THE BOSTON SCHOLARSHIP
REQUIREMENTS
The Simmons University Boston Scholarship is a competitive merit award that recognizes students from Boston public high schools and charter schools who have attained academic excellence.
As an institution deeply committed to the city of Boston, Simmons University strives to provide opportunities for local high school students to achieve success at the college level and beyond. Students who meet the following criteria are invited to apply for the Boston Scholarship:
The Boston Scholarship is a four-year, fulltuition scholarship. Once at Simmons, recipients must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and live on campus during their first and sophomore years. Learn more at simmons.edu/ bostonscholar.
• Currently attend a Boston public high school or Boston charter school. • Have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (re-calculated). • Students will not be required to submit standardized test scores. For those choosing to submit test scores, a 21 or higher is recommended on the ACT and a 1080 or higher is recommended on the SAT. • Have demonstrated creativity, engagement, global perspective, leadership, resiliency, or other qualities indicative of the ability to contribute to Simmons’ diverse community.
APPLICATION PROCESS The application consists of a nomination letter, essay, and an on-campus interview. Part I: Nomination Letter A student’s nomination letter should come from a guidance counselor, college counselor, community advocate, headmaster, or teacher. Students may also choose to nominate themselves. The letter should include the reason why the nominator feels the student should receive this scholarship and the impact such an award would have. Part II: Essay An additional supplement is required in the form of an essay. Students can find the prompt on simmons.edu/bostonscholar.
Part III: On-Campus Interview Qualified scholarship applicants will be invited via email to schedule an on-campus interview. Interview days are typically held during February winter break.
