SHOSHANA YARDLEY PORTFOLIO
WELCOME Hey, I am Shoshana! I’m 50% creative, 40% hard-working, and 10% coffee. I’m currently studying Interior Design at Dunwoody College of Technology. Design is my passion and through my degree, I hope to help people attain functional, beautiful, and sustainable residential and commercial spaces. In addition to design, I am passionate about the environment and how we impact the world around us. In my free time, I like to be outdoors in my backyard garden, travel somewhere new, educate my community about composting and recycling, and to give forgotten items a new life in my online second-hand clothing shop. I’m excited to combine my passions for sustainability, repurposing, and creativity into my design work and to create spaces that help improve experiences in our built environment and the footprint we leave behind.

PROJECT 01 RESIDENTIAL STUDIO II SOPHOMORE YR. I SPRING I 2018 Resident Apartment Project The design for a new three-story senior living community is currently underway in Rochester, Minnesota, and will offer a variety of independent living, assisted living, memory care and transitional care options for seniors. Residents will be drawn to the community’s abundant amenities, including: heated underground parking, several formal and casual dining options, health and wellness center, activity and large meeting spaces, outdoor patios, walking paths and gardens. For this project, you will work independently and in groups to design an accessible independent living resident apartment. You will complete research about the surrounding community, market, senior living trends and resident preference to determine what’s “next” in senior care. Project Objective: The project focuses on applying the design process to create a 1,750 square foot accessible two-bedroom independent living resident apartment located on the first floor. Team members involved: Wendy Barnum, Shoshana Yardley

Project Concept: Alydia (60) & Olive (63) grew up in rural Midwest finding their professional career in Rochester, MN. There they continued their interest in the outdoors, wildlife, floral gardening, traveling, and healthy lifestyle very active in extended family socializing. A large kitchen that accommodates their whole foods approach to cooking and entertaining. The kitchen and adjoining rooms encourage their healthy lifestyle, community involvement, and provides the ability and enough space for their “soup kitchen mentality. The intent of this design is to cultivate function through order. As you enter the space, the resident and visitor will experience a cultivated order of groupings laid out in predictable plan, encouraging consistency through rote movement of daily routines. Groupings incorporating optimal adjacencies; pause moments, wayfinding through ceiling heights, and visual demarcations of the spaces.

I SPRING I 2018 Senior Living Public Space Project: The design for a new three-story senior living community is currently underway in Rochester, Minnesota, and will offer a variety of independent living, assisted living, memory care and transitional care options for seniors. Residents will be drawn to the community’s abundant amenities, including: heated underground parking, several formal and casual dining options, health and wellness center, activity and large meeting spaces, outdoor patios, walking paths and gardens. For this project, you will work independently and in groups to design a portion of the public spaces in this senior living community. You will complete research about the surrounding community, market, senior living trends and resident preference to determine what’s “next” in senior care. Project Objective: The project focuses on applying the design process to create approximately 8,000 square feet of public/amenity spaces in a senior living community located on the first floor. Program areas; Lobby, Bistro, Dining, Club Lounge, Bonus Space, and a Fitness Center. Team members involved: Katie Reed, Holly Teipel, Shoshana Yardley

Project Concept: Urban divide takes inspiration from a night skyline and linear forms of city architecture that are highlighted by color and light. These elements will be infused into space with definitive organization/ wayfinding. Contemporary geometry and reflective materials on a smaller scale will create interest and eye-catching spaces. Urban divide uses juxtaposition to create a luxurious atmosphere combining city hotel with permanent living. Project drives: - Wayfinding through strong organization and color - Multifunctional spaces that are conducive to aging in place, older adults, and guests - The linear forms will highlight an active lifestyle for residents in the community - embody the personality of the surrounding community

Project Concept: Burt’s Bees is an “Earth Friendly, Natural Personal Care Company.” Burt’s Bees has a focus on sustainability, natural ingredients, and the well being of the world around us. The hexagonal geometry inspired from a bee’s honeycomb is featured as a continuous structural element from the material on the floor and continues up the wall and to ceiling creating a hive-like experience. Natural materials and colors such as; honey-gold light boxes, wood, bamboo, glass, plants, and a pop of red were selected to match Bert’s Bees branding, earth-friendly sustainable mission, and upbeat environment. The layering depth in materiality and desk design was incorporated from my 3D Ideation skeletal cube. The interlocking layers paired well with the design concept and created a highlighted area for the accessible reception desk.

Project Concept: “An interior is the natural projection of the soul - COCO CHANEL
Skills: Material Selection Photoshop Rendering InDesign Layout
This bathroom highlights the playful and colorful lifestyle of its owner with its variety of materials, textures, and colors. The bathroom was designed and inspired by the floral wallcovering, Ivory Seychelles from Schumacher. A variety of pinks and cool greys were selected to create a cohesive and balanced design. The faint grey wood paneling and white floor give the other (louder) finishes in the space to breathe without being too overwhelming and cluttered in the small bathroom. Another fun touch is the pink glass mosaic backsplash in the shower that ties nicely with the pink in the wallcovering and is a unique space on it own. To top it off an antique round mirror hangs above the marble vanity and the aged brass hardware on the plumbing fixtures.
