After sponsoring and planning much of the Long Beach Veterans Day Parade for over 20 years, the Long Beach Veterans Day Committee announced that it will no longer sponsor The 23rd annual parade that was slated to take place in November. According to the committee’s website, lbveteransdayparade. com, the committee “canceled” the parade. “Due to [the] lack of understanding of the city’s new special-events regulations, no explanation of the new regulations, and the lack of enough time to prepare for a parade, the Long Beach Veterans Day Parade Committee will not sponsor the 23rd Annual LB Veterans Day Parade. The City of Long Beach has been given the committee’s permission to sponsor this year’s parade, but they have not announced their intentions,” the committee announced in a statement on Wednesday. The Signal Tribune has reached out to the committee and city officials and will follow up with a full story accordingly.
Ring around crime: LBPD to use Ring’s Neighbors mobile app to fight crime. Anita W. Harris Staff Writer
Smartphone users have long used their devices for more than just calling people; now they can use an app to help catch criminals. The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) announced last week that it is partnering with Ring– the maker of doorbell security cameras– to use that company’s Neighbors mobile application to aid detective work. “We believe that this platform
will allow our detectives to build stronger cases with the help of video evidence and information shared with us by our community members,” LBPD Adult Investigation Section Lt. Joseph Gaynor said in a press statement. The Neighbors-app network already has millions of users nationwide who help catch package thieves, stop burglaries and keep neighborhoods safe, the LBPD states. see RING page 11
