Change is inevitable, and at times welcome. This year you’ll notice a significant change in our monthly newsletter. The colorful, new Spotlight includes the same information regarding trips, classes, and star groups, but now adds other interesting facts and health related stories. Be sure to peruse the newsletter to see some of the changes implemented. The center spread contains one page dedicated solely to our Eat & Educates while the facing page features other classes and events. Your input has been most helpful in planning trips. We are excited to announce that our “big” excursions for 2018 include a spring trip to Memphis, TN and Maine in the fall! As always, an exciting array of one-day trips are in the works. The Fox Theatre was the most requested activity, so guess what? We’re going! Watch for call dates. Your feedback is taken to heart when planning future classes and events, too. Information collected from you allows us to quickly repeat popular classes. We aim to keep desired medical information coming your way, as well as fun classes that our Health Educator has a flair for.

TRIP & CLASS POLICY • Reservations are required for all trips and classes. • Trips require prepaid reservations. Please adhere to the requirements set forth in the policy. • Registered guests of members for all trips, events and classes must be at least 21 years of age.

SPECIAL NEEDS It is the responsibility of the SIH Second Act member to notify the Second Act office at least two weeks prior to the published cancellation deadline for a trip or event (one week prior to the date of an educational program) or upon registration, whichever date is earlier, if he/she has a need which requires special accommodations in order to participate. SAVR is an open heart surgical treatment for patients with aortic stenosis, one of the most common and serious valve disease problems. So how does that fit in with TAVR, or transcatheter aortic valve replacement? Federal rules require hospitals to complete at least 50 SAVRs before launching a TAVR program. It involves collaboration from our cardiovascular surgeons, Prairie Cardiovascular’s interventional cardiologists and the OR team at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Prairie Drs. Magdalena Zeglin and Gangadhar Malasana will spearhead the TAVR program for the organization.
