Members of the Long Beach community gathered for a vigil at Saint Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church to mourn and offer support on Wednesday after a deadly mass shooting took place Tuesday night, which left three men dead and nine more injured.

Dozens of people assembled at the front steps of the church where 12 candles were arranged for the victims– three candles for the victims who were killed and nine more for the wounded. Organizers also passed out candles to the crowd before the event. Second District Councilmember Jeannine Pearce addressed the

mourners and spoke of the frustration and powerlessness her and other members of the City felt in situations like this. “There are not many words that anybody that’s going to get up on the stage can say to make what happened okay,” Pearce said. “So, I just want to take a moment of sisee VIGIL page 15

Executive members from the Port of Long Beach, the Long Beach Airport, Los Angeles Metro and political figures converged Wednesday morning at the Hyatt Regency Hotel to talk about sustainable transportation solutions across the Southland during Long Beach Transit’s first Mobility and Sustainability Summit. Long Beach Transit (LBT), the port and the airport (LGB) are key players when it comes to moving people and cargo across the city and the country. Transit had over 23.8 million customers in 2018, the port is considered the nation’s second busiest port and LGB had an average of 3.8 million passengers take off from its runway. The Long Beach Airport (LGB) launched their new therapy-dog program on Wednesday. The program, known as STARS (Simple Therapy And Real Smiles), is aimed at reducing stress by pro-

viding trained therapy dogs to comfort travelers. The airport hosted a celebration in which the nine participating therapy dogs were presented and given their official STARS dog vest. see THERAPY DOGS page 14
