TAN LINE SEASON IS BACK Your Summer Spray Tan questions answered: pg. 4-5

A note from

We’ve made it to Summer, and this year we can all celebrate it being a restriction-free one. There’s plenty going on, starting with the bumper Platinum Jubilee bank holiday this month. Not only is it the best time to enjoy time off with family and friends, it’s the busiest period for beauty professionals with clients who have packed diaries full of barbecues and garden parties, staycations and last minute holiday bookings. Now is the time to ensure you’re fully stocked and ready for your regular clients and last minute bookings, increasing your marketing efforts on websites and social media to maximise the potential of the season for your business. Since its arrival in April, the response to our new retail Clear Self Tan Water Mousse collection has been amazing, with lots of you stocking it for clients to purchase post-treatment while many of you have given it a try yourselves and left us excellent reviews. It really does leave no development stain transfer onto clothes, bed sheet or towels, which is a real game-changer for at-home tanning.

I understand how important the summer months are to a beauty business… While making your clients feel confident and glam, why not take a little selfcare time and check out your local competition or a spa and see how you compare – what tips and improvements can you make to your business? Remember we are your helping hand to your success, if you need any support or guidance in maximising opportunities throughout the Summer, please call our experienced team on 0333 600 1200 today.

IN THE PRESS “Out of all of the tans I tried, this one definitely had the best scent, with notes of peach, pear and nectarine. It was so good that my flatmates even asked me what perfume I had used! ”

“Sienna X Retinol Serum provides a collagen-boosting luminosity fix for your clients’ complexion. It contains 0.3% pure retinol, which helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.”

“Thanks to these tanning drops, I’ve been able to go fresh-faced to brunches, birthdays and even bars with a subtle glowy base and no sign of a cakey finish. ”

PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT J U N E - J U LY

The Day Cream SPF30 We’re putting our holy-grail moisturiser in the spotlight this month to reiterate just how important it is to wear sun protection in the warmer months. Even on cloudy days, we can all benefit from wearing SPF – our Day Cream with SPF 30 offers protection against UVA rays which contribute to premature ageing. This 3-in-1 lightweight moisturiser also features pore-blurring technology to lift, brighten, and give skin a flawless finish, creating the perfect base for makeup or giving you the confidence to leave your skin bare. Non-pore blocking technology means your skin can breathe without perspiring, even when it’s super hot. Formulated with Marine Bamboo, regular use of The Day Cream can improve skin tone by up to 12% & skin firmness by up to 8% in 28 days. The fastabsorbing, anti-pollution formula helps to fight the damaging effects of blue light and Infra-Red Type A. It’s also packed with moisture-quenching Shea Butter, Avocado Oil, Olive Squalene and Vitamin E, and enriched with Bakuchiol (a natural alternative to retinol) to boost your skins elasticity, firmness, radiance and brightness.

YOUR

SUMMER SEASON QUESTIONS ANSWERED

We took five of our most asked questions and got the answers from our Customer Service Manager, Samantha Burns.

How can I stop clients from sweating? Unfortunately, if a client has started to sweat, you can’t stop the process - but there are things you can do to help. Take time to dry your client’s skin throughout the tan, especially under the arms - this is done by releasing the trigger, the air will still flow without spray. Use this cool air to spray the back of the neck and centre of tummy as these are the body’s own heat sources. The client will cool down within a few minutes. Another top tip is to use the Skin Guard 4-in-1 spray Spray lightly post tan on under arms, chest area and tops of inner legs to powder coat the skin for extra dryness with a cooling finish.

Should I be using the Sienna X Olive Tan Solution this Summer? Olive tan is ideal all year round for clients who have deeper skin tones, or prefer a brown/olive base colour as opposed to the usual Sienna X warm red/brown undertone base. Quite like when you are trialling your foundations for summer winter usage, spray tans can also be trialled for different times of the year. In the summer months when the sun is shining and lots of people have natural tans from jetting off or baring more skin, Olive Tan really does lend a holiday glow to already tanned skin.

