history and vision Play equipment has a long tradition. In the 17TH century the first swings and carousels appeared and served as the enjoyment of aristocratic society. In the 19 th century gym equipment appeared in public spaces. Caused by the industrial revolution at the end of the 19 th century, public health became increasingly important for urban design. This included the creation of small playgrounds as meeting points for children, youth and also adults. Due to increased population density in cities and growing mobility, playgrounds became an integral part of urban planning. The facilities in these spaces developed from simple steel equipment in the 1950s to play equipment made of wood and wood-composite panels in the 1970s. Since the 1970s the playground has been part of a polarising debate between ghetto and oasis, which was resolved early 1990s and created the demand for open play spaces.

The play equipment from SIK-Holz速 perfectly suited the design of these open play areas, and has since then influenced and shaped the market for play equipment. With this brochure we would like to share the success story of SIK-Holz速, from the beginning until today. Since 1988 we are tireless producing and desiging playground equipment made of creative ideas and robinia wood. Responsible behaviour towards the environment and society is important to us. Our mission statement provides a solid foundation and is based on our success story. It helps us to create child-friendly play spaces and highly liveable environments in short, medium and long term.

Mission Statement 1 We are interested in better and free play! We know that children want to have fun. Different constitutional, social and psychological conditions are important in order to guarantee an optimal contribution to the health- and wellbeing as well as personality development of a child. Over the last decades we have been collecting know-how from theory and best practice, that we better understand child movement, the play instinct, the value of play and physical and intellectual development. These are constantly developed and optimised in our play space concepts.
2 We are the individual and creative original! The individual design of play equipment requires a high degree of flexibility and creativity from our staff. We want to preserve the originality created in the design and colour by taking some of the traditional shapes, methods and knowledge into account.
3 We stand for safety and quality! Quality matters to us. We unite visual quality, solid craftsmanship, durability, stability and safety in all of our products. The robinia wood is the perfect material for our approach. We demonstrate our competence, commitment and high level performance not just through appropriate certificates, but with every new exciting play ground project we can design and build for our clients.
4 We do business according to fair competition principles! Our world offers something for everyone. We think this is a good thing, and are open-minded toward our competitors. It matters to us, that we operate honestly, competently and in a client oriented manner at all times. Evidence of this can be seen in our long-lasting relationships with clients and our reliability toward them.
5 We accept ethical responsibility, and advocate for the rights and values of children and young people.
We live, work and play in a new eco-social environment. In order to be able to shape it in a proactive manner, we are operating in a future-oriented, environmental-friendly and sustainable way. We are certified with the Brandenburg environmental label, follow the FSC rules for responsible forest management and support young talents. We have a strong social awareness and are committed to democracy, social values and global responsibility.

Rainbow project The rainbow project exists since 16 years and occurs in locations that need a symbol of hope. 20-25 youth from various countries come together in multi-week work camps – they build a play equipment in the design of a rainbow under expert guidance of Klaus-Peter Gust [www.rainbowproject.de].

Heating with a fast growing raw material such as wood is low-emission and CO2 neutral and therefore climate friendly.
We are certified according to the guidelines of the FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council). With this certificate it is possible for us to verify the entire material flow of the wood we use, and to support sustainable forestry. On request we can, for a surcharge, offer all our products with a FSC® certificate.

Environmental Seal The ›Brandenburg Environmental Seal in Handicraft‹ represents an evaluation of the operational environment situation. Our goal is to introduce a environmental management system, that saves us time and costs. We found the best way to acheive this is through an adaptive practice structure with simple goal oriented procedures. A successful evaluation of our operational environment in 2010 granted us the certificate by th Potsdam Chamber of Crafts and the Brandenburg Ministery of Environment. Recently SIK-Holz® received successfully an extension unitl the year 2017.
Professional development Continous education and training of our staff takes place on many levels. Firstly we support ongoing professional development through cost sharing and leaves of absence, as well as offering general training through external and internal seminars. Qualifications gained up to now:
Business administrators
Supervised bachelor thesis
Master craftsmen
- Doctor bag (Repair kit) - Playground doctor (2 day seminar) - Care & Maintenance contracts
According to DIN 79161 we have currently 10 internal qualified playground inspectors.
Fully integrated into our organisational structure is the quality management system EN ISO 9001:2008. It creates the basis for good working conditions and guarantees the adherence of our high quality requirements.
Student internships per year
Maintenance & care The regular care and maintenance of our play equipment can strengthen the period of investment. This can have positive add on effects for the immediate neighbourhood. We offer our clients support through the following:
Equipment safety and quality are an inseparable unit. For us good design without safety is unthinkable. This is why even at the planning stage we comply with the standards of the European norm EN 1176 - 2008 (in it's current version). The quality management system is fully integrated into our organisational structure and he compliance with safety standards is regularly checked by our employees.

prevention of CO2 emissions with EWS electricity. Our annual energy demand is 280,000 kWh. Since 2012 we have been purchasing renewable electricity from the Schönau power plant. In 2011, 288.65 tons of radioactive waste was purchased in Germany, this will also be 100 % avoided with EWS electricity.
Products Our extensive range of products support free and varied play. Every piece is unique. Irregularities in the growth, grain, growth rings, branches and roots make them something very special. Our products generate both an exciting dynamic in an urban space and a harmonious interdependence in a rural space.
