SCHWANGER BROTHERS & CO., INC.
Since 1936 the folks at Schwanger Bros. have been known for their heating oil delivery and oil burner repair service in and around the Lancaster area. Along with delivery of heating oil, they also offer other fuels such as diesel fuel for both on and off highway use, gasoline and now ethanol-free gasoline. All of these products can be delivered to your home, farm or business including mobile work sites with delivery sizes ranging from small delivery all the way up to large commercial transport sizes.
Propane is also offered for home and business. We offer competitive pricing for propane, and if you don’t have your own tank, Schwanger Bros. may be able to loan you a tank with the option to buy it in the future. We don’t charge extra fees or delivery charges, and in most cases setting up auto delivery will waive the propane leak check fee.
In addition to providing quality fuels, Schwanger Bros. also has a full service and installation department of staff to handle all of your residential and light commercial heating, air conditioning and plumbing needs. We service all major brands of oil, propane, natural gas, heat pump and air conditioning systems. We are fully insured and have licensed technicians on staff, including plumbers who can handle small faucet drips, water heater repair and replacement and water conditioning.
We are proud to be Lancaster’s Number-One Heating Oil Provider. Various services include automatic delivery, where computerized systems know when you need oil and it is delivered before you need it, and will call, which is same-day service. We also have an emergency service, which provides oil 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Budget plans, which allow you to evenly spread your heating costs throughout the year, are also available.

Noted for its penchant for hosting weddings, the Eicher Arts Center is showcased by a grand hall that can accommodate up to 110 people. Sparrow Family Medicine
Sparrow Family Medicine is a direct primary care practice that opened their Akron-based office in December of 2022. Originally founded in October of the same year, Sparrow Family Medicine is a membership-based practice, rather than insurancebased. Benefits of a membership-based practice include: Visits customized to your needs, afterhours access to your physician, transparent pricing and additional savings on lab work, medication and imaging.
Owner/founder Candice Cavicchia Miller (MD) is a graduate of Messiah College and Jefferson Medical College. Her experience in the field of medicine includes time at a local family practice and Lancaster General Hospital. Dr. Cavicchia Miller states that a membership-based practice like Sparrow Family Medicine offers more individualized care, and it is often more affordable for patients, especially for those with high deductibles or healthcare sharing plans, but the benefits of a membership-based practice are for all patients, regardless of insurance.
Patients commonly have many frustrations with the current medical system, including: Rushed visits, long waits to get appointments, even longer waits in the waiting room to see the physician, and being unable to access your physician after hours with questions and urgent concerns. It is because of these reasons, Cavicchia decided to open her business. She wanted to care for patients without the limitations of insurance-based practices. Patients are still able to use their insurance for any care needed outside of Sparrow Family Medicine.
Dr. Cavicchia Miller states: “When I or my family members are sick, I want to know that someone cares for my family like I do. Everyone deserves to have that someone, and that’s why I created Sparrow. I value the old school patient to physician relationship that is now so challenging to provide in an insurance-based practice. We want to be here for you.” The cost for membership at Sparrow Family Practice varies according to age. Sparrow Family Practice is located at 240 North 7th Street, Suite 500, Akron, Pa. 17501. They can be reached at 717-478-3850 or at www.sparrowfamilymedicine.com. Their hours are Mon. through Fri. 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. by appointment only.
South Mountain Ymca Camps
YMCA Camp Conrad Weiser first opened its doors in 1948. For 75 years their staff and volunteers have worked to connect kids in the outdoors while offering exciting programs that teach values like caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Providing outdoor experiences for children and families has become more critical as they seek to provide a space where people can explore nature and build meaningful relationships away from screens.
The South Mountain YMCA Camps, Bynden Wood Day Camp and Camp Conrad Weiser are summer camp destinations for young people, offering traditional camp programs, literary theme camps, horseback riding experiences, as well as leadership and adventure camps. In addition, families and school groups visit the mountain for family camps and outdoor-environmental education programs year-round.
“We offer a huge selection of outdoor camp activities, and we work with campers and counselors from around the world,” says Cory Evans, Senior Program Director. “It’s a special place with 12 to 15 countries represented each summer. It’s the United Nations of camping,” he continued with a smile. In addition to in-bound international travel programs, Camp Conrad Weiser also offers out-bound programs in which a group of local students travel abroad to take part in summer camp programs with YMCAs in Germany and Spain.
One camper parent shared her experience with the South Mountain YMCA Camps in this way: It’s the best camp in the area for so many reasons: traditions decades old, activities for every age, off-season programming for all ages, a beautiful setting, safe, educational, and fun - everything you could want in a summer camp!
The South Mountain YMCA Camps takes pride to make sure everyone feels welcome, is supported in finding their voice, and has the environment to learn new skills and build meaningful relationships

At a time when most banks are re-evaluating and closing their brick-and-mortar branch offices, Bank of Bird-in-Hand has “added to the flock,” with the opening of branches in Manheim and Schaefferstown in 2022.
Since its beginning in 2013 with just 10 employees and one branch, Bank of Bird-in-Hand now has over 140 employees, six branches, and a fleet of Mobile Branches - fully equipped RVs offering everything you’d find in any bank building. These “Gelt Buses,” named for the word “money” in Pennsylvania Dutch, allow Bank of Bird-in-Hand to bring services to those who traditionally have been underserved by the banking industry, including Lancaster County’s Plain Community. They also continue to provide services, such as telephone banking and courier services, that have gone by the wayside at other banks.
Also in those ten years, its initial $17 million in starting capital has grown to over $1 billion in total assets.
In October 2022, Bank of Bird-in-Hand opened its Manheim branch, located at 118 Doe Run Road. Just a few weeks later in November 2022, the Bank’s Schaefferstown Branch opened its doors at 2483 Stiegel Pike, in the shopping center anchored by Dutch-Way Farm Market and Good’s Store. “Community pride and strong work ethic are at the heart of what makes the towns of Manheim and Schaefferstown special places to live and work, and they align with the values of Bank of Bird-in-Hand,” shares Kevin J. McClarigan, CPA, Chairman of the Board for Bank of Bird-in-Hand. “Entering these two communities now expands the reach of the Bank into Lebanon County and strengthens its presence in Northern Lancaster County. It is a testament to the entire staff, Board of Directors and shareholders, and their commitment to delivering a quality banking experience focused on building relationships.”
You can also catch the Bank of Bird-in-Hand Mobile Branches on the road and stationed at Nolt’s Greenhouse Supply (Ephrata) on Mondays, Root’s Market (Manheim) on Tuesdays, and Meadowcreek BBQ Supply (New Holland) on Thursdays.
For a full list of branch locations and the Mobile Branch schedule, visit www.bihbank.com