Is Solution that has gone slightly green safe to use? Yes, the colour of the tan does not affect its safety, however if you’re unsure, pour out onto a piece of kitchen roll and ensure that the main bulk of colour is dark brown. If the outer circle is green that’s perfectly usual and the solution is ok to use, as DHA oxidises when it hits the air. Do keep in mind that it’s normal for the tan to appear slightly green around the cap where the DHA has oxidised too. If the inner circle is inky green or green then discard the product. The tan is ‘safe’ and usually works, but the greenness means the solution has got too hot or is old, and it’s best you do not use this on paying clients. Patch test on yourself and allow to develop for 8 hours before showering and washing off, then review the resulting colour. Remember to store solution in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight. If you have access to one, a fridge is ideal on particularly hot days, but not too cold. Just remember to remove it before your client arrives so it’s not too cold on their skin upon application. If you’re a mobile therapist on the go, our 250ml Solution range is perfect for enabling you to easily carry around the full range. Try to take out enough product for your appointments that day, while avoiding leaving larger litre bottles in a warm car.

TOP TIP: Wine or picnic bag coolers are perfect for mobile therapists to carry solution in cars for short periods of time.

What product will extend a clients spray tan? We suggest the new Gradual Clear Self Tan Water Mousse, the first gradual tanner of its kind. As a clear mousse, the product can be applied directly from a Mitt, drying quickly with no development stain transfer onto clothes, bedding or towels.

How do I spray tan a male client? Spraying as normal is fine as the air from the gun will move any hair out of the way. For male clients, due to hair line, forgo the hair cap. Lightly spritz over a bald head similarly to the hands/feet spray method. Ask the male client to gently bend his knees and look straight ahead. Then spray around his head like a halo. The solution will gently cascade on the skin. 5

B I K I N I WA X I N G 1 0 1 WITH GEMMA SMALLEY MIDLANDS REGION TRAINER

Bookings for bikini waxes reach an all-time high around about now, with summer holidays on the horizon meaning swimwear is out. For many clients, this Summer marks a return to travelling for a break, and, as a therapist, you can help ensure they’re at their most confident with this effective, profitable holiday-prep treatment. Read more on our professional blog at: https://sienna-x.co.uk/bikini-waxing-101

Gemma’s TOP TIP for performing a bikini wax My most important tip is to make your client feel comfortable and relaxed, explain how you are going to perform the wax and what they can expect. Act confidently and chat throughout the treatment to ensure they are distracted from the actual hair removal.

1

My absolute must have products for performing a fantastic bikini wax is Sienna X Pre and Post Soothing Oil – this product creates a barrier between the skin and the wax allowing a comfortable treatment (which is so important for intimate areas!) and can be used to soothe and moisturise the skin afterwards.

1

2

The Skin Guard 4-in-1 spray cools the skin before applying either hot or warm wax and in the mind of the client reduces pain, while also raising hairs that lie flat making them much easier to lift - especially great for first-time wax clients or on hot warm days. Alternatively, offer a cold flannel pretreatment on feet and areas to be waxed. Wax can behave differently on hot days and when applied onto warm skin, so try to keep rooms cool.

3

Using an oil and a hot wax is the only way to wax underneath and in the more intimate areas safely and effectively. I wouldn’t be without a hot wax for this treatment, and Sienna X Peppermint Crème Hot Wax is perfect as it’s rosin-free and suitable for even the most sensitive skin types. Using a hot wax gives you so much confidence as you know it’s much gentler on your clients skin and won’t pull like some warm waxes can. A hot wax shrink wraps around the actual hair rather than pulls the skin and can remove even the shortest of hairs.

ADVICE ON

TIK TOK & REELS FOR YOUR BUSINESS

REELS

1

It’s important to provide a face behind the brand, as people want the authenticity of seeing a real person – TikTok and Reels benefit hugely from displaying people and personalities.

2

Educational tips and tricks from you will be invaluable to your clients.

3 Expert advice from our Digital Marketing & Communications Executive

If being on camera doesn’t come naturally, try not speaking first and providing on-screen text to support the visuals instead.

6

To start generating video content, you can try offering half price treatments to clients who give their permission to be filmed for the purpose of featuring in your social media content.

Sophie Willmore Short form video content is also great for taking people behind the scenes of your business to break up your treatment showcases – popular content formats include a day in the life, or product unboxings of your new-in stock. Everyone likes to feel like they are getting to see something exclusive and ‘be nosy’, so the more you share the more engaged they will become.

7

You can even offer free treatments to clients who will be spending an extended amount of time with you to film the content, booking them in after your paying clients for the day are done or on your quieter days.

4

Aim to keep an eye on what’s trending and jump on anything you can participate in at the next opportunity.

5

Trending sounds or challenges are a great way of reaching more accounts who may not be following you while keeping your content up to date.
