BEDDING & BATH Hamptons breakfast tray $195 hotelluxurycollection.com.
THERE IS NO BETTER FEELING THAN JUMPING INTO BED AND WRAPPING YOURSELF UP IN CLEAN CRISP SHEETS AND LETTING YOUR HEAD SINK INTO WHAT FEELS LIKE A FLUFFY CLOUD AT THE END OF A LONG DAY. I love good quality bed linen and bath towels. Yes I am a bit of a Monica Gellar (from the sitcom Friends) I have different categories at home for towels; everyday use, guest towels, special guest towels and decorative towels (never to be used for show only). Wow writing this down I think I know why hubby rolls his eyes at me when he asks what towels he can use.

Our Love Affair with Shoes “WHY DO YOU NEED SO MANY SHOES?” hubby asks me as he shakes his head and stares at my wardrobe in disbelief. It’s not just my hubby; millions of men want to know WHY women have such a love affair with shoes Well I’ll tell you why.
1.
You can’t wear the same shoe every day.
2.
Our shoes need to match our outfits
3. 4.
They need to match our activities for the day. You can’t wear a stiletto to pick up the kids from school or open toe shoes to go for a bush walk. See what I mean As the years come and go, women’s clothing size may fluctuate. One year you’re a size 10 then after a few years of indulging in cream buns you may suddenly become a size 14. Guess what? Your shoe size will stay the same and will always love you.
With more and more online stores opening it means we can shop 24 hours a day, men should be afraid, be very afraid. Styletread.com.au has thousands of shoes to choose from. They have a large range of Australian and select International designers like Guess, Mollini, Tony Bianco and Steve Madden with fast and free delivery over $65 and a 30-day free return policy.

Shipping is reasonable at £16.50 and delivery is within 5 working days. Mine should be here just in time for the weekend. Now what will I wear with them? A recent find is shein.com they have been popping up in my social feed, the styles and pricing caught my attention. Before I could spread the word, I bought a pair of mules (pictured) for $50 which included delivery, arrived in less than a week and I love them. It wouldn’t hurt to check out some of their clothes too. Shipping is free on orders over $75 otherwise $9 shipping. This is an affordable way to stay on trend without the hefty price tags. I still wear shoes I bought 10 years ago. So, when you find a site you love always go to the sale section, guaranteed to find bargains. Always keep your eyes and ears open for upcoming sales in store and online. I add things I love to my Wishlist and wait till their on sale unless of course it’s a need not a want.

I’m pretty lucky, I receive hundreds of emails every week from PR’s and new brands wanting me to have a look at their product and or online store. I love supporting new Aussie labels. When I checked out Bare Bones, I could tell it was quality, then I checked out their website and couldn’t believe the prices; so affordable. I had to see and feel the product for myself. Seeing is believing as they say. I caught up with Paul Hanna, owner of Bare Bones to view the entire collection. I was totally blown away. Paul’s eye for detail and quality is faultless. Paul has 17 years’ experience in the music, design and fashion working alongside many fashion names over the years helping them to shape their brand’s identity, something he describes as a “huge buzz”. With that same passion Bare Bones was born. Keeping things classic and timeless the Bare Bones wallet known as the ‘standard’ was an instant sell-out. The collection has now expanded into watches and sunglasses.

Paul, draws his design inspiration from life’s simple pleasures. Aimless adventures, long drives, his favourite albums, rock stars, vintage cars and classic 70s films.
14
Although predominantly known as a men’s accessory label, I believe it’s unisex. I wear the watch and the sunglasses. The only style that seems to suit me is the aviator, I did mention this to Paul and he insisted I try a pair on. Yep looks like I have another style to wear now. Flashing Lights Night in black you are mine. I have always said there is a difference between cheap and nasty and affordable. Bare Bones are extremely affordable without compromising on style or quality. Wallets are made from 100% premium Italian leather only $64 for the Elements Wallet & $97 for the Standard wallet. His latest watch and sunglass collections follow Hanna’s design ethos of ‘keeping it simple, uncluttered and beautiful’.

