Foreword: I like my books to be more practical than theoretical, so I‘m not going to write exhaustively about Egyptian mythology, the life of the gods, not least because there are at least four myths of creation: Heliopolite, Memphite, Hermopolitan and Theban. My aim of writing this book is to be a practical tool that can be used in everyday life, covering the basic concepts and Egyptian magic (Heka) modus operandi. In the chapter of each deity (Netjer), I obviously discuss a little about the characteristics of that deity. Heka, kemetic magic (Kemet was the name of Ancient Egypt) is sometimes also called kemeticism. However, the Kemetic known today is a part of the revival of the ancient Egyptian tradition that emerged as a movement during the 1970s. Heka (Hka) was one of the names by which magic was known, or the deification of magical practice. The words of power such as mantras and invocations were known as Hekaut - words of power . Hekaut were also written on amulets and sometimes placed next to the dead for protection in the afterlife. Heka was the sacred connection between the magician and the gods. Sometimes magic was written as hk3w, the word Ka represents the vital energy, hk3w (hekau or heka) would be a supernatural energy that existed from the beginning of time, there is still an association with the power of the word, the power of evocations and magic spells. Heka was later personified as the god of medicine and magic, "He who activates the Ka" (vital energy, sometimes referred to as the astral body). However, the heka god had no worship or temples in his honor. There are several definitions for heka, they also referred to the energy or magical power of each god, each Egyptian god had a certain level of heka (magical power). The first information about Egyptian magic was derived from 4500 BC. The magical amulets created at that time remained in use until approximately the 5th century AD and were revived again in modern times. There are still some written spells that have survived to this day in reliefs, paintings, papyri, etc. There were three types of magic: Everyday magic (typical temple magic) and the magic related to the individual's life. I must focus that many hermetic and occult societies today (be it Freemasonry, Rosicrucian, Thelema) contain many rituals after inspiration from Egyptian magic, some founders of these orders learned about the occult

8

while traveling to Egypt, Helena Blavatski, Aleister Crowley are some examples. I must mention the famous Egyptian Book of the Dead. The Egyptian Book of the Dead (whose original title was something as: Book of Going Out into the Light) was a collection of spells, magic formulas, prayers, hymns and litanies written on papyrus scrolls and placed in tombs next to the mummies. The aim would be to help the soul (ba) of the deceased in his journey to the afterlife, bypassing any dangers that he might encounter in his spiritual journey. The ancient Egyptians called this collection of texts Reu Nu Pert Em Hru, which can be translated as "The Manifestation of the Day" or "The Manifestation of Light".

The Egyptians did not see death as an end of life but as a passage to a new beginning. Around 1600 BC, the different spells were divided into chapters and in the period between 1570 and 1069 BC, the book became more popular, although it was still a luxury item. Spell expert scribes were hired to make personalized copies for a single individual or family. However, despite the fact that the spells were intended for the discarnate souls, one could resort to a scribe who, knowing in advance how such a person lived, would write a book of spells made especially for him who, according to his way of life would face a specific journey. In the Ancient Egyptian texts, magic was a gift from the gods so that we could overcome the obstacles to our destiny; it was believed that the gods also had magical power for them, to regulate their own destiny. In ancient Egypt, magic and religion complemented each other, there was no separation. The Greeks often traveled to Egypt to study the wisdom of the priests and what they called theurgy, in Greek Theoi means gods and ergon: work. Theurgy is a form of ritual (ceremonial) magic, with the aim of incorporating divine strength either in a material object such as a statue, or in the human being through the production of a visionary trance state. He seeks perfect communion with God, obtained through ceremonial techniques such as rituals, prayers, exercises and studies. It was the domain of the hierophants who ministered in the different temples.

9

There were different Temples and, therefore, each region was devoted to specific gods, so from there were derived different schools or systems of magic, at least twelve. In the city of Hermopólis, they worshiped Ra, the solar god, they had studies on the tree of life (Kabbalah copied these teachings), a twenty-one evolutionary path in spirituality. In Hermopolis, they also dedicated themselves to ceremonial magic and worshiping Tehuti (Toth) god of wisdom, studies and occult knowledge. One of the systems was Setep-Sa and consisted of psychometry and divination. Setep-Sa can be translated as: practitioner of magic. In Memphis and Alexandria, they were dedicated to tarology (the Egyptians developed several oracles among them the tarot) the arcana symbolized secrets on which they could meditate, some magic was also performed with these teachings. In Edfu and Dendera there were temples of worship for Hathor, Heru (Horus) and Nut, following the path of astrology, magic was regulated by astrological alignments at specific dates. Kemet (Ancient Egypt) was the cradle of many spiritual practices, tarology, ceremonial magic, alchemy, hermeticism, yoga, afterwards other peoples (especially the Greeks) copied many practices and teachings. For example, Hermes Trimegisto (founder of Hermetism) as the Greeks nicknamed him, was actually the god Toth. Alchemy (al-khem) was the art of manipulating metals, elements and energies. Al-khem can be translated as the art of the people of Khem (Egypt).

