BACKGROUND
BRIEF
A gig poster is a great vehicle for experimental and interactive communication. The aesthetics must communicate the style of the music and appeal to the intended audience.
To create a set of 3 screen printed posters that are promoting upcoming gigs in Leeds. The posters should work as a set whilst retaining visual impact individually.

BRIEF
01
RESEARCH Through looking at existing gig posters and illustration I was able to define what I thought was successful and what wasn’t. I personally like the simpler posters that make use of only one or two colours and simple but bold imagery. I also think it is better when there are subtle hand drawn qualities to the work, if it is too vevtorised it looks too digital and cold which doesn’t compliment

the natural experience of seeing a band live. As I am producing a set of 3 posters I will consider colour to tie them together as a set but also give them their own recognisable personalities.

DEVELOPMENT Each poster began with design sheets with sketches related to the themes of a song of the bands. When I had selected the general imagery for the poster I would draw it out again and use ink and marker to define what areas would be colour, black or stock. I then used Photoshop to arrange the elements and prepare the file for screen printing by separating each layer.

For Cate le Bon @ Brudenell Social Club, this poster was influenced by the lyrics of ‘Ploughing Out’ and given quirkier imagery to suit the style of the band.
