A place for Locals and Tourists A food market and cooking school. Academic project 10th semester, Spring 2018
Program: Cooking School & Food Market
Project partner: Sanna Movafagh
Location: Ribe, Jutland, Denmark.
Size: 1600m2
Teachers: Ufffe leth, Matthew Philips
In the west of Jutland, Denmark, lies the small town Ribe. Its history of being once the capital and tradecentre of Denmark, and being surrounded by wild nature and fields, attracts over a million tourists each year.
We suggest creating a place where locals and tourist meet as equals; introducing a cooking school and a food market. The project investigates how a building can connect with the surrounding architecture, without mimicing it. The town
centre consists primarily of buildings from 1700, and we sought to translate qualities in both scale and materials, and reintroduce these in the market and school, which are placed on a site between the old centre and the new area.

The office ‘Vandkunsten’ has drawn a new masterplan for the factory area, because it will move further out of the town, though it is unsure when this will happen.
The big factory seen here, will probably be torn down, and a new area will arise. The surrounding buildings (dark) are fromafter 1900 while the old city centre is from around 1700
og en ny lokalplan er under udarbejdelse. Ribe Jernstøberi nedrives på et ukendt tidspunkt.

Sanna Movafagh - Sidsel Petersen ISOMETRIC VIEW OF APARTMENTS IN BALLERUP The original facade from before the renovation in 1980.
Ballerup Facade Studies Henning Larsen Research Internship. Academic project 7th semester, Fall 2017
Program: Facade Element
Location: suburb to Copenhagen, Ballerup
Size: One type.
In cooperation with Henning Larsen Architects and their Ph.D student Pelle Munch-Petersen, we researched and developed a new facade element for a part of the ‘Ballerupplan’; a prefabricated concrete residential area from 1964, badly remodeled in the 1980s. This was also a design
for disassembly and sustainability course. The new facades refer to the original ones from 1964, and the rational theories about pre fabricated elements and standard measurements, where the simpleness become the

ornaments. The result is a facade element where the parts most likely to wear out first, are easy to replace, and the simpleness of the facade makes it possible to only removoe a small part of the PVC affected facade. Teachers: Pelle Munch-Petersen and Uffe Leth.

This isometric view shows how the outer parts of the element are easy to remove and replace if needed (instead of using a toxic plastic material as surface). The idea is that the used wood can be toosed anywhere, since it hasn’t been impregnated, and the steel parts are usable many years to come.

The farm is a test-plant for a production of Seaweed, a less known but very sustainable kind of food. The farm needs to be fitted into the existing architectural heritage; a mix of farms and industry, and also
meet the increasing interest in gourmet foods on the island. We suggest a building of a familiar farm size, mixing old traditions with modern industry. The loadbearing construction is send hand
steel frames, while the building is clad in locally sourced wood. The farm should also be an example of a project where finance, environemnt and aestetics are equal design parameters.

CONCRETE FOUNDATION
UNTREATED DOUGLAS WOOD
The production building and the restaurant rest on a concrete foundation that equalizes the slope. In the restaurant building the concrete is mixed with local granite, and polished for a terazzo look. It creates a refined look next to the simple materials. The loading dock is cast in concrete as well, on existing rocks.
Facade and roof is both clad in douglas wood, which is sourced locally. This type of wood can easily take rain and moist, once it has been dired. It becomes grey over time, and melts in with the landscape. The material is inspired by an old tradition of wooden roofs in the dry Baltic sea area - wood shingles on bornholm, and plank roofs on Gotland.
ELEPHANT RACK
UPCYCLED STEEL FRAMES
Where the cliffs meet the farm, the heave concrete foundation becomes a light elephant rack instead, where the rocks and cliffs are visible below. The rack is resting on existing rocks, and in the drying building it is mounted on a grid of steel pillars. That way when the sea weed dires, water easily drips off on to the ground.
Standardized frames can be bought second hand online, and are a simple and cheap construction method for farm buildings. For the sea weed farm the frames are treated differently depending on the function of the building. The frames are given a fire proof red coat of paint.

The Garden Residents
A residential project of small detatched buildings. Academic project, 4th semester, Spring 2014
Program: Residential
Location: Lyngby
Size: 5600m2 (each house 110m2)
A residential project placed in Lyngby, only 15 minutes from Copenhagen by train. The area today, is a large green lawn, mostly used by the dog owners in the area. Lyngby is an attractive area for families, who wants to be close to Copenhagen but in need of more outdoo space.
The suggested project here, are seperate houses tightly connected to the outdoors as the primary focus; being surrounded by gardens as well as the souther facade is primarily made from glass, resembling a green house, and a source of heat. The southern facade can be
opened up completely on the ground floor, letting the private garden inside. Also the glass facade is tilting, creating a feeling of the outside coming in from above. Vejledere: Rikke Møller Andersen, Kent Pedersen.

Location: Seattle
Size: 40 acres
A new headquarter and campus for Expedia inc., meeting the needs of the employees, as well as the office ground becoming an extension of the active waterfront area of Seattle, with its own park, pier and a beach area.
The project is partly a reconfiguration of existnig building and addition of new ones. The main entrance goes through the ring courtyard, that has a pool in the middle, from which one can see the sea and the Rainier mountain.

The buildings are mostly open office space, knit together by internal bridges tying the open glass-building together. For this project I mostly contributed with diagram, models (physical and 3D) and other relevant tasks.
