New Label Crush ADRIFT I heard that Brisbane based label Adrift has a bit of a cult following. To find out what all the fuss is about I flew to Brisbane to find out for myself. I was given a tour of their HQ and itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s run like a well-oiled machine & everyone is so happy, no wonder their customer service reviews are spot on (they offer free returns too). What I really got from the tour was that they really understand what women want. They offer super chic clothing that is affordable without compromising on quality; nothing is over $150. Super Woman LARISA GERRARD Larisa (Ris) is the wife of Mark Gerard, a former wallaby who now plays in Japan, mother to four amazing kids Markus 12, Milana 10, Mateja 6 and Makson 5 and recently opened her own Barre Pilates studio, Be Pure on Sydneyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Northern Beaches.

. cover story I have known Ris for some time now, we have mutual friends but never really met. My chiro suggested I call Ris and start one of her classes for my back & neck (I have bulging discs), first class I was hooked I bloody loved it; not only was Ris very attentive with my injuries but a super cool chick, we just clicked and Ris has been punishing me ever since (sorry Ris). In all seriousness the difference in my back and neck is unbelievable, my core strength is so much better and I can ever plank for a minute and most of all I really love it, you could say I am hooked & I do like staying in my activewear all day. While taking the classes I got to know Ris quite well. To me she is a super woman. Raising four kids while hubby is away most of the year in Japan which includes running all four kids around to various sporting activities & school, starting her own business and a little birdy may have mentioned that there could be a book in the future. We sat down with Ris and asked how she does and of course we wanted to know where she likes to shop, Ris doesn’t mind a bit of s shop, it’s probably why we clicked. What is it about Barre and Pilates that you love? I absolutely Love my Pilates and Barre Attack classes! I love that Mat Pilates creates body awareness, strength, alignment, prevents injury, flexibility and most of all tone! It gives you a full body workout. It uses your body as resistance and you can also use a range of small Pilates props to deepen the intensity of your workout. I love keeping my classes Small and personalised so all my clients receive individual attention and guidance from me. Doing 2-3 sessions a week will start you on a path to a healthier, fitter lifestyle. Barre Attack is a low impact, high intensity workout combining

the best of all the things I love the most. From standing Pilates work, short cardio intervals, to dance moves in a ballet class. The class is for everybody at all levels of fitness. With the flowing sequences your body is realigned, balanced and centred. Best of all you feel more connected to your body, giving you a sense of self confidence which can only be ignited through the joy of movement. Barre Attack will help improve your posture and balance, it will improve your fitness and flexibility and most importantly it will tone your tummy, butt and legs. Mark has an amazing career as do you, it does have its challenges raising 4 kids while Mark is away. How do you do it?

My mama (you all know her as Baba!) is my Saviour and helps me out SO much with the kids, I just can’t physically be in 4 places at once.

Do you really want to know?? Hahahaha!

The odd weekend I get to go out with friends, have a few drinks and a dance and let my hair down! Something I need and LOVE. Every school Holidays we fly to Japan and spend it with Mark!

I must be VERY organised. With all the running around for School drop offs and pick-ups, lots of rugby, numerous dance classes, swimming trainings, touch football, jiu jitsu…the driving never stops so I must be organised. It gets overwhelming at times but keeping my healthy nutrition up makes a huge impact on my everyday life. I also force myself to go to sleep at a decent hour, this helps me too. There was a long period of time that I was only getting 4 – 5

You have an amazing little tribe. All four are very talented in both sports, music and dance. Do you think this comes from you and Mark and how important is it for kids to be active in sports? Yes, our kids are very active and love their Sports, Dance and Music!

Markus our eldest is a mad Rugby head just like his daddy and of course would love to follow in his footsteps one day! He has the best coach at his fingertips and now must learn to listen to his wise words and commit like Dad does. Music I think comes from both of us! We are both musical and love it. All our children are obsessed with music and LOVE learning it. Milana is the guitar playing singer and I’m not sure where she picked that up from but both mark and I can’t sing. Mark thinks he can but we don’t agree.

Dance comes from Mummy. Mateja is so in love with her dancing as is so committed. I wish I had as much opportunity as she did when I was her age. I didn’t start dancing till I was a lot older as we were so busy with Swimming, nippers, Softball, netball and everything else we did as young kids. We think it’s important for our children to be a part of a team, to learn how to communicate and feel a part of a family other than your own. Making new friends other than at school is so important. To concentrate and focus on a passion, a love, also keeps kids off the beaten track and heading down a wrong road. We constantly talk to our children about the dangers surrounding them and learning to make the right choices in life as they grow and develop in to young adults. You have travelled quite a bit, what’s been your favourite destination so far and your favourite place to shop

I have loved travelling over the years. I would say my favourite destination I have ever been to is where my family originate from.... CROATIA.

It is just sublime and this year we could take the kids back to where it all began for my Father and Mother. It was the most memorable time and I know that the kids will never forget it, we waited till they were all old enough to remember it when they are older. So much history, pure aqua blue sea to swim in everyday, pure nature, bliss, heaven. Kids never wanted to leave... neither did I. Mark suggested we move there. You never know one day we may be able to chase the endless summer and go there every summer with our kids. That will be a dream but totally achievable one day!

The range of shops there are phenomenal; from Prada, Gucci, Chanel, to GAP, Nike, Adidas, Disney, Homewares...the list goes on. Another bonus it has a HUGE theme park next door so you can kill 2 birds with one stone. Happy Kids = Happy Shopping! hahah!

My favourite place to shop overseas would have to be France, Vegas outlets and Japan outlets. Over the years of travelling I have picked up some amazing pieces for amazing prices that I still wear to this day and am still complimented on them. Winning. You and the family travel to Japan a couple of times a year to visit Mark. Any shopping tips for Japan? I haven’t travelled around Japan so much we tend to do stuff with Daddy so am limited with my shopping experiences however, we love going to Nagashima Outlets where you can pick up amazing prices on Sports gear, shoes,

Favourite Active wear label. I don’t have one. I wear many labels. I am always testing and trying new tights, sports tops which best suit my body shape and support me for all the training I do. I wake up every day and put on my Activewear and the next thing you know it’s 10pm. It must tick all the boxes; stylish, comfortable, supportive and hold you in in all the right places. My faves at the moment would be The Upside, P.E Nation, Amin and Cotton on Body. Always on the hunt for new funky labels! I know you love your fashion, outside of activewear who’s your go label. Shopping is another love of mine, just like you Kath! Online is massive for me, I just don’t have that much spare time these days. My go to labels are Bassike, One teaspoon, Camilla (for a gorgeous jumpsuit or maxi) YSL, Gucci, Balmain, Jimmy Choo (for handbags and shoes On the Outnet), Zara, Cotton On, Bonds and Sportsgirl for basics.