HELP, I HAVE SO MANY MAKE I DON’T KNOW WHICH ONE I
I’m so confused. I’m no expert w
makeup, shoes and bags sure as
want, but makeup, nope can’t he
So, I thought it best to bring in the big guns and ask for some help. Jacqui Hutton is one of Australia’s most sought-after hair and makeup artists. She works for all the major television stations in Australia, transforming their network stars, but is also in demand for movies, music videos and photo shoots. Jacqui is passionate about hair, makeup and beauty products and is an entrepreneur at heart. With that passion and spirit GLINDAWAND™ was born. GLINDAWAND MAKEUP BRUSHES HAVE BEEN EXQUISITELY DESIGNED AND PAINSTAKINGLY CRAFTED TO CREATE THE WORLD’S MOST BEAUTIFUL MAKEUP BRUSHES. 24CT GOLD-PLATED; UNIQUELY WEIGHTED DEPENDING ON ITS APPLICATION; EVERY BRUSH HEAD IS HAND-MADE, WITH SPECIALITY FIBRES, THAT LOOK, ACT AND FEEL LIKE NATURAL FIBRE. THESE STUNNING MAKEUP BRUSHES GIVE A PROFESSIONAL AND LUXURIOUS APPLICATION OF YOUR MAKEUP, EVERY TIME YOU USE THEM.
18
Jacqui’s number 1 rule when choosing your makeup brushes is to invest in a few good ones. They will cost more initially, but well worth the investment, giving you a professional finish for years and years and years. Most people believe it’s all about the makeup, truth is.... it’s the tools that make all the difference! A good quality makeup brush can let even the most inexperienced home makeup artist get a more professional finish and make even cheaper makeup look good. You don’t need 12, 15 or even 30........ between 2-5 will put you in control of that elusive and often frustrating morning necessity. NO. 1. LARGE POWDER BRUSH $108: This brush will set your foundation and leave your skin looking fresher, all day long, this brush also applies mineral powder foundations perfectly, using small circular motions to buff the skin and keep it looking flawless. You can also use this brush to apply bronzer plus it applies blush like a pro. TIP: This brush has one more trick.... Pinch the sides in and you become a contouring genius. NO. 2 FOUNDATION BRUSH $79: A must have if you use liquid or cream foundation, this will buff your preferred foundation into the skin
and leave it looking fresh and clean. Small circular or crisscrossing motions will leave you with a true professional finish. Tip: don’t forget to go down the neck and onto the décolletage to avoid a masked effect.

5.
NO. 3 MEDIUM DOMED POWDER BRUSH $89: If you only invest in 1 brush this is the one. the universally most used brush, it covers everything, sets your foundation, eye wash, blends, shades, contours, blush.... you name it, if you only invest in one brush, this is my absolute desert island brush, big enough to matter, small enough to care! It’s ideally for getting into nooks and crannies for powders, and washing one colour over the eyes, TIP: it applies colour in a more directional way so, you can build and create just like a professional. NO. 4 EYE SHADOW BRUSH $59: The shape makes the difference you can apply your eyeshadow exactly where you need it, cover your lid, create a socket, smudge edges and blend it is a very creative brush even in the most inexperienced hands. A couple of colours will change your life and look!! TIP: the shape of this brush gives a perfect lip application. NO. 5 LINER BRUSH $49: I have added this brush over a small blender, because, I think it is important to a brush with a sharper edge. This is the brush you will use for eyeliner, defining your brows. TIP: it is brilliant for lining your lips and brows if you want a very clean sharp shape.
FINALLY, THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU SHOULD ALSO INVEST IN IS A QUALITY MAKEUP BRUSH CLEANER ($21), it sounds so simple but most people don’t. A quick spritz will clean and most importantly sanitise your brushes, keeping your investment brushes in tip top, professional condition, giving you an extra 5-10 years of happy makeup applications. . cover story
FROM THE BEGINNING: I was a finance broker for over 20 years, I was good at my job but was bored. Did a few part time ventures along the way; photography I even had an exhibition called Palms, it was a sell out, I painted and drew for a while, imported homewares from Bali especially the ate (which is type of weave they do that is then smoked in honey), you know the bags you are seeing everywhere now, the basket bags that are round, well I bought those in about 8 years ago and I’m sure there were a few other things too I’ve done. I got bored with those ventures too hence why hubby calls me the fad girl. I have always loved to shop and I love designer clothing and shoes but shopping in Australia got boring and designer was out of my budget, gone were the days that Oxford Street Paddington had all the new and hip designers, it wasn’t long before they were all in Myers and David Jones; I totally understand why for commercial reasons but for this shopper it was no longer exciting.
About 7 years ago Mike and I had a trip to Hawaii, the shopping excited me like you wouldn’t believe. I loved the choice that was available, 60kg later and a wardrobe of clothes and shoes to die for. The sales were insane and the choice that got me excited. I have always had champagne taste on a beer budget and still do. I shopped online in Australia but had never shopped on overseas websites. I had an event to go to and wanted something you couldn’t get here. This is where my best friend google came into play. I searched DVF dresses and a website called shopbop appeared. I checked it out and saw THE DRESS. I remember it was on sale but can’t remember what I paid for it. I was a bit nervous, did a bit of research, they had great reviews, I thought the free shipping over $100 and delivered in 3 days was a bit dodgy, almost sounded too good to be true. I bit the bullet and added to cart. What the heck?
22
Three days later the courier delivered my parcel, and the dress was exactly what I wanted. I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited and that feeling I got when I opened the package, that was it I needed that hit again. I was hooked.

