Omomo Joy Tamarauemi first runner up TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT THE ROLE OF YOUR PARENTS IN YOUR UPBRINGING AND ATTITUDE TO LIFE My parents have always taught me to stand for myself. Not to depend on anyone.

I believe in drawing my map. Prioritize. Understand what's important at a particular time. Social media is fantastic and I'm a social media person but understand I shouldn't spend all my time there.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS? I don't think I have anything I can all major accomplishment for now. I have a lot if things I want to do and I don't feel I am there yet. I'm a work in progress.

WHAT ABOUT SOCIALIZING AND FRIENDS? People are gold. They are priceless. I value friends and socializing witeth them is a great way to stay in contact constantly.

IN THE WAKE OF NEW REALITIES THAT WE FIND TODAY – SOCIAL NETWORKS, TECHNICAL ADVANCEMENTS – WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE TO THE NIGERIAN YOUTH? Focus, Stay focus and keep chasing that dream. I know there alots of distractions here and there but hard to cut them off and stay focused

HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE ADVAN COMPETITION? I first heard about it when students from my department won it last year. From that time, I made up my mind to compete the following year.

WHAT DO YOU WISH TO ACCOMPLISH IN LIFE AND WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER ASPIRATIONS? I plan to be relevant to my generation. My ultimate plan is to give opportunity to lots of youths out there with big and bright dreams. I intend to provide a platform for them to show to the whole world what they've got inside. I believe a lot of people have great ideas and visions but no opportunity to being these ideas to reality. A lot of challenges here and there. My aim is to five these people that opportunity.

WHAT ROLE HAS ENTERING AND WINNING IN THIS COMPETITION PLAYED IN YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW The completion has inspired me firstly to believe in myself and also, to understand it's not as difficult as it seems. It has also made me realise there I can do anything I put my heart into despite the circumstances around.

WHAT INSPIRED/ MOTIVATED YOU Well, what motivated me was the need to challenge myself. I wanted to know if I could do this. Although I got the brief late and I was writing exams at that time, I just wanted to challenge myself. I didn't plan winning. I just wanted to the experience and have fun with it.

TELL US ONE BOOK AND A MOVIE THAT YOU WOULD RECOMMEND EVERYONE TO READ AND WATCH? I'm not really the book person though and can't think of any right now. Movie I should recommend is FOCUS. I just love that movie. I ave watched it over and over again. Another should be blackish. Sometimes we just need to be unserious and get in with the flow.

YOU WERE IN THE SAME HALL WITH WHO IS WHO IN THE INDUSTRY, HOW DID YOU FEEL I felt good. I was a great privilege to be there.

TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR ATTITUDE TO FAITH. I believe so much in God. I can't do anything without him. My faith in God is unshakable. I die-hard believer.

WITH FACEBOOK, TWITTER, WHATSAPP AND OTHERS, HOW DO YOU MANAGE YOUR TIME, AND HOW OR WHERE DO YOU DRAW THE LINE?

becoming an expert in the field. I could literally smell creativity in the air that night. TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR ATTITUDE TO FAITH. I'm a Christian and I strongly believe that God has a great plan for everyone once we just surrender all to him. WITH FACEBOOK, TWITTER, WHATSAPP AND OTHERS, HOW DO YOU MANAGE YOUR TIME, AND HOW OR WHERE DO YOU DRAW THE LINE? I'm not really a social media freak and although I get distracted by some other things, I always try to set my priorities right. When it's time to learn or accomplish a task, I isolate myself from these distractions and face the task at hand.

MY LIFE HAS BEEN GREATLY INFLUENCED BY MY PARENTS. MOST OF THE DECISIONS I MAKE ARE ROOTED IN SOME OF THE THINGS I'VE BEEN LEARNT FROM THEM .

WHAT ABOUT SOCIALIZING AND FRIENDS? I hang out with friends when I can and since I have resourceful and creative people as friends, being with them is always educative and fun. IN THE WAKE OF NEW REALITIES THAT WE FIND TODAY – SOCIAL NETWORKS, TECHNICAL ADVANCEMENTS – WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE TO THE NIGERIAN YOUTH? We all know that the age we live is driven by technology, it is advisable that youths utilize the infinite information available on the web for their personal development and to learn new things. We shouldn't allow the internet to make us passive in life but we should make use of the vast opportunity it presents.

TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT THE ROLE OF YOUR PARENTS IN YOUR UPBRINGING AND ATTITUDE TO LIFE. My life has been greatly influenced by my parents. Most of the decisions I make are rooted in some of the things I've been learnt from them or things I've seen them do. WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS? I won some prizes in secondary school but winning the ADVAN competition still serves as my biggest achievement till date. HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE ADVAN COMPETITION? Information about competition was pasted on the department's notice board and a message was sent on my class' group chat informing anyone interested in entering for the competition.

WHAT DO YOU WISH TO ACCOMPLIS H IN LIFE A N D W H AT ARE YOUR CAREER ASPIRATIO NS? I'll love to be an expert in marketing communication s and create great m a r k e t i n g campaigns for various brands within and outside Nigeria.

WHAT ROLE HAS ENTERING AND WINNING IN THIS CO MP ET IT IO N P LAYED IN YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW Winning the competition has helped to increase the belief I have in myself. It has also stimulated my desire to learn as much as possible. WHAT INSPIRED/ MOTIVATED YOU God. I was also inspired by some great marketing campaigns I've read about. Speaking with some of my very creative friends also helped

Tell us one book and a movie that you would recommend everyone to read and watch? “The Big Bang Theory” is definitely the greatest TV series ever made, and I'll probably recommend the book, “The Slight Edge” by Jeff Olson to anyone,

YOU WERE IN THE SAME HALL WITH WHO IS WHO IN THE INDUSTRY, HOW DID YOU FEEL It was a very nice experience. Being in the same room with the brightest brains in the industry helps spur the desire to go the extra mile in

TAMILORE OLADIPO Second runner up MY MAJOR MOTIVATION WAS PROVING TO MYSELF THAT I COULD DO IT WITHOUT DROPPING OUT HALFWAY. try ing to build a better relationship with Him. The church I attend (Lifepointe) helps with that as well.

TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT THE ROLE OF YOUR PARENTS IN YOUR UPBRINGING AND ATTITUDE TO LIFE. My parents did not take the typical Nigerian-parent route of telling me what to do with my life and they did not do that with any of my siblings either. They at least tried to understand what I like to do and what I am good at in the same turn and nudged us in those career directions. They are major influences in all my life decisions and they do not just shield me from life, they try their best to

WITH FACEBOOK, TWITTER, WHATSAPP AND OTHERS, HOW DO YOU MANAGE YOUR TIME, AND HOW OR WHERE DO YOU DRAW THE LINE? I'm actually terrible at managing time and it takes a looming deadline to help me focus. I would definitely encourage others to try to minimize time spent on social media because it is incredibly distracting. Creating a schedule has helped me with that so it might work for other people. I draw the line at tests/exams/work because I do care about my GPA/money.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS? I don't think I have that many to be honest. The ADVAN competition is at the top of my list though. I also won Best in English (and some money) two years in a row and at graduation in high school. And I wrote a few articles for a YNaija series late last year/early this year.

WHAT ABOUT SOCIALIZING AND FRIENDS? Socializing doesn't take up a lot of my time because I have a lot of acquaintances but I'm very introverted so I have a very small circle of friends.

HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE ADVAN COMPETITION? Through my school.

IN THE WAKE OF NEW REALITIES THAT WE FIND TODAY – SOCIAL NETWORKS, TECHNICAL ADVANCEMENTS – WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE TO THE NIGERIAN YOUTH? Social media and technology are outside influences and you control how they affect you so my advice is to know yourself. Know what distracts you, know what conditions you work best in and know when to take a break. The world will keep advancing and no one can escape it, so keep up but don't let it consume you.

WHAT ROLE HAS ENTERING AND WINNING IN THIS COMPETITION PLAYED IN YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW It has opened me to the idea of participating more in competitions. I prefer to be on my own and work on my own so this competition definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone. Also, a lot of people come up to me and congratulate me which is nerve-wracking but also pushes me out of my comfort zone and introduces me to more people which I'm grateful for.

W H AT D O YO U W I S H T O ACCOMPLISH IN LIFE AND WHAT A R E YO U R C A R E E R ASPIRATIONS? Career-wise, I want to work in the marketing departments of major companies across the world (hi, Google). Either that or become a freelance editor/proofreader. I also want to set up my own company someday, for publishing or for marketing. I'm just taking these things day-by-day

WHAT INSPIRED/ MOTIVATED YOU I like winning things even though I don't like competition and that was my main driving force. I didn't have much time to prepare for the competition but working under pressure is my thing so it all worked out. My major motivation was proving to myself that I could do it without dropping out halfway.

