HEART SKIPS A BEAT – OLLLY MURS

ABOUT   This song was created for Olly Murs second album ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’   Released on 19th August 2011   Written by Alex Smith, Preston, Kish Mauve and Rizzle Kicks   Became number one within the first week of being out and sold over 110,000

copies   Filmed at Mile End Skate park in East London

MISE EN SCENE   Olly wears clothing that is fashionable of the time the music video was

created this is so that the audiences attention can be engaged. It also helps promotes Olly’s image as his audience will want to buy the clothing he wears.   Male artists don’t tend to wear makeup that is visible, however they do wear a

small amount to hide their imperfections as they want to look perfect so that they attract different audiences.   The location is a ran down area, I can tell this by the graffiti on skate park and

the tower building in the background in some of the clips.   The fact that Olly is wearing a hat is very significant as this is part of his image

in majority of his music video’s he is wearing a different type of hat. This can be shown in Olly Murs video to ‘Troublemaker’   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aQDOUbErNg   There are loads of props within this video from the record that Olly stands

on to the skipping ropes. These are used to create the idea of kids having fun and the memories of being a child.

CAMERAWORK   The camera shots are mainly mid—long shots these are used to

promote the image of Olly Murs.   Close ups are used to create a relationship between the singer and the artist. This allows the audience to connect to the lyrics of the song and understand them. This is also used with Will.i.am’s video to ‘This is love’   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9I9Ar6upx34   Establishing shots are used to set the scene and the image of the

location, for example in this video the tower of flats show that the area is slighting run down and bland.   The tilt of Olly singing on the record allows the attention to be brought on to him. This is as within the background there are many people in the background and by the time the tilt has finished it is just Olly in the center of the shot on his own.

EDITING   The editing within the video is very quick and goes with the beat of the music

and creates emphasis on it.   Also some shots are used throughout such as the first couple of shots of Olly

when he says ‘My heart skip, skips, skips a beat’ these shots are used again when he sings this again. Again this creates emphasis on Olly as it allows the shot to be memorable as it is repeated when the lyrics are.   Also the lip syncing is not out in any of the shots this is so the video looks

well made and professional.   Slow motion is used when the skateboarder is going up the ramp because it

highlights the trick he is doing and how it takes skill to be able to something like that.   There are not any transitions within the video the shots are changed quickly

and sometimes graphic matches are used such as when the dancer is spinning it changes into Olly spinning around.