Greetings to Thoth: "Djehouty pa aa, pa aa, pa aa" (Toth great, great, great) The esoteric doctrines of Egypt formed the heart of the Greek philosophical school known as Neoplatonism, which was based on a magical view of the world. Then came the mystery cults under the influence of mystical and magical thought. Although some practices such as meditation, remote vision, astral projection may seem modern (new age, of recent days) but they were already commonly practiced for seven thousand years among Egyptians, they called the astral plane Ashiah, the astral body or vital fluid Ka, our ethereal double: Khaibit. (Read my book: Metaphysics Terminology). The Egyptians believed in the power of the spoken word (because it is a vibration that reflects a thought already imagined before we verbalize) and

10

thoughts are energy. Notice a coincidence, we use the word to spell in English language, and the word spell is used in witchcraft. There is another word (which is also the magic formula abracadabra) which in Aramaic “abruq ad babra” means I create as I speak, this shows that, words have creative power. That is why magic relies heavily on spells and summons. Some authors point to a theory that Egyptian magic should only be practiced during the day, but I believe that this is not quite clear or should not be specified. For example, if you make a ritual or request addressed to a goddess Bastet or Auset (Isis), the time may be different from a ritual directed to Ra. Ra is a solar god, so it would make sense to practice a ritual following the phases of the sun (rising sun, to attract something to your life, half a day to strengthen something, or sunset to remove something from your life), a little identical to rituals based on lunar phases. We should not generalize, because some Egyptian spells have undergone changes over the millennia and have been adapted to modern times or syncretized with other rituals. When practicing the Kemetic tradition and the magical Heka practice, men will be a Shemsu (follower) and women known as Shemset. In ancient times, this term was applied to those who served in the royal house and followed the religious tradition.

The gods (Neteru) Here is a short introduction about the gods (Neteru in the plural), netjer in the singular. We may think that the Egyptians were pagans (multiple gods), but there are strong indications that they believed in a supreme god (it was Amun) and that all other deities (Neteru) were emanations of the same deity. However, there are other descriptions in ancient scriptures, saying that the absolute Divinity was Neberdjer and that "Amun" is just the name that humans used to describe this deity, just as we use the word "God" but that is a human term and not the real name of the divine essence itself. They are distinct aspects or rays, energies and vibrations but personalized as entities. The Hindu and African Yoruba religions have the same concept (Orishas for example, are representatives of a frequency band, a phalanx of entities). In Kemet, there was Neith, goddess of war and hunting, she used a bow and arrow. In Yoruba culture, we have the Orisha Ochóssi with a bow and arrow too, representing hunting, and the forest. We also have the Orisha Shangó which is equivalent to Amon, The Ifá spirit of the oracle is equivalent to Toth, Oshalá the creator god is equivalent to Ptah (creator), Oshum is equivalent to Hathor, Iansã is equivalent to Osiris (who guided the soul of the dead) and Eshú is equivalent to Seth. In theosophy, we have ascended masters of the great White Brotherhood in which each represents an energy ray, a color, and a specific frequency. I believe in a cosmopantheist vision, we are all an integral part of the divinity, of a conscious universe, in the universe there are still high and powerful spiritual entities that work in the construction of many worlds and assist in the evolution of beings. This doesn’t mean that there are several gods, but a huge family of beings who are part of the supreme divinity. In the Catholic religion, they mention "angels" that are divine emanations, it is a bit of hypocrisy that they criticize paganism but at the same time adopt some gods of other religions and name them as angels under other names. In addition to certain gods, they became demons (changing the names) and we have an example of the Greek god Phosphorus (Eosphorus) that they transformed into Lucifer (fallen angel). Note the similarity between the name Phosphorus and Horus (phosp + horus). What do you think from where the Christian religion copied the figure of angels with wings? Maat and Isis in Egypt were sometimes represented with