Tell us one book and a movie that you would recommend everyone to read and watch? I love these types of questions because I read a lot and watch many movies. For a movie, I would recommend Interstellar, directed by Christopher Nolan because of the incredible visuals and storytelling. For a book, The Martian by Christopher Nolan because I love sci-fi and stories about isolation in space for some reason.

YOU WERE IN THE SAME HALL WITH WHO IS WHO IN THE INDUSTRY, HOW DID YOU FEEL Like I want to be them and better than them someday. TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR ATTITUDE TO FAITH. I definitely believe in God and I am

Aderemi Adetayo on OAAN, Advices the associa on to put house in order Aderemi Adetayo spoke with Signage’s Oyekan Babajide and Ikuforiji Bode at his Moving Media office in Yaba. The following excerpts are from an interview for SIGNAGE’s Person of the Year

FAMILY Talking about myself and how it all started, am married and by his grace, I have four children, six grandchildren. I have been married for the past 40 years, its been an interesting journey, my children are my friends, we have that kind of relationship, my children can tell me anything under the sun, together with spouses. They are all married and I tend to make them understand that what ever they do when they are with us, is what they should do when they are not with us, that had been the bedrock of our family, I have a wife who understand me very much, and no regret what so ever on this journey

LIFESTYLE Am a very private person, very simple, at the right time, I do what I had to do. Am not really a club person, I do party if I am invited, I enjoy myself but am not a club person. I don't get up from home to club except I go play gulf and disappear as soon as I finish gulfing. From my office, I head home straight, as much as possible, I find comfort in my home and I find comfort in my family.

BUSINESS how did you start out? I have always been an adventurous person, I ventured into Outdoor Advertising by my being adventurous, I was the one who introduced the Moving Billboard into the Out of Home Advertising in Nigeria, I built the chasis, there were no digital print machine in Nigeria as at the time, I hand printed the billboard and put it on the chasis with the wheels and one holy Monday morning, we pulled it with a Landcruser through the street of Lagos. that was how the Moving Billboard started and that have obviously metamorphosed into LED billboard now. I then got interested in Wall Drapes, the only person that did Wall Drape before me was a gentleman called Terry Otuya (Panafy Limited). He did first Wall Drape and I did the second and several others. I thought the era of innovation would continue but unfortunately the stringent regulatory laws came and that killed innovation. I hope better days would come where people regulating us,

have better understanding of what the business is all about so we can go back to the days of innovations. We haven’t done anything on water.

Editor: No sir, there was one a while ago, if memory serves me right! Yes, by a company ran by late Sesan Ogunro, God rest his soul. Before that, I did Canoe Billboard, that ran on waters here. There are so many things to do but we need to look at a lot of things, OAAN needs to get its home together, the government and regulator need to assist us. This is an Appeal, we need to make it very clear again, that we are partners in progress and we can achieve a lot together, we are indigene and nobody, I don't care where they come from, nobody can love this country more than us, No foreigner can love this country more than us.

ECONOMY Interesting, its been very challenging, very extremely challenging but the truth be told, we know the induces and we know the mistake that have been made, so mistake had been made, priority had been misplaced but like I always say, I think God is a Nigeria, any time, we go wrong, he gives us the opportunity to do a 360 degrees and find our feet again, so for me, I think God has been very kind to this country, this had happened before, it might not be on the same level, but this has happened before, the downturn and the upturn. I do know that when there was a global met down, we were blessed with the kind of leadership we had at that time, who was extremely prudent and had reserved, we had quite a lot of reserve o go back to which helped us, whether you like the person at the helms of affairs at that time or not, we give that to him. the effect of the global met down on the country was not as devastating as we thought or as it hit other countries, what has happened in the recent past and all the expose that we have seen, only a country as resilient as Nigeria can survive such day light robbery and brigandage but are we going to sit down and go on a pity party No, I believe and am convinced that this present government has come to the realization that we need to do what we need to do, we need to lay some priorities right, they might be getting the wrong end of the stick because there is no vacuum in government and since they are the one there, there is someone we need to hit with our frustration and that is why president Buhari is getting all the frustration having said all of this, I think priorities are now been laid properly, we have now realize that we can not be a mono- product country, everybody is looking at agriculture now, we are looking at the service industry, the manufacturing companies are picking up, I visited a factory in Sagamu, they make tiles and for the likes of me, I never believe that there is anything like that in our door step, it’s un-

