Houses as Homes: Rethinking Resettlement


Bulk-buying in Parkwood • SILK are coordinating a community led project to set up a bulk-buying scheme following on from the Just Coping report. • The project was initiated by a multi-agency core team, including residents • A team of 5 residents are now leading the project, have developed a business plan and are taking the project further. • ‘R Shop’ was launched June 2010.


Houses as Homes: Rethinking Resettlement

• SILK have undertaken this project looking at the resettlement of offenders. • There are a wide range of multiagency partners involved. • ESRO performed 3 place ethnographies and 7 individual ethnographies to inform the project. • Findings have been used to inform the Kent and Medway Housing Strategy. • A report will be published Autumn 2010.

SILK Skills •

One of SILK’s aims is ‘To build the capacity and skills of staff across the council – and indeed its partners – to focus on citizens and experiences, rather than services and organisations, when developing strategy and implementation plans.’

This is done through many channels such as SILK web, projects, events and workshops

SILK have facilitated many workshops with different teams across KCC and externally.
