WELCOME and THANK YOU for Attending the 2022 BUCKEYE ALPACA SHOW Dear Exhibitors, Volunteers, Vendors and Guests, Welcome to the 18th annual Buckeye Alpaca Show! The cover of this year’s show program is a tribute to Anne Stachowski, who left us for heaven this past December. Anne had a long life, well lived, and attended every one of the past 17 Buckeye Alpaca Shows, taking immense pleasure in winning Purple! We have so many lasting memories of Anne at this show! It is exciting that our show continues to attract new and established breeders. We continue to be totally sold out of sponsorships each year and are so appreciative of your support! There are several farms that are joining us for the first time. I am pleased with the exceptional turnout for our Small Breeder classes. We have a great show team in place combined with the industry’s most experienced Judges that are excited to provide our exhibitors with a fun and rewarding weekend. As we did last year, our Live Auction will take place Saturday night in the Show Ring, accompanied by your favorite beverages and delicious appetizers. Bid Often and High to obtain fantastic and valuable auction items and take pride that your investment is helping us continue to fund veterinary conferences and scholarships for large Animal Veterinary students at OSU. Several of the scholarship recipients joined us for the fall show and are planning to attend this weekend. In December 2021 we donated another $20,000 to the Scholarship fund, bringing our total to $70,000 over the past 3 years. We also plan to fund a virtual Camelid Veterinary Conference held by OSU later this year. We have returned to our normal floor plan, housing our vendors on the second-floor mezzanine of the Arena Complex, and actively promoting our event to the public. Please be sure to check out the vendors, inquire about wholesale accounts and take the time to restock your farm stores with their fabulous alpaca treasures. Everyone needs alpaca socks, hats, scarves, and gloves to get through our long, cold winters! In closing, I wish to reiterate that I am immensely grateful for your continued support of the Buckeye Alpaca Shows and our industry!

The retirement of “Baby-Boomer” aged, Large Animal Veterinarians has dramatically reduced the number of veterinary specialists trained to treat our alpacas. Furthermore, the lack of scholarships for large animal students discourages them from pursing Large Animal veterinary medicine. This is why the Buckeye Alpaca Show, Inc., a 501c3 Public Charity, established at the end of 2018, a current use scholarship fund with the Ohio State University Foundation for the benefit of The College of Veterinary Medicine. Proceeds from the Live Auction and profits of the Buckeye Alpaca Fall Fest have been donated to this fund in 2019-2021.
The fund provides $5,000 annual scholarships for third and/or fourth year veterinary students who have an interest in practicing large animal including equine medicine. Recipients are selected by the University in accordance with the University’s guidelines and procedures. Preference is given, as appropriate, to students who have an interest in large animals, have volunteered to assist, and/or have attended the bi-annual OSU Camelid Veterinary Conference.
Over the past 3 years Buckeye Alpaca Show, Inc. has donated $70,000 to this fund. Four $5,000 scholarships will be awarded in April 2022. In the past three years, ten $5,000 scholarships have been awarded by OSU. The scholarships were awarded to: Michelle Carman, Miranda Hengy, Wyatt Ford, and Sarah Harp in 2019. Wyatt Ford, Sandra Barzola and Cristina Coriano-Perez in 2020. Corvin Mull, Nicolas Fairbank and Sandra Barzola in 2021.
