t has been an amazing year for Sigma Mu Zeta. From the beginning of our Zeta year we have hit the ground running and we are finishing the 2015-2016 Zeta Year better than ever. We were honored with the prestigious state award for Chapter of the Year for our chapter size in Georgia. We receive prestigious recognition for our March of Dimes accomplishments in the Southeastern Region. We did not receive these honors without all the hard work and the collaborations of our beloved community. We had a drive this year that kept our standards of Zeta high and went far beyond our wildest dreams.

n June 12, 2016, a mass shooting terrorist attack and hate crime occurred inside Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida. It resulted in 53 wounded and 50 dead, including the gunman, who was killed by Orlando police after a three-hour standoff. It was the deadliest mass shooting by a single gunman and the deadliest incident of violence against LGBT people in U.S. history, as well the largest mass killing of LGBT people in the Western world since the Holocaust and the deadliest terrorist attack in the U.S. since the September 11 attacks in 2001.
