It’s finally spooky month and whether you love it or hate it, you are sure to be bombarded by spooky builds on your favorite social media sites. Give the crowd a fright and create your own terrifying haunted houses!

Paranormal Stuff Pack brought with it the ability to create an actual Haunted House in the Sims 4. With this spooky new lot type, Sims will gain assistance from friendly ghosts like Guildry or be haunted by other not-so-friendly entities with this spooky new lot type.

Sure, you can simply change the lot type of your current home to the Haunted House Residence, but where is the fun in that?

If you want to create the scariest house possible this Halloween season, we have some tips that can help!

When creating a haunted house in The Sims 4, two things that can help make it memorable...

Choose a Spooky Location:

Where you place your haunted house is as important as the items within..If you own the Vampires game pack, you may want to consider building a home in Forgotten Hollow. The mist-covered landscape of Forgotten Hollow is the perfect setting for a haunted build, and the threat of evil vampires lurking in the shadows outside your front door waiting for an opportunity to suck your blood makes it even creepier.

Add Some Lot Traits:

The Haunted House lot type is only one of the ways you can make your house creepy in the Sims 4. Lot traits can also help you create a home that has Sims running for the Hills.

You can choose traits that make life in your haunted residence even harder. The traits below work well…

Cursed: Things just seem to go wrong here.

Get Inspired:

Finding inspiration for your haunted house is a must. Browse sites like Pinterest, or do a Google image search for haunted houses to get an idea of what you want to build. If you are the type that likes to make homes using floorplans, look for plans of old, Victorian houses for inspiration.

Gremlins: Stuff on this lot breaks every night.

Creepy Crawlies: The name says it all, better arm yourself with some raid and rat traps.

Vampire Nexus: Vampires are drawn to this lot and are more likely to visit.

With these rules in mind, you are ready to start creating your creepy anode… Don’t be scared to experiment with different items, colors, and shapes to make this home as spooky as possible.

Size Doesn’t Matter:

You do not need to create a mansion for your build to be scary. In fact, even a tiny home can be terrifying. If you are not experienced in building, start small. The key to creating a haunted house is to utilize the tools available to make it spooky. The new pond tool used with dark water and some crocs is a great way to add some fear to the front yard. Crack, stains, and other items found in the build buy catalog can help you create a house that will have Sims running for the hills of Henford.

The Color Scheme Will Set The Scene:

When you think of a haunted house, what colors come to mind? While haunted houses do not need to be dark and gloomy, a muted color scheme helps. Look around Forgotten Hollow, for example. Vlad’s mansion is dark and dreary and looks like it holds secrets within its walls. Mimic this look on your own house, and your Sims will be hiding under the covers in fear.

A Closed-Off Floor-plan is Far Creepier:

Haunted houses tend to be older homes, usually from the Victorian era and style. These homes, while possibly updated today, tend to have a more closed-off floor plan. Each area of the house is a separate space and colors change and shift throughout the home. . A closed-off floor plan helps make a home spooky because you never know what is behind that wall or around that corner.

Use Debug To Add Grunge:

The debug catalog in The Sims 4 is an amazing tool for building any type of structure. You can access debug items in the Sims by entering the following into your cheat console (opened by pressing ctrl + shift + c)

bb,showhiddenobjects and bb.showliveeditobjects

You can then access a plethora of new items by searching the term “debug” in the search bar at the bottom left of the build buy menu.

*Note: TwistedMexi has a fantastic mod that puts debug items right in your regular catalog. The Better Build Buy mod has a learning curve, but once you are used to it, this mod makes life so much easier and objects more accessible. Be sure to check out this and other mods by TwistedMexi today!

Use items from the regular catalog and the debug menu to add grunge to your haunted house. Cracks on the walls, stains on floors, and creepy dolls sitting in a corner can all help you to create a

terrifying environment for your Sims. Explore the debug menu and find some new and exciting items for your haunted house, but be warned, you will get lost in this catalog for hours on end.

Luckily, the Sims 4 Build Mode makes creating a haunted house super easy. Utilize all the amazing tools available within the game to build a spooktacular haunted house this Halloween.

Just remember, the most crucial part of building a haunted house in The Sims is to have fun…After all, that is what Halloween is all about!
