Sustainable Packaging Program

In 2021, we avoided using more than 1,200 tons of virgin plastic, for a cumulative total of 6,500 tons avoided since 2019.

Our Sustainable Packaging Program enables us to incorporate circular economy principles in the production of our packaging, ensuring the high quality of our products while at the same time using environmentally friendly packaging. The initiative is the result of a close collaboration among all our Organizational Units and Sigma’s central research team.

Climate Action

Measuring the three scopes of CO 2 emissions contributes to defining a pathway toward reducing the carbon footprint of our operations and supply chain.

eq emissions per ton of food produced, from our 2015 baseline. This resulted from initiatives implemented in our plants and our refrigerated transportation fleet. We keep on track to achieve a 20% reduction of Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025.

Green Vehicles Pilot Program

In 2021, Sigma implemented a pilot program in Mexico to explore environmentally friendly technologies in our distribution service vehicles, including the use of hybrid and electric vehicles, as well as converting to natural-gaspowered units to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

With the positive results achieved in this program, we have taken the first step by approving the acquisition of nine electric vehicles that will join our fleet in 2022.

Additionally, we successfully tested new refrigeration systems that contribute to reducing fuel consumption in delivery trucks.
