shield – in the battle, a source of protection, one who takes the brunt of the attack, guarding our hearts against temptation, against discouragement and fear and anxiety. God’s word is a shield from the arrows of the devil. The Bible says, “In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one” (Eph. 6:16), that even in the heat of the battle, we are able to stand, and when we’ve done all we can do, we stand, and when we can’t stand any more…we kneel. We can be encouraged, we can be hopeful, we can be joyful, because God is faithful. God upholds the hurting with His promises. (Psalms 116-117) “Lord, according to your promise, in line with the covenant you have made with me in your word to be my God and to be with me, I ask that you uphold my life, keep me from going under. Let me live. Let me not be put to shame in my hope. Be the breath within my lungs and the fire within my soul. But this only happens when we give everything over to God, when we give others access to our lives – when we take time to talk, to open up, to share trials, to be vulner-

able. Not to receive pity, but to give others a window into how good God is in our lives. God wants to make your life and my life a signpost for His grace. We should not only tell the gospel. We should also let our lives show it, to display the gospel to others. Be a billboard of God’s grace by showing others how good He is to you in upholding you with His word. Those who live for Him find that Jesus is not only our Savior from sin, not only the Just Judge, but He is the Friend that sticks closer than a brother. He is faithful and true. He is our help and our hope. He is our hiding place and our shield. He wants you and I both to know today how much He loves us. And He wanted you and I to know this so much that He wrote it down in the pages of the Bible. God’s word is a reminder – whether you’re in a battle and tempted to give up, or you’re comfortable and facing the temptation to be complacent, may God’s word be our strength and our hope…TODAY, TOMORROW AND FOREVER!
