CURLING

Wells Gray Curling Club

i

If this is a sport you would like to try, contact us! Contact Mitch Miller • wgcurl@hotmail.com for pricing and more information

Curling is a team sport, played by two teams of four players each on a rectangular sheet of ice. The teams take turns sliding polished stones down the ice toward a target called the ‘house’. The final positions of the stones or rocks determine the score for each end of play. Curling is a great way to get out of the house, meet old friends and make new ones.

Curling begins October 15 • Love Where You Live Fun Bonspiel: TBA • Ladies Bonspiel: February 21–23, 2020 Dates may change.

Sylvia Arduini Sabine Cooperman Instructor Sabine Cooperman Sylvia Arduini Sabine Cooperman

Todd Phillips Mountain Bike Instructor Born and raised in Port Moody, BC, I started mountain biking in the late 80’s through to the late 90’s; the growth and boom of ‘cycling’ to mountain biking as a ‘sport’. We rode our hard tails (that’s all there was!) on what now can only be coined the “original classics” of the Tri-Cities area; Orthodontist, Dentist, Chiropractor, Sawblade, and the trail network at SFU and IOCO. Fast forward to today, 30+ years have gone by, and mountain biking has come a long way. Bikes are now finely tuned machines. Trail networks are being constructed and can be searched online, and applications are available to track all aspects of your riding. Along with all of these changes, we have seen an increase in the knowledge and understanding of the science, physics, kinetics/ bio mechanics of riding. In 2017, I obtained my Level 1 Coaching Certification through the Professional Mountain Bike Instructors Association, with the goal of becoming a better rider, and to promote mountain biking in Clearwater. For the past 2 years, with support from the DOC, I have hosted some riding clinics, here in Clearwater. Clinics are designed to provide a safe and comfortable environment for participants to build their confidence through basic skill building and practice. We will break down the various aspects of riding, providing individual attention and skill building exercises, which will take your riding to a new level.

Wellness… SomatiKa Sharon Neufeld RMT TH Aging can be a series of forgetting how to move when long held pain and movement traumas are held in the bodies memory. Somatika retrains the body how to move in balance, gently without strain or pain, through slow, mindful movements. The result is a reduction of pain and an increase in function. This occurs when the soma (the body as it is aware of itself) is awakened. Amnesia in the map of the body, this happens with pain, trauma and movement patterns. This improves and can disappear, hence quality of life is better as activities increase. Other benefits include increased physical and mental wellness, decrease in anxiety, deeper sleep, relief of GI difficulties and memory. Date: Wednesdays Oct. 23–Dec. 11 Time: 6:30–7:30pm Cost: $65/8 weeks Location: DLCC

SENIORS

Wells Gray Country Seniors Society Bus trips are planned and organized throughout the year for events of interest to seniors.

i

For more information or help with documents, contact Lynne Frizzle at 250.674.8185 or seniorsnetworkcoordinator@gmail.com Senior Coordinator, Lynne Frizzle works with the Wells Gray Country Seniors Society to engage seniors in the community. Over the past several years she has planned and organized monthly luncheons for seniors. In that time, exercise programs have become very popular, with Sit and Be Fit being the most popular. She hosted a Seniors Symposium that included a Seniors First BC representative as keynote speaker and where community groups and organizations had tables displaying their information for seniors. It was a very successful event. She has also been instrumental in Clearwater becoming a member of the BC Community Responses Network that is a diverse group of concerned community members who come together to create a coordinated community response to adult abuse, neglect and self-neglect. Lynne has enjoyed her time as the coordinator and looks forward to planning more events for seniors.
