Process of the creation of my digi pak and magazine advert
Magazine I first started with an image of Michael’s eye and cropped it so that it was A4. I then I started to decide where the writing would go, so that I had an idea. I also started playing around with the colours of the text as I wanted to keep some of the original features from the original advert / CD cover it in. Therefore I decided to use the colours green and black as they are the original colours. I then started editing the eye so that the focus of the advert would be the pupil of the eye. I did this by using the iris blur effect, this blurred everything around the eye but not the actual eye.
Magazine I then decided that it looked to plain and bland. Therefore I decided to add something that went with the lyrics. I choose to use a flame as the eye. I added the eye as a layer and then moved it around so that it covered the eye, however it was too dark and you couldn’t see the shape of the eye so I changed the opacity. I then used the eraser tool so that the flame was the actual shape of the eye and didn’t have an access over the eye lid. However, I didn’t think there was enough emphasis on the eye so I decided to add another layer of the flame. This made the flame stand out more and it made the eye look much better. I then looked at the image and thought the eyebrow didn’t look very good, and I didn’t really like the green that much. Therefore I added another later of the original eye and changed the effects and then changed the writing.
Digi pak – CD Cover I started with the image of the eye and edited identically to the release poster. Again I started with the green and black writing but decided that again didn’t look good, so I changed it to black and red. I made sure that the eyebrow didn’t look to blurred either because it didn’t look very good when it was blurred out a lot. I choose quite a bold font so that it stood out and would catch peoples eye.
Digipak – CD Back This was quite straight forward to do. I again picked the colours green and black It was quite difficult to get all of the songs onto the back of the digipak as I wasn’t sure on where to place them. I picked to go in order vertical as this is what majority of digipaks do. I also added a barcode because shops would need something to scan it with to tell the price. I also added Ed Sheearn’s logo that it is recognisable to his consumers and customers. I changed the background because I thought the green was to bright so I used a duller green. I also wanted the text to match the CD Cover and the release poster so I changed the right hand side of the text to the red colour.
Digipak - CD I first decided that I would use the green as the colour of the CD because it matched the back. However, I then decided after I designed it that it did not look very professional and I did not like it. It had no representation to my cover or release poster what so ever so I decided to change it so that it looked better. Therefore I decided to use the flame again so that there is a representation of the release poster and CD cover. I also used the same colours for the writing because it stands out because it contrasts with the background. The audience can also relate to it.
Digipak - Insert I was not sure what to put on the digipak insert however I did some more research into what other pop artists had put on theirs. Most of them used photos of the artist or shots from the film. Therefore I decided to do both This allows the audience to make the links between the artist and the music video. It may also persuade those who have not watched the music video to watch it as they find the insert interesting. I picked the pictures that I think best represent the film, for example the flames are repeated throughout so they are a massive link to the video, they are also used on the release poster and the cover of the digipak again, this allows connections to be made.
