According to Joan, in the process of making my art, abstraction and reality play an important role. When I add those two, the simplicity of each element can create a huge impact. Since I have been pursuing my dream of becoming an artist and seeing my progress, it has made me realize, that the value behind everything, it’s the effort that you put into it. I work photography mixed up with abstract spaces and that way, place the viewers in a scenario where their imagination can run freely. Joan Lukowiecky

“My intention is not just to send one message, but instead to open the viewer’s mind, and make them find their own message. ShowArt Magazine

“I cannot recall a specific moment in my life that influenced me the most. Several moments, and experiences throughout my life have helped me grow, directing me in a positive way to develop my art. My academic background has guided me to elaborate my artistic career professionally. Big cities, big crowds, diversity of colors, open spaces have always inspired me. Materials such as acrylic paints, sculpturing mud, plaster casts, cameras, and others had sensitized me to create. Love and care from my loved ones and friends motivate me every day to give the best out of me.

“ “I was born and raised in San Jose, Costa Rica, but I now live in Miami. As a little girl I was always in school and spending time with my family and friends. As I was growing up I developed an interest in all type of art expression; which made me sign up for sculpting, painting, and other art courses. Before graduating from photography in the US, I had a bachelor’s degree in architecture. While working in the architectural field, I discovered photography when taking pictures of my projects, and was captivated by the infinite ways to edit an image in post-production. I used to spend my time working with my camera, in front of a computer editing, designing, and/or doing all type of postproduction. In my free time I love to go to the beach, take a walk, spend time with my loved ones, and rest to wake up every day with fresh and different ideas to create.” According to Joan, “The power of postproduction with the use of a few computer programs showed me that photography could be amazing when it’s retouched or mixed up with digital elements. One of the things that will always amaze me and challenge me the most is the light. It is the most important element in my art and I still have to learn more about it. The simplicity of the elements on each image expresses a lot, and the perfect balance of elements tells me when each art piece is done.”

“With abstraction, I have found new ways to work digital photography, taking me away from conventionalism, a useful method to reflect about the image, and in that way I am able to project my own style. I find the abstract in reality. I see a common object from different perspectives. Unusual lighting offers me amazing and visually effective results. I intend to project subjectivity through my art, which is not always a loyal reflection of a truthful event. I often develop a concept, break it down, and then I create a collection. Each collection has an edition number; I normally work limited editions of 7. Each art piece takes time, design, balance composition, color, and lighting, therefore each work is different from the other. With Joan’s newest works, she is experimenting under the abstraction and reality concepts. “I chose different body parts to work an interesting collection called “Body”.” Here are some pieces from Jaon’s new collection.
