The Lions This is the premier hike in Vancouver’s North Shore mountains. The top of the West Lion is only attainable via a steep scramble, so try not to kill yourself if you attempt it. The Lions are on the Howe Sound Crest Trail, which extends from Cypress Bowl north to near Porteau Cove.

Alpine Hikes Around Vancouver

Mount Price Overlooking amazing Garibaldi Lake, Mount Price is one of the less popular but most rewarding hikes in the Black Tusk area of Garibaldi Provincial Park. The hike takes you south of the campground by the lake, through subalpine forest and up the rocky slopes of the inactive volcano. Views of the region’s unbelievable glacio-volcanic landscapes reward you on top.

Bear Mountain This hike near Harrison Hot Springs follows a tedious logging road to a spectacular lookout with colourful wildflowers and views of the Cheam Range across the Fraser Valley. Along the route, we came across a waterfall with a mysterious coffin in the pool below it.

Diamond Head Many hikers are familiar with the cabin at Elfin Lakes in Garibaldi Provincial Park. Diamond Head is one of the satisfying hiking options one has in the area. From the lakes, hikers ascend the Saddle between Columnar Peak and the Gargoyles before descending to climb the loose slopes of the rocky shoulder south of impressive Atwell Peak.

Lynn Valley The easy Headwaters Trail takes you up Lynn Valley to Norvan Falls. From there, one may continue up to Coliseum Mountain and Mount Burwell. It’s a strenous hike, but well worth it. Another option is to head up the Hanes Valley over to Grouse Mountain. Every year, several hikers get lost in this area.
