Ed Jeram earned MS degrees in Chemistry and Management from RPI. His 45 year career includes 30 years at GE Silicones in Waterford and a Silicone Consultant for 15 years. Ed was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2016 and has been undergoing treatment at Albany Medical Center and Dana-Farber in Boston. “I came out of Albany Med in a wheelchair and went into Dana-Farber in a wheelchair. I then graduated to a walker, then a cane and today, I walk in and out of Dana-Farber on my own.” Best wishes for continued healing and health, Ed! Bob Jordan graduated from Albany Medical College in 1967. “I started my internship and residency but this was

interrupted when I went into the Army. I served in Vietnam for a year and worked as a surgeon in an evac hospital. After leaving Vietnam I returned and completed training in general surgery. I joined a group of general surgeons in Albany and remained in the practice for 35 years. During this time I remained in the Army reserve and ultimately commanded a medical brigade as a Brigadier General, and then was promoted to Major General (only one of three Major General reserve physicians in the country at that time ) at which time I worked in the Pentagon for four years. I stopped doing general surgery in 2010 but remained in wound care which I am doing to this day. I presently work part time at The Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine at Memorial

Hospital in Albany. I am also a Knight of Malta.” Paul Thorpe retired after practicing law for 50 years. He has been married to Barbara for 54 years, has 4 children and 10 grandchildren and could not be happier.

Jerry DeFrancisco gdefrancisco@siena.edu Don Brady, PhD, PsyD, NCSP, CAS is a recognized expert in the field of sports related concussions. He has been conversing on this topic of sport-related brain injuries for over 30 years, including articles and interviews. Don conducted pioneering research regarding active and retired NFL players’ lack of concussion knowledge — presenting his latest work at the Brain Injury Association of New York’s Annual Conference in Saratoga in June, relating his own experience with the subject as a result of a 1990 auto accident. Bill McGoldrick is the latest member of our class to join the Siena Board of Trustees (preceded by the likes of John Dawson and Bob Guido). His expertise and experience in the field of higher education has been a great asset to the board during these turbulent times. Bill was asked to join the new president transition team. We are sad to report the passing of Brian Farrell, our classmate and friend. We remember his “sparkling” personality, and his skills on the basketball court. I got to visit with Leslie and Mike Long, Sue LaVigne and Dick Callahan at the services. Please send me updates for

MINI-REUNION

Ken Dedrick ken.dedrick1030@gmail.com Several classmates commented they were glad we had our 50th Reunion last June before coronavirus struck. Kevin Carroll and Mary celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in February 2020. Dan Belsito and Maureen celebrated 50 years of marriage in February with a large gathering of friends and family in St. Thomas. Many of those in attendance were Siena graduates. Jack Cashill has a new book to be published in August “Unmasking Obama: The Fight to Tell the True Story of a Failed Presidency”. If you are not receiving emails from Siena, please email alumni@siena.edu with your mailing address and phone number. I had 15 bouncebacks from my email to the class. We’d like to stay in touch!

Paul Twardy twardy.paul.f@gmail.com A few days before what was to have been commencement weekend for the Class of 2020, I drove past Siena—and was startled. The campus looked strangely unoccupied and the main entrance was lined with traffic cones that directed would-be visitors to the security hut. Less than a month later we, the class of 1970, would not be there for our 50th reunion, now postponed until next year. Signs of the times. What unexpected synergy between these two classes that mutually experienced the interruption of Siena life milestones: the beginning of alumni life for them and the

highlight of a 50th reunion we’ve been marching toward for decades. Our link goes further: for all the uncertainty we live with now, we remain steadfast in our bond with Siena, and embrace the achievement of a fine college education in the context of centuries of Franciscan Tradition. Both will and have put us in good stead in the world, no matter what. We carry these assets and manifest them daily, all the more critical during this unfortunate pandemic. For all the world, let us pray for the blessing of St. Francis; St. Clare; and our college namesake, St. Bernardine of Siena. We congratulate the Class of 2020 and welcome them to a new and different kind of the Siena Experience. Let’s take this opportunity to anticipate all the more our reunion celebration next year. We should celebrate ourselves. And here’s another opportunity: let’s continue to speak among ourselves about the importance of being together in 2021. We have another year to reach out to everyone, especially

classmates with whom we have not spoken in too long as well as those we hold closer. Let’s make a concerted effort to encourage all our brothers to be present as we share the privilege of friendship, education, and the spirit of St. Francis. In the meantime, as the world heals, consider rereading St. Francis’ “Canticle of the Sun,” consider his prayer for peace; consider the homilies of Pope Francis, and remember the plea of Pope Paul VI in 1972, “If you want peace, work for justice.” We would have done as much in the late ’60s and 1970.

I’d like to direct my classmates to read Elvira AltimariJaegar’s message in the Class of ’83 notes. She has initiated an appeal for her class and a challenge to the Class of ’82. As most of you know Siena, like most schools, is dealing with the logistical and financial

burden of the Covid crisis. The COVID Emergency Health and Safety fund has been established to offset some of the expenses Elvira references. I am asking members of our class (and all classes) to make a contribution to this fund to help offset some of these expenses. Let's take advantage of the dollar for dollar match and insure that the Class of ’82 is victorious in this challenge, (and that she buys dinner). I hope that all of you are doing well during these difficult and now turbulent times and welcome to the Class of 2020!

1983

Elvira Altimari-Jaeger Eaj6@optonline.net I hope you are all connecting with your Siena friends via Zoom. I have a Happy Hour every Friday with my old roommates and Lakeshore building mates. I don’t really have any updates from classmates so I thought I would welcome the Siena Class of 2020 to the alumni family and make an appeal to my fellow classmates. As you all probably know, colleges like Siena are deeply affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Siena has had to make changes to ensure the safety and comfort of students and to comply with new guidelines regarding Covid. They have established a COVID Emergency Health and Safety Fund. The fund will provide cameras in instructional spaces, hand sanitizer stations and masks. This is a very unexpected and costly project. I would like to make an appeal to every one of my classmates: Consider making a gift to this fund to help our alma mater through this difficult time. Right now there is a dollar for dollar match opportunity for the first $50,000 raised by Sept 30th. But wait …there is more…I connected with Bobby “Buff” Young ’82 recently. We decided on an additional

challenge. I bet him dinner that the Class of ’83 would donate more to this fund than the Class of ’82. Don’t let me down ’83! I know you all feel a connection to Siena, in true Francian fashion — let’s give back little more during this difficult time.