I thought the era of innovation would continue but unfortunately the stringent regulatory laws came and that killed innovation. I hope better days would come where people regulating us, have better understanding of what the business is all about so we can go back to the days of innovations

28

believable what I saw, I tour that factory for two and half hourand I was balled over with what I saw and the quality of tiles produced there. all we need to do is, these product should be known in the market, they even export. we need to change our mind set because made in Nigeria is good, there are good product that are coming out now so once we can run away from consumer nation and become a producing nation, the sky is the limit, we have the numbers, we have the know how, we have the intelligence, we have the education, we have the market so if we produce what we consume, we will have a lot of forex. Nobody is going to build this country for us, At the risk of sounding like an old gramophone record, if you go to the Murtala Mohammed Airport from about 5Oclock, you will see white bodied jet coming into this country, three quarter of the people there are white people, European, foreigner, they wont love this country more than us, they are coming here because they know that there are businesses to be done here, we need to look inwards. Government have to help the indegene, the banks, the financial institution have to give and trust their own people, like what the bank of industry is doing for instance, we need to grow our own people, the era of the brief case business is gone, the foreigners would not love this country more than us, they will make the money here and go away with it, we need to do what we need to do, In this country and we need to believe ourselves, we need to grow this economy and thank God, things are picking up, unfortunately the fuel issue came in over the holidays but I didnt believe any government would want to do anything that would make life difficult for the pupulise and am sure they have gone back to the drawing board, NNPC

I am not saying we do not have our own issues, oh yes we do, we take a few things for granted

and all those that are involved, and find out where the issues are, if it is sabotage, then ley some people be brought to book, make example of them so that it wont happen again. The economy 2 to 3 years ago, things were tough but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

we need government help to survive, we need financial institution to assist us, they don't understand the business, we need to have a fora, the industry need to work to make different forum available for them to understand our business.

INDUSTRY

OAAN

I believe in the industry, I believe that there are a few naughty issues that need to be addressed, I believe that we need to have one on one with the government and they need to understand us, Government need to know that we are on the same page, that we are not in competition with government, we are partners in progress, we need to work together, they need to let us survive, the industry is on the throat of death, there is multiple taxation, over regulation. we are not fighting government, no body in his/her right senses will fight government, we are part of the public the government is controlling and we can a very high contributory part of governance if and when government create the enabling environment.

I have strong views about OAAN, very strong views, but we are not going to wash our dirty linen in public, there are soiled linens that need to be washed and I must say that I am as guilty as a lot of people because most of us have not been involved, I have not been involved in the running of the association, but I think we have come to the crunch now, I was talking to an elderly colleague in advertising and he said to me that we need to put our house in order, we need to work on opportunities where we lock ourselves in a room and talk to each other seriously about getting our acts in order, a lot of things are not right and we need to right the wrong, that is the most that I am going to say.

first, we are citizen of the country, before we are business people, before we are industry people, before we are advertising sectorial body, so government and regulators must not see us as opponents or frienemies. it is tough in this industry, in other countries must companies would have declared bankruptcy - it is that bad but we appeal to government to please help us, SHOES

where there is constant interaction, when there is no fears, when there are no us and them, if we are open books to one anther, life would be a lot better

REGULATING AGENCIES / GOVERNMENT POLICIES

I have strong views about something but you have to be very careful about how you talk about your regulator, this days because there is zero tolerance to dissenting views even if you stand up for your right, but hey the entity Nigeria belongs to all ofWALLETS us, we are all inter-related, it is a BAGS BELTS

Signage symbiotic relationship, the regulation is not there to kill us, the regulator will survive, if it has something to regulate. every body know that it has been bad economically and the first industry to get hit, is the marketing communications ans advertising budget. If you kill the goose that lay the golden egg, then what is there to regulate. I am not saying we do not have our own issues, oh yes we do, we take a few things for granted but where there is constant interaction, when there is no fears, when there are no us and them, if we are open books to one anther, life would be a lot better. what we need government to do is to understand us and talk to us and let us have a fora where we can talk and let them understand what we do and give us the opportunity for talks.