That same week I also had a win at grays online when I purchased 5 amazing gem stone pendants valued at $10,000 and I picked them up for $1000 and they came with certified valuation certificates.

I STARTED BUYING MORE AND MORE ONLINE, THE CHOICE, THE SALES AND THE CONVENIENCE MADE SHOPPING FUN AGAIN. Remember I was working in a corporate office and didn’t have time to go to the shops so online made it possible. More and more friends and family started asking me how and where do I shop, so one night after a few glasses of wine I asked Mike what he thought of the name ‘Shopping Confessions’, his reply what now fad girl. The name just popped into my head and I explained the blog idea and typical hubby said, ‘go for it’. Still working full time, I would come home and work till all hours of the night, not knowing where to start. I haven’t done a website before, I’m great with numbers but with writing, nope, who do I call, where do I start. After hours of research I knew exactly what I wanted. Logo done, name registered and all that other stuff now time to build a website. I was referred to a company, I won’t mention any names who said they could build me a website for $600. IT WAS RUBBISH, I had to push back launch date and ended paying

someone else to build it for me for a lot more than $600. Going cheap isn’t always the best choice. I made a lot more mistakes but will save the details for another time. Website launched, I paid a writer to put together a Press Release for me so I could email out to TV, print and whoever else I could think of. A week later I received a phone call from a producer at The Morning Show on Channel. I seriously thought it was one of my girlfriends pranking me, I could have even sworn a couple of times. Eventually I believed them. They asked if I could do a segment called Bag A Bargain for them, sure I said, no problem. I hung up and was crapping myself. I’ve never done TV before, and had no idea what I was going to do. Hubby to the rescue again, “babe you got this, just talk about what you love, and please don’t swear”, when I get excited and passionate I do tend to drop the F bomb. Yep, I wore the dress on my first TV appearance. Driving into the studio was hell, I vomited out the car window most of the way, was
24
I became a bit of a go to for anything shopping related, I was doing segments frequently for 7, later for ACA on 9 and 2 months later had a column in The Sunday Telegraph ‘Shop Smart’ pull-out and even some radio. Might sound like it has been easy, I’ve only given you the short version. It’s been blood, sweat and tears. There have been many times I have wanted to throw it all in, just a few months ago I was ready to shut shop. It’s like 2 steps forward one step back. The first 4 years were so hard, I was doing so much work for free to build a reputation, it’s only been the last 2 years that everything has paid off. It’s when I receive emails from our shopping tribe sharing their latest purchase on a recommendation I have made or a new Aussie retailer thanking me for a mention and saw a spike in their sales that make it all worthwhile. So, thank you.
One thing I have always been is honest, especially with product reviews and recommendations. I will always stand by our motto “where you can’t pay for a good review”. Authenticity is everything. I’ve met some amazing people along the way and can now call some of them my friends. At the end of the day I’m doing what I love even with its up’s and down’s but I do think my excuse that it’s research when all the deliveries arrive is wearing a bit thin with hubby. Oops. I WANT TO THANK Shopbop for changing the way I shop The Morning Show for giving me a crack All the amazing brands and companies I have worked with over the years, it’s been an honour to work with you. Especially our shopping tribe Hubby for saying ‘go for it’, this is the longest fad I’ve ever had. Happy Birthday to us

