Apple iBooks Author Competition - 10 Sept Students experienced a virtual race simulator using Apple Devices. The shortest time was 1min 34 secs clocked by WONG YANG PING (RMIT). He won an iPad Retina (4th Gen) Wi-Fi 16GB sponsored by Sapura Synergy Singapore Pte Ltd
Samsung Digital Art Workshop & Competition 18 Sept
Apple iBooks Author is an e-book authoring application that lets you create visually sumptuous books that incorporate images, video, embedded web widgets and other trimmings. During the workshop conducted by Sapura Synergy Singapore Pte Ltd, students tried their hands at creating their own e-books. The winners are: 1st Prize - Jack Foo Yi Jun (UOL) 2nd Prize - Alphonso Ngiam (RMIT University) 3rd Prize - Lynn Choo (UB) Consolation Prizes - NurAin (UB) Consolation Prizes - Vaynii Satish (UB)

Our students had the opportunity to experiment with creating their very own digital masterpieces on Samsung tablets during the Samsung Digital Art Workshop & Competition. Some very creative artworks were submitted for the chance to win the grand prize of a Samsung Galaxy Note PRO (12.2� display) sponsored by Samsung Asia Pte Ltd. Makers’ Meet Up / Maker’s Fest Finale - 1 Oct
This month-long festival was launched with the workshop on Apple iBook Competition and followed by Samsung Digital Art Workshop and many mini booths held at various venues in SIM. Noteworthy booths include: ◆◆ e-Info Roadshow where Student Ambassadors demonstrate the usefulness of using e-Resources for their research ◆◆ Apple Digital Gaming where the highest scorer won a iPad Mini ◆◆ CADAQ 3D Scanning where you experience full-body scanning ◆◆ Star Wars Photo Booth by 501st Legion Singapore Garrison
The festival’s closing night featured Makers’ Meet Up organised by William Looi, founder of SG Makers with a line up of activities, five Maker Plenary talks and prize-giving ceremony. SIM Library got on the #selfie bandwagon by organising its own Instagram selfie competition in April. Students were encouraged to take selfies within the library premises based on a few themes, for a chance to win gift vouchers. WEARABLE TECH
In our previous issue, we featured technology to make 3D printed food such as hamburger and chocolate. The idea seems a bit far-fetched, don’t you think? How about a more realistic idea: wearable technology. Google Glass, Apple Watch and the latest FitBit, which was recently introduced by SAF for our NSmen are some of the wearable technology in the market. Are you ready for the future? Besides just telling time, you can answer calls, receive and send messages, track your all-day activity, listen to music directly on Apple watch, check the weather, monitor your favourite stock and the list goes on.