INFLUENCE My major life principle is to look at people that you can look up to and take what you can take away from them, I have known Professor Wole Soyinka for a long time, you can see a lot of his painting in my office, he doesn't know I collect his painting by the way but one of this days, am going to bring him here. I cant explain him, he is an enigma, he is somebody I have a lot of respect for, its like charity begins at home, where are our heros, you can see MKO Abiola right there too, this are our heros, if you go outside, you will see the Emir of Kano, that is a rare picture, the Emir of Kano on his kneels with his Mum praying for him. some of the painting here are not by masters, I bought them by the road side, we need to encourage our people, a lot of them are very good - so my major principle in life, if I see somebody who have something that I love and cherish, I would never envy that person, I don't envy anybody, nobody on the face of the earth. if you have what I want and cherish, I will pray to God that I want it and let it happen for me but I never ever envy anybody and that is the principle that I have taught my children, you only need to work hard , there may be tough times, now we are in a tough time, tough time don’t last but

tough people do. er are going through a phase now but what happens at the end of the tunnel is what is important. we have been through ths before, if you have not been through it, somebody have been through it before.

THE NIGERIAN OUTDOOR A D V E R T I S I N G ENVIRONMENT its going to the extend that it us attracting foreign companies now, so that means we have done something good, very good because you don't build something on nothing, so am very proud that am part of that, you can not write the history of Nigeria Out of Home Advertising and not put my name there, at the risk of being immodest, I introduced the Moving Billboard and popularized the wall drape. I have put the wall drape on several buildings, I put it on Cocoa House, Nitel building, CoinOil building, on Eko court, 1004 building, I made bold to say that and can shout it from the rooftop, nobody can take that away from me - if you hear the history, Remi Adetayo’s name would come out in the history of Out of Home Advertising in this country. I don't shy away from challenges at all, 2018 would open a lot of good thing by his grace.

INTRODUCTION OF DIGITAL TECHS AND IT EFFECTS ON T H E O U T D O O R ADVERTISING PRACTICE it has it challenges, a lot of advertiser prefers to be the only product, mono product on a billboard rather than being in a sequential display, the challenge of cost is also there, the challenge of electricity and vandalization, so the challenges are there. it is the natural way to go if the indices are right, but we are getting there and we would get there

so my major principle in life, if I see somebody who have something that I love and cherish, I would never envy that person, I don't envy anybody, nobody on the face of the earth. if you have what I want and cherish, I will pray to God that I want it and let it happen for me 30

We are going to start an assemble line of LEDs in Nigeria, that is already in place, it is the way to go, we have engineers on ground, the product is on ground, spare parts are on ground too, some of our staff have been to china for training.

ON FOCONO

INSURANCE

By the grace of God, we represent Focono LED in Nigeria and we have plans for the new year, Focono have fantastic products and we have started popularizing the product in Nigeria because like I said we must move away from consumerism, we must start producing

Interesting enough, I have always insured my sites, well because of the share size of what I do, Ten, Twelve years ago, I have been insuring my sites. I use quite a number of this insurance companies, it makes life easy, you got to bed easily and when the storm comes we are cool. we haven’t had lot of claims, but we have had a few claims.

So you are looking at producing LED here in Nigeria. We are going to start an assemble line of LEDs in Nigeria, that is already in place, it is the way to go, we have engineers on ground, the product is on ground, spare parts are on ground too, some of our staff have been to china for training. Focono is always here, they have an office here and there is already a registered Focono Nigerian Company with us as partners. It is the way to go, we have the numbers and we have west Africa in the horizon.

CHALLENGES OF THE PRACTICE OVER THE YEARS People who cant help us, do not understand the business, we need finance, we need to have understanding of the institution that can assist us and I think strongly that we need to start looking at conglomerate in the industry,5% of tangible is better than 100% of nothing.

The insurance companies are part of the financial institution, they don't understand the business, but if they don't understand the business, let us bring them in and make them understand the business. this is part of OAAN should be doing and like I said, I hold myself responsible as well as a lot of other people- we haven’t been well involved enough in the running of our professional body. we need to put it on an higher pedestal, we need to run it more professionally in order to get round peg in round hole. if we are a strong force, a few of the advertising agency would meet up in terms of payment but we have a dog eat dog situation, where somebody leave it and another person just run for the crumbs, its not going to work and that is part of what is killing us.

