PEDESTRIAN-ORIENTED STREET ENHANCEMENT STUDY MOSHER LANE | COLLEGE STATION

Street Location, Profile, and Built Form.

Objectives for the Mosher Lane Redesign Project:

-Improved organization of dedicated service parking to reduce the current chaotic traffic, and the conflict with pedestrians and bikers moving between the Student Housing and the new Commons buildings. -Reduced 30 minute car parking to make the street more pedestrian-friendly. -Addition of softscape, tree canopy, and hammocks if feasible. Trees do not have to formally line the sidewalk, but consistently spaced. -Relocation of the trash container away from the sidewalk and direct view.

-Improve overall campus imageability per the new Campus Masterplan. To support campus cohesion through material choices, for eg. using Paving related with the Southside Character Zone.

Concept Proposals for the Mosher Lane Redesign/Streescaping: Scenario 1: Crosswalks -Current Service Street character stays, but with enhanced walkability and organized pedestrian manoeuvres. -Addition of canopy trees and softscapes. -Minor relocation of existing street furniture / amenities. Scenario 2: Limited Access Zone -limited car and service vehicular access. Removal of the 30-minute parking. -Seperation between service-heavy and pedestrian-heavy sections of the street by use of change in Paving. -Addition of canopy trees and softscapes. -Relocation/Addition of existing street furniture / amenities in the limited access section to create pedestrian-dominant environment.
