At its Nov. 13 meeting, the Signal Hill City Council approved two environmental measures– green-waste recycling for commercial businesses and an electric-vehicle charging-station policy– along with a contract to improve internet connectivity for municipal departments. It also reminded residents that officer nominations for two council seats and the city clerk and treasurer positions are open until Dec. 7 at 4:30pm. Voting will take place March 5. Green-waste recycling The council agreed to introduce an ordinance amending the city’s refuse code to establish a mandatory organic-recycling program for commercial businesses, including multi-family dwellings with five or more units. The float’s theme will be “The Rhythm of Heart,” to celebrate the power of kindness and individuals who selflessly serve their communities. “Joseluis has done that and so much more,” Delima said. “The gift of time is truly the greatest gift that we can ever provide somebody.” Delima added that, during the parade, the float will be accompanied by living donors and organ recipients who will walk alongside it. The float will also be adorned with thousands of roses, each of which will carry a handwritten dedication. On Tuesday, Cruz’s family and hospital staff signed 10 of the roses that will be used. His parents, sisters and brotherin-law also spoke about how difficult it was to return to the hospital

For the second year in a row, aquariums across the country are collaboratively campaigning against single-use plastic, and eliminating straws is the #FirstStep, according to a press release this month from the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.
The press release indicates that the #FirstStep campaign includes: •

Recruiting 500 new businesses to partner with aquariums and commit to offer straws only on request, for a total of 1,000 businesses An online pledge site (pledge. ourhands.org) A text-message campaign

Initiatives by partner aquariums to inspire cities in their regions to pass “straws-on-request” ordinances and other local measures to reduce single-use plastic