13

falcon wings, the wings symbolizing divinity (power of flight) but still symbolizing protective power. Then, repeating: Neteru gods are emanations / vibrations of the supreme deity, as Orishas in Umbanda, they are divine energies and cosmic energies. The Egyptians represented them with different animal aspects, but this is symbolic, it doesn’t mean that they had this appearance. They are sacred aspects of these animals or aspects of characteristics that we can incorporate in us (shamanism is similar). Anubis had a jackal's head, he judged the souls of the dead, notice that jackals used to walk near the graves, in addition it is still a reference to the constellation of Great Dog / Canis major, where is Sirius. Thoth was sometimes represented as a baboon, because they are clever, in addition to being the first to receive the rays of the sun, they open their arms at sunrise and the Egyptians saw this as a sign of sacred worshiping of the sun. The most common image of Thoth is the head of an ibis bird, which was considered a sacred bird, it ate grasshoppers, insects or snakes that could be poisonous to humans in the event of a bite.

Kemetic Astrology: You will find contradictory information if you search for Egyptian astrology on internet. For example, Capricorns born between December 22nd and January 19th: some indicate that their Egyptian sign would be Amun-Ra, others say Anubis. In fact, they both are wrong, the real sign is Khnum (which also resembles a ram, but is associated with Capricorn). Such errors can cause very large changes in the interpretation of the individual's personality and in the event of any ritual or invocation you would be invoking the wrong deity. There were different dynasties in Egypt and there may be different horoscopes. A better known representation of the stars and signs is the bas-relief known as "Dendera Zodiac" which was carved on the ceiling of the pronaos (or door) of a chamber dedicated to Osiris in the temple of Hathor of Dendera, in Egypt. He is currently on display at the Louvre in Paris. But as there are some engravings with a Greco-Roman aspect (Taurus, Aries, Scorpio), some believe that the Egyptians were inspired by the zodiac of other cultures including the Babylonian one (MUL.APIN clay tablet with zodiac signs). The Sumerians were the first to apply myths to constellations and astrology. They has described the 12 signs of the zodiac. The Egyptian calendar was solar, like that of the Mayans but the Egyptians were also based on advances on the banks of the River Nile. There was a planting period, a flood and harvest period. A week had ten days, a month consisted of 3 weeks and a season had 4 months. The Egyptians realized that the floods of the river Nile coincided with the helieia birth of the star Sirius (Sopdet), which is in the constellation of the Great Dog. According to this calendar, the year was divided into 12 months of 30 days plus 5 special days to honor the gods Horus, Set, Isis and Osiris. The Egyptian New Year (Wep Ronpet) begins between the last week of July and August 1. It is not easy to set a specific date because it varies each year depending on the position of Sirius (Sopdet) in the sky. The New Year lasts for one day but the next 5 days referring to Nut's five children are also epagomenic days. In addition to being the brightest star in the sky, Sirius was important to the ancient Egyptians for some other reasons too. The power behind the sun was

17

considered. The sun kept the physical body alive and Sirius kept the spiritual body alive. Sirius was associated with Isis, the mother goddess of the earth, who is part of the trinity of Egyptian mythology. The Great Pyramid of Giza is said to have been built in alignment with Sirius. Some festivals and rituals followed the lunar phases. I like to study occultism and Egyptian mythology in old books (and I compared several books) I found this table of astrological correspondences: You can trust, which is the correct list: Born Between: August 23 to September 22: Tehuti (Toth). September 23 to October 22: Maat. October 23 to November 21: Wadjet November 22 to December 21: Mut. December 22 to January 19: Khnum. January 20th to February 18th: SHU. February 19 to March 20: AST or Auset (Isis). March 21 to April 19: Ausar (Osiris). April 20 to May 21: Ptah May 22 to June 20: Heru (Horus). June 21 to July 22: Khepera. July 23 to August 22: Sekhmet. Some esoteric sites have names of different deities (Neteru), remember that Kemetic astrology is thousands of years old, some books in the West have been poorly translated in addition the names that we know popularly from the Egyptian deities were adapted by the Greeks. We know Horus, Isis, Anubis among others, but these names were westernized as they are not in the original kemetic language. Anubis would be Anpu, Osiris would be Ausar or wsjr, Isis would be Auset or AST, Horus would be Heru and so on. Does the phonetics of the name make a difference? Of course, sounds are mantric vibrations, they emit frequencies when invoking a deity and pronouncing the wrong intonation of his name. What do you think will attract? Neter = A God. Neteru (plural, gods).

18

Now I will describe the personality of each sign depending on the Egyptian deity. In order not to make the text too long (with dozens of pages) I have decided not to describe the mythology, that is, the life of the deities, I will focus only on the personality of the sign.