Guess How Much I love You I’m always on the look-out for special gifts for kids. I know technology is a big part of growing up but I prefer to buy good old fashion gifts; basically, anything that doesn’t involve a screen. The television series from Australia’s very own SLR Productions is based on the bestselling book, GUESS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU™, published by The Walker Books Group and written by Sam McBratney and illustrated by Anita Jeram. The book, which is published in 53 languages, has sold 32 million copies globally and in 2014, celebrated its 20th anniversary.
Always ready to play and laugh, Little Nutbrown Hare bounds through his days with a twitching curiosity. The ever patient Big Nutbrown Hare lovingly leads his son on journeys of discovery about the joys that nature holds. Inquisitive Little Field Mouse and mischievous Little Grey Squirrel often join them on adventures and not too far away they might encounter clever Little Redwood Fox or Little White Owl with her tall tales of mystery and magic. Together they explore the meadows, forests and streams, playing, laughing, and discovering the wonder that the world holds.
The animated series relates the adventures of the Nutbrown Hares and their friends with the same endearing charm and love that has made the book a timeless story time favourite which I love to read with my nephew Zac.
Late last year SLR Productions announced the company will be producing two x 26 minute ‘Holiday Specials’, Little White Fawn – A Classic Animated Easter Special and The Long Journey Home – A Classic Animated Christmas Special.
GUESS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU DVDS AND BOOKS ARE AVAILABLE FROM LEADING RETAILERS AND THE ANIMATED SERIES CAN REGULARLY BE SEEN ON ABC KIDS.
This will be a favourite of mine and Zac’s for many years. 26

PAWING THROUGH ONLINE PET SHOPPING SITES
KATHY & MAUI The best thing about buying online for pets is that your dog really doesn’t care if its bum looks big in that coat or that the latest fad of studded collars doesn’t match his or her submissive personality. We simply get to choose what we like and subject them to the humour of others when they visit the park. You can hear the cattiness now (pardon the pun) “did you see Spike arrive in the latest Gucci pet carry bag”. Our pets give us unconditional love and in return we spend an enormous amount of money on them. In fact, according to the Animal Health Alliance, Australians spend an enormous $8 billion per year on their furry family When I create my spending budget, Maui my beloved dog sits very high on the list. There’s a common theme with pet lovers, we treat our dogs and cats like they’re our children. The main difference is that at the end of the day when human children grow up they generally leave home, our pets are still sitting on the couch beside us when they’re long gone. So this really is reason enough to search for the best products available and what better place than online. OUR RESEARCH FOR THIS COLUMN WAS MOST ENJOYABLE, REAL QUALITY MUM & FUR BABY TIME. OBVIOUSLY, WE HAD TO SAMPLE THE MERCHANDISE TO FIND THE BEST SITES OUT THERE.
28
it’s no good to have a great homepage, loads of products but let us down on service with no stock availability and slow delivery to our door. For a shopping experience that makes you feel like you’ve actually walked into a warehouse, start with mypetwarehouse.com.au, not only does this site offer absolutely everything, they have daily specials, you can almost hear the sale being called over the loud speaker as you arrive on their website. They offer a very easy to navigate site and shipping throughout Australia. From birds to fish, dogs and cats, fish or guinea pigs it is your one stop shop. My Pet Warehouse owner Philip Bartholomew says, “since opening our stores we realised many of our loyal customers needed the convenience of accessing our products on a weekly basis without actually walking the aisles.” So now that Maui has everything she needs to keep her fed, wormed, warm and entertained, we need treats as you would have read last month Maui can only eat fish treats due to her condition but jollie.