ADVICE Let get our house in order.

BUSINESS SYSTEMS: A MULTIPLIER OF SUCCESS

Benefits of Implementing a Business System There are several benefits that can be derived when an organization implements business systems. Some of them are discussed below

In Nigeria, many small and medium-sized businesses cannot function independently of the founder. A lot of things begin to fail when the person is unavailable. In some cases, the founder or manager as the case may be is involved in everything such that without his/her approval, nothing sails through. This happens because business owners do not utilize systems in their businesses. They are only few SMEs that have policies and procedures to follow with respect to recruitment, finance, employee conduct, quality and so on.

· Your Company Will Meet and Exceed Customers Expectations: If you use systematic approach, you will have a specific marketing system that will have a subsystem to watch the expectations and satisfaction of your customers. This subsystem will analyze, measure, compare and test all the possibilities of what your customers want and don't want. You will have constant information on areas that need to be improved and, even more importantly, you will begin to understand the unmet needs of customers. A business system is key to improving the brand that the organization projects to your community, including customers, employees and suppliers. · Your Company Will Produce Consistent Results: A business system gives you a “process to fix your processes.” It is designed to give you effective, efficient and repeatable results. This state in which you can repetitively produce the same and better results every time can be achieved only with business systems implemented in your company. Imagine what will happen if you don't have a system that will define the structure of each activity and task for your staff members. All your staff members will work differently at each repetition of the task and because of that will also give totally different results. Therefore, business systems ensure a quality in realization of all activities each time with same or better quality than what was obtained previously. · Reduce Cost and Increase Profits: When the business processes are consistent, efficiency is increased and this will dramatically cut costs due to limited mistakes in your company. All your tasks must be completed with higher possible quality from the first time. It has been proven time and again that the implementation of a sound business system helps reduce costs, but so will many things. A business system is intended to reduce costs without taking the shortcuts that often lead to an erosion of profitability due to the necessity to lower quality expectations or service levels. You cannot manage and improve what you don't measure. With business systems, you can monitor your processes and procedures and remove inefficiencies. · Employee Engagement & Performance will Improve: The goal of the system is to enable proper education and opportunities to all employees so they can complete their work more efficiently and effectively. With effective business systems in place, employees will know what to do, when to do it and how to do it and the work completed in a certain period of time will be higher. It also helps to harness their ideas and creativity and, in the process, increase their personal engagement. Additionally, having the system in place allows you to quickly integrate new-hires, and one key trait of successful businesses, especially those that have existed through several generations, is the existence of a clear structure and business systems that help the business to operate effectively.

ARTICULES

Many businesses don't keep accurate records of their activities including complete information about operations, finances, transactions, customers, suppliers, employees and everything else. This is also an effect of lack of business systems. What is a Business System? A business system is one of the most useful elements in any company. A business system as defined by the Business dictionary is a methodical procedure or process that is used as a delivery mechanism for providing specific goods or services to customers. A business system is designed to connect all of an organization's intricate parts and interrelated steps to work together for the achievement of the business strategy. An effective business system often unifies the problem solving and decision making of the organization.

Conclusion Even though you are starting small, the best time to lay the foundation for a good business system is now. Begin to create processes for every function that is performed in and by your business. While doing this, plan with growth and expansion of the business in mind. It will help to provide order, assign responsibilities for key activities and improve accountability.

Prince Oluwaseyifunmi Atobiloye Adewale (lion). Hefitech Outdoor Service Limited DESCRIBE YOURSELF The little I can say about myself is that am a patient person, then am a person that always think ahead. If and when anything happens to me, I don’t apply it to push me down, I always look for a way out, a way forward, because I would rather keep moving forward rather than get stuck.

WHERE HAVE YOU WORKED I started work as an apprentice where I used 9years, after graduation I went work at Mookko somewhere Agbara, I was there for 6 -8 months, I left due to their work ethics, our machine can be bad for several day and work for one day etc. It was there I joined Optisteel in 1997, I was staffed 3 months after because of my performance, I used 4 years there before I resigned, I resigned voluntarily because I got a better offer at Rocana Nigeria Limited Enugu. I spent 6 months in Enugu. I came back to Lagos and started Hefitech under the bridge at Ijora, we moved from there to a rented plot of land in Ikorodu and moved to our permanent site here in Gberigbe Ikorodu.

