Art Iconic: in a sense, the entire scene is legible because it is iconic Symbolic: —or is it taken to be iconic? In an obvious sense: the castle is symbolic of romantic history, vacations, etc. The dog is symbolic of bourgeois entertainment... but the entire scene could also be argued to be symbolic: comprehensible because it has conventional meaning. Indexical: The entire scene could also be taken as indexical, since photos created it.

The site chosen for the museum locates on Chen's hometown, where he started his life. What made his honorable life of magnificent achievements? Looking through his chronology upside, we find out there are some great choices, which made him success. Also, it is behind these choices that Chen's own character deeply hid. Thus, as it is not a common museum of only exhibitions, the route of visitors in the museum is just like Chen's road of life, which leads visitors into Chen's magnificent life as their own experience when they walk through different sections of his life in the museum. After the visit, people will realize of what great justice, wisdom and bravery did Chen make these choices.

ROLE EXCHANGE: Visitors become active, by standing in Chen's view, to experience in his prosperity and adversity when they walk through the cross of life.

circulation

1. Take the initiative to feel: Standing on the cross of life, how brave and determined Chen should be to make the choice. Visitor will also think about his own life of the same dilemma when facing it. 2. Take the initiative to feel: The resistance and rejection as well as the glory and success Chen experienced in various sections of his life in different areas. 3. Exhibition area according to the time sequence: When finishing the route which symbolizes Chen's road, visitors feel like they have just experienced Chen's life on their own way. So they are affected by the one-character-choice-life externalization of spirit.

It is the wonder place for the sightseeing of the whole site, and is also the best place to enjoy the commercial zone. Of the most smart is that it combines the podium of the apartment with the main commercial part so as to be inclosed.

In full consideration of sunlight influence from residential buildings, offices and the apartments to form a continuous change, the buildings keep with the green axis' consistent tendency and direction opened to the waterfront, and at the same time between the green landscape there are visual corridors.

There are three independent towers in the central for the maximum landscape as well as facilities in advance, which stand directly in front of kempinski for correspondence.

The buildings enjoy the benifit of the greenland as a great park. The greenland to the south of each building is near 80m, which provides landscape, lesure, sports court and privacy place for the towers as they are remarkable gardens of these high-rised villas. It differs from other residentials around.

It is the No.3 building on the map on the left page.

It has three floors above the ground and one basement.

It stands in the west campus of Shandong University (former Shandong Medical University). It is once the possession of the Qilu Christian College found by Germans and of course one of the most acient buildings in this campus (built in 1919).

It has a obvious north-south axis and its two parts of east and west are symmetrical. It is made of stones, bricks and woods: the base is of stones, the walls are of bricks, and the roof, stairs and the floor layers are of woods. It has a passage in the center from east to west and both side of it are rooms.

It is now the hall of College of Parmacy.

㿏㰳ă&#x;›ä ˛ăż” Notation and Language 1 - a shift from considering parts to regarding the whole: cybernetics maintains that the whole is more than the sum of its parts.

2 - a shift from objects to relationships: cybernetics is thinking in terms of relationships, not isolated things;

Patterns are configurations of relationships that appear again and again.

Hieroglyphic Writing The hieroglyphic scripts are of a pictorial nature and the oldest written form of the ancient Egyptian language. Hieroglyphs represented consonants, or groups of consonants. Hieroglyphics can be used in two ways. As a direct representation, where the symbol means just what it shows. More often symbols were used phonetically, meaning it did not stand for itself, but for its name Some hieroglyphic symbols had more than one meaning, and each symbol had a distinct sound associated with it.

5 - a shift from quantitative to qualitative. Cybernetics focuses on the essential identifying nature of patterns rather than numbers of isolated items in a pattern; 6 – a shift from linear arrangements to feedback loops: feedback involves information about actions that make a difference. In cybernetics, feedback is a process whereby some feature of the output signal of a system returns to the system and changes its behavior, -- a difference that makes a difference. Continuous feedback in a system is called a feedback loop. When what is fed back changes the system’s behavior by adjusting it to the output, we call the feedback “negative. When the feedback intensifies, rather than changes, the original behavior of the system, creating a run-away system, we call it “positive feedback. Feedback is observed or used in various areas dealing with complex systems, such as engineering, economics, biology, and ecology; 7 - a shift from thinking about isolated objects to contextual thinking: When you study relationships between a sub-system and a larger system to which it relates, you are thinking about context.

Architecture Traces of Geometry. Index ------ Narrative of Process coded representational system

Index ------------------------ Index? evidential authority is lost ) example:photograph vs. digital scan

( immediacy,

Peter Eisenman : Houses of Cards Eisenman’s houses are indices of the cognitive process of forming architecture,a process which is worked out on paper. formal operations are not based on straightforward accommodations of program, site, or budget, but “arise from a geometrical logic, which is itself apparent due to the fact that it is marked or signaled.” The challenge for the designer of an indexical project is to mark the building with traces of its generative process.