ANOTHER PARADISE LOCATION The Cook Islands is one of the most remote paradises in the South Pacific. With a total of some 240 square kilometres, the fifteen islands and atolls cover a sea area of almost 2 million square kilometres.

MIKE AND I HAVE A REAL SOFT SPOT FOR THE SOUTH PACIFIC. We are slowly ticking one off one island at a time. This trip we visited Rarotonga in the Cook Islands which is located between New Zealand and Hawaii.
Think palm fringed beaches, stunning mountain scenery and endless tropical weather and not a traffic light in sight, no chain stores and no building is taller than two storeys. It is complete paradise. It’s currently winter but with an average temperate of 26 degrees during the day and 20 degrees at night it feels like summer to me. They say the best time to go is the dry season
April – November. December through to March is wet season making it very hot and humid. Rarotonga is approx. 32km around the island, best way to see the Islands and discover some hidden treasures is to either hire a car or a scooter. We ended up renting both; it did rain a couple of days we were there so we had the car too. Riding around the island on our bike was so much fun. If you don’t want to drive you can bus
The Cook Islanders would have to be some of the friendliest people we have ever met.
it, with the island being so small there are 2 buses; clockwise and anti-clockwise. The other thing about The Cook Islands I felt safe as I do in most countries but there was something quite peaceful and calming. Can you believe that there is only 16 people in their prison now, I know population is approx. 13,000 but that’s low. Also, Rarotonga is so clean even in the main town, spotless. Before I get into what we did I will let you know we tried to see as much as we could under the circumstances. On our flight on the way over, we flew Air New Zealand (who were fantastic) a girl was coughing and spluttering the whole way. The day after we arrived Mike and I came down with a head cold and a major chest infection. We forced ourselves to go out during the day but of a night we were in bed by 7-8pm. In saying that we still had a great time, we still laughed and smiled but can’t wait to go back and explore more. The Cook Islanders would have to be some of the friendliest people we have ever met.

DAY ONE: Our first day we ventured off to the markets in town which are only held on a Saturday morning till 11am. A great place to shop for some local arts and crafts. I picked up some beautiful coconut oil, a chilli & coconut oil as well as coconut and lime oil both perfect for salads or fish. Of course, I picked up some sarongs because you can never have too many; but I must say these sarongs are some of the most beautiful ones I’ve ever seen they ranged between $20-$30NZD. One of the things we found is the locals are so proud of what they produce that they tell you a story behind the product, it really filled your heart. Next, we rode around the island and found some great eateries and swimming spots like the Lagoon in Muri, we’ll be back during the week. Normally our first day it’s more of an exploring day; getting to know our way around and looking for little nooks to explore.
THE LANDSCAPE IS SPECTACTULAR

We headed back to our resort to spend a bit of time in the sun before heading out to dinner. We love our seafood and had heard about Tumunu Restaurant’s seafood platter. Booked and ready to roll. Tumunu is quite a quirky looking place, super friendly staff and the cat Julia is the bar manager she just hangs and keeps an eye on everything.

Seafood platter was delicious, all fresh and nothing deep fried so I didn’t feel so bad ordering the coconut pancakes for desert. We rolled home drank some more wine and called it a night.

TRAVEL TIP BOOK THE SAFARI TOUR AND
DELIC
VISIT THE AVATIU VALLEY
Mike and I aren’t real big on tours but we could tell that Rarotonga had some history and backroads that we wanted to check out so after a bit of research we booked ourselves on a Safari Tour. Our guide was a gem, he took us through the mountains and lush rainforest, took us to the Avatiu Valley which you can only visit while on this tour and had the most spectacular view, told us quite a bit of history and events that took place in Rarotonga, with stops on the way picking fresh fruit. It was a great way to see the inland. He took us as close as possible to a huge rock called ‘The Needle’. Mike and I were booked to do a cross island hike which included a walk to the Needle but with our chest infections had to pull out, Mike was disappointed, me not so much but we will be back.

