With ‘We the People’ I express my desire to present an imagined population where no one is prejudged and there is no exclusivity. We the People’ promotes the principle of diversity where all are on equal footing, no one is marginalized and social acceptance without judgement based upon appearance is the norm. It asks: “Can you respect me by accepting my personal preferences with an open mind?” These portraits emerge gradually during the almost meditative 5 to 6 hours I need to produce one. During the process, imperceptible subtleties can produce major variations and a face that seems to start as one person can progressively transition into another. The emissaries pictured are ordinary citizens from anywhere and everywhere in search of equal opportunity to live their lives. New York United States of America
