World toilet day focusses on improving sanitation and hygiene in the countries that need it most, where billions of people die as a direct result of not having a proper toilet. This is the home page of my website, I wanted to make it drastically different from what WTD have already (see ‘Existing Website design board) as this website doesn’t really communicate the purpose or severity of the situation. I am proposing an interactive home page in which the users cursor cleans the dirty image into something more similar to fig 3. This references how the user can personally help the situation and gives a quick idea of what the day is all about.
Site Pages I have tried to keep the pages of the website very simple to clearly communicate the the audience. I have decided to use a monochromatic colour scheme to set a consistent tone throughout, this also allows the social media icons to stand out, which is needed most at the moment- awareness of the situation.
Development
Exsisting Website
One of the biggest problems I have faced when dealing with any communciation about World Toilet Day is that the name ‘World Toilet Day’ sounds like a joke day with no real meaning behind it. This is the existing website for World Toilet Org and more specifically the World Toilet Day site. I don’t think that it is very engaging or that it directs the user to do anything specific, it just tells you some facts and points you toward various, vague ways of helping. I have tried to take a different route for my re-design that clearly delivers information, engages the user and directs them in the way that is intended.
