Why do some of the classes fill up so quickly? Over 3,000 people attend classes and trips. We post our newsletter and classes on www.sih.net/secondact the day the newsletters are mailed out. When registering, it’s best to call as soon as possible. Also, please cancel a class you cannot attend to make room for those on the waiting list. Can you explain the activity levels on trips? The activity level helps members determine if they are physically capable of going on the trip. The Minimal level trip requires very little walking, such as attending a play or luncheon. PRACTICE

SUN SAFETY Believe it or not, summer is almost here. Although it’s great for our health to be outdoors and soaking up vitamin D, too much sun can be a bad thing if left unprotected. Too much sun exposure can age our skin and even lead to skin cancer. This is due to what is known as Ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Pamela Wright, an RN and Aesthetic Nurse with the SIH Medical Group Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery states, “What people don’t realize is that when they’re not getting burned, they are still getting damage from UV rays, and those are the UVA rays.”

What’s your reason to quit smoking? To save money? Breathe easier? Be a healthy role model for your children or grandchildren? You don’t have to do it alone! This is an evidence-based smoking cessation program. There are six sessions, with the quit date scheduled for the third session. Each one includes information, practice skills, and support to help you reach your smoke-free goal. Program leaders are trained and certified by the Respiratory Health Association.

According to the American Cancer Society, “UVA rays can cause skin cells to age and are linked to wrinkles, but are also thought to play a role in some skin cancers. UVB rays are the main rays that cause sunburns. They are also thought to cause most skin cancers.” They recommend to stay in the shade, protect your skin with clothing and wear a hat to protect your head, face, and neck, wear sunglasses that block UV, and use sunscreen.

Register: SIH Call Center 866.744.2468 For more information www.hsidn.org/couragetoquit

“The biggest antiaging tool in your arsenal of products is your sunscreen,” Wright added. Be safe this summer and protect your skin.