YOUR BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT We have achieved quite a number of things over years, but the Mediaviews LED board just by Oworonshoki - Oko-con is one of our biggest. Before we took over that board, they used to hire crane to the site which means they would have to backfill the road leading to the site but when we took over the site, we worked there without using cranes - s0 many people didn’t believe we could do it but we were determined to prove ourselves and we achieved our set goal, even Mediaviews MD in person of Mr Adedoyin Didint believe we could achieve it but after the work is done, we were glad everybody was happy to see what we have been able to achieve. we remained on that site until it was changed to an LED board, although we still worked on the site afterwards, we were the one who covered the back of the board as it was transparent as nobody would be able to see the display on the board during the day, they would only see the structure behind instead of the display on the board itself. So we advised that a flexi material should be used to cover the back of the board, and it worked, the materials stayed there till when it could withstand the ocean breeze around that area, the material stayed at the back of that board for more than 8months. I went back to Mr Adedoyin, told him we need to construct a permanent structure behind that board, he gave us the go ahead and we did it, and by the grace of God, the structure is still at the back of the board.

Profile December 2017 There are boards like that, some many we have worked on, we have done so many Unipoles, Walldrapes, rooftops, so many I cant count or even remember - we are presently working on one now, it's a 150meters by 25meters at Balogun at the back of UBA owned by Lookmedia

C O M PA N I E S Y O U H AV E WORKED FOR Our work always speak for us, we have had the opportunity to work for top companies within the industry - Mediaviews, Fransisstillwaters, Medialink, Jimmypeters, and Grace & Mercy

HEFITECH IN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS I see Hefitech to be one of the leading fabricator within the outdoor advertising industry, and in some other area of construction, Hefitech outdoor services does not provide only outdoor services alone, we also build warehouses, water tanks, petrol station and other general construction works. So I see us as one of the leading company in the area of fabrication/ construction in Nigeria and by his grace the world at large.

THE NAME HEFITECH The name Hefitech stands for standard, integrity and innovation, the name was initially formed out of my Muslim name Afeez, it was Azeez technology but I had a friend back in those days, he travels a lot and on one of his trips to chine I a s ke d h i m o f h e c o u l d h e l p m e w i t h complimentary cards from china, he asked for the name and I gave him Afeez Technology but when he came back with Hefitech, and that was how it stuck.

YOUR LOCATION Our Location doesn’t disturb our business but rather it makes us more effective and efficient, our client knows our worth and trust in our ability to deliver as at when due. We are very good at what we do, we take pride in our work and I can tell you categorically that we are the best hands in the business. we have people who trust us an we would never betray that trust. A few of our client have been here, like the present OAAN President, Mr. Tunde Adedoyin, and was very amazed. our work requires a lot of space, because most times after fabrication, we assemble it to see if there are need for adjustment before taking to site.

Signage

CHALLENGES One of our major challenge is when you give some clients ideas, they take the idea to others to work implement, another is when someone design a particular structure, by right, you should have total right to that design but that is not obtainable here. Others have to do with payment, when a client call you for a job and says, they have 50% now and would pay the remaining 50% when the job is done but most time, the clients don't hold up to their words, they forget that we collect materials from our suppliers with the promise of payment or paying the balance when the job is done, but after completing the job, our clients now come up with the stories that their own clients haven paid them meanwhile our suppliers don’t want to listen to that. The Street Auchin issue is another one, we don't have them again in Lagos though but they are still in other state, especially in Ibadan, Warri and Port-Harcourt. The issue of quotation is another serious one, when you give client a particular quote and the client doesn’t release funds until about a month or two, when you get to the market to buy material, you will discover that prices have changed and you won’t be able to go back to the client for price review aside some very few ones.

JOINING OAAN? Why not, we will join, sometime ago, OAAN under the Presidency of Mr. Ademulegun, they called us together t h at t h ey wa nte d to u n i te a l l febricators, organize workshops and trainning for us, they at that point even suggested an association for Fabricatiors. We were asked to pay some money, and didn’t hear anything afterwards. let me state here categorically that the money collected isn’t the issue here but all that was promised, that didn’t see the light of day, so if we are called to come join the Association, we would gladly join, as long as its going to be beneficial to everybody and won’t chase us out of the industry.