WE LOVED LEARNING ABOUT THE RICH HISTORY OF RAROTONGA
Four hours later we are back at our resort and getting ready to hit the Muri night markets which was full of local food. This little piggy was in heaven. We had to walk around 3 times before we or should I say I could decide on what to eat. I went for a seafood coconut curry; OMG it was heaven and Mike got some beef ribs, I had to taste the ribs and the meat just fell off the bone. Then it was desert, I had no room left but it had to be done. Banana cream pie get in my belly. Cost of both meals and desert was a mere $41NZD. We’ll be back.

BEAUTIFUL BUILDINGS AND CAFÉ’S TO EXPLORE ON THE ISLAND.

TIME FOR SOME LUNCH: Now it’s time for some lunch. A local suggested we try Bite Time Café which is in town where the Saturday markets are held for some of the freshest fish on the island. She was right the fish and chips were delicious. Mainly open for lunch and on Friday Nights for dinner. Meals only $13NZD. Tummy’s full time to head back to our resort for a bit of a rest so we can venture out for dinner. You have probably noticed we are not shy on the tooth, we love our food. Yes, we hit the Muri Night Markets again, this time I had the ribs. Today it’s time to check out the local shops and businesses and do some shopping. In town, you will find some great shops but you will also find some amazing businesses around the island. As you drive around you will see signs out the front of people’s homes that say welcome with opening times. You must stop and go in. This is where I bought some beautiful skincare that’s made on the island, we bought a liqueur infused with banana wine and vodka from the banana doctor, and coco candy on the side of the street. A full list of where to shop and what we bought at the end of this story. GET THE LOOK Isabel Marant Overalls from www.theoutnet.com on sale were $820 now $129. TIME
The next couple of days were a bit overcast and our chest infection was painful, we still managed to drag ourselves out of bed and took the car for a spin. The blue lagoon of Muri Beach is a must it’s situated on the southeast corner and the water is so clear and flat making it perfect for a kayak or paddle. Snorkelling is pretty good too with lots of pretty fish.
I nearly forgot, in the middle of our shopping we got hungry, surprise surprise. On our first day Mike spotted a cute café on the side of the road called Charlie’s we stopped here for their famous fish burger. We ordered 2 burgers, fries and a drink each it cost $40NZ. When they brought the first sandwich out, I thought it was a sandwich for 2 it was that big then they walked out with a second and even this piggy thought it was a joke. Not kidding the sandwich was about 20cm x 20cm, had a whole fish on it and a whole loaf of bread was used per sandwich. First time that I have left food on my plate and the guy behind the counter who I’m assuming is Charlie couldn’t stop laughing. Charlies is a must. Our chest infections are not getting better so the next couple of days were spent by the beach, we tried to do a bit of snorkelling but a bit hard when your head feels like it’s going to explode. We stayed at The Sanctuary, what I loved about the resort was the beach it was on. It has amazing snorkelling; the water is stunning. Rarotonga is a very special place, we loved it. The landscape is spectacular. We are a bit sad we couldn’t do everything we wanted to and couldn’t explore what the island had to offer of an evening. We have decided that we will go back within the next 12 months. I think this time we will visit Rarotonga again and include Aitutaki for a couple of days.

THE PERFECT DRESS FOR TRAVELLING
WHERE WE STAYED
We stayed at the Sanctuary Rarotonga. Would I stay there again? No. The location fantastic, the beach beautiful and we loved the rooms; layout and interior spot on. It is an adult only which we liked, especially now that we are empty nesters. What we didn’t like was that there was no atmosphere. The only bar was at the reception area or you could go to their sister resort next door which is a family resort. We like having a drink at sunset by the water before we go out for dinner but the only way to do that was on the veranda in your room. If you wanted any real help you had to go to the reception in the resort next door. We didn’t find most of the staff friendly or helpful. They say they have a bar pool, never saw it open with any staff. Two of the days I had to request a room clean and ask for more amenities like soap. On one day when we were going to go on a cruise but just not well enough to go, I asked reception if they could advise the tour company and was told no. Wow, they didn’t even give us a number. Sorry Sanctuary, but I must be honest, you are visually a beautiful place but it’s the little things that can make the difference. Luckily for us we are not ones to hang out at the resort all day, we like to out and about. I will say that they did have the best equipment I have ever seen at any resort; the stand-up paddle boards, kayaks and snorkelling gear in perfect condition and topnotch quality.
