Supported JLL as a ‘White Label’ resource to help the client understand the global food service market in B&I across 14+ locations worldwide including service expectations, culture, trends, cost of living, housing costs, average earnings and food pricing. We presented with JLL the findings to the client group enabling them to make decisions on what the future food service model should be, taking into consideration important nuances from location to location.

Client was seeking to reinvent the hospitality experience at their new Manhattan HQ and did not have the inhouse expertise to navigate the process. 4xi coached the client through educating the executive team on the business, the strategy of selecting the right partner, reviewed and guided the design of the new space, then worked on the transition plan to ensure the client opened all services flawlessly. The result an improved employee experience on time, and within budget.

As subject matter experts in the “away from home” market, the 4xi team supported the client group in defining where they are today, what gaps exist between their competition, and opportunities for reinvention and growth. 4xi assisted the client in understanding the current market landscape, competition, operational delivery models, and financial constructs. Working with client on reinventing proposition and go to market approach across every aspect of their business: from their branding, their story, presentation, website, proposal materials, to coaching their growth team. Established target to grow 20% year on year for the next 4 years and to build their business by 2X in that time. In addition to top-line growth helping them navigate the middle of the P&L and gain efficiency through smarter financial constructs and leveraging supply chain efficiencies.

4xi worked with two partners to bring them together in a more powerful combined collaboration. One partner, a facilities maintenance services firm specializing in maintaining dispersed locations. The other, a technology partner with an auditing quality assurance app which allows clients to monitor their services with technology vs manually. Combined, 4xi helped them architect a Maintenance as a Service (MaaS) offering that reduces reactive work orders by up to 12% and reduces cost by up to 37% through predictive maintenance.

PETER ROLES After 35 years of working in remote sites, some more remote than others, it is interesting to see how the workplace has evolved. There are obvious differences between each work sector such as military, oil & gas, and mining not only in terms of costs and budgets but the expected experience as a result of the camp management services.

GARY MACKAY With 25 years in the global remote site business, in operations, Gary has trod a similar path. Over his time in the business, he has seen how expectations of not only clients, but employees has evolved more than ever before. it’s not just so simple as providing a job, a bed and a pay packet, there’s much more to it as employees are seeking a better experience, opportunities for social interaction, even opportunities for personal and career betterment whilst away from home in remote lands.

We believe the need to enhance this experience is more important now than ever before as recruitment and retention is so more important and the costs of getting it wrong can be substantial. The overall work experience has a direct impact of productivity and work performance, and as organizations strive to build and elevate their brands and corporate responsibility in every aspect of their businesses including looking after their people and being an employer of choice. Over the course of our experiences, we realized that there are sometimes substantial inconsistencies in the services on offer to Clients. This was not so obvious in my early years as peaks and troughs in the standards was accepted as being part of the remote experience, but over the past 10 years this has changed and now Clients expect more quality and consistent services, and quite rightly.

REMOTE SITES + International Support Services Provider SECTOR: CHALLENGE:

Military, Mining, Construction, Oil & Gas Scope Compliance

As the internal operations advisor/auditor we visited all sites globally and checked the services provided to the client against what was shown in the Scope of Work. It was the case that in the majority of the sites that the standards were not in line with the SOW and/or international requirements and standards. When reported to the services provider, the common question asked was “Did the client mention it?” If my answer was no, then nothing would be done to tackle the issues of noncompliance. In other examples, the client would ask for a copy of our internal report and often ask us to walk through our findings with them. Clearly this level of visibility put more pressure on the company to comply but not always. The lack of fixing the issues resulted in an ongoing discord between the parties, or at worse the contractor getting fired.

Either way, not the ideal outcome for either party. At the end of the day, all the client wanted was to get the issues fixed and for them to be reassured that they were getting the quality of services and outcomes that they were paying for. In addition to our audit and support services, our partnership with MyFieldAudits gives us (and the client) real time access to real time performance data and metrics to always ensure compliance, no matter how dispersed or distant the operations.

REMOTE SITES + NATO Military Camp Services SECTOR: CHALLENGE:

Military Scope Compliance

Managing a major contract in a war zone country and feeding up to 8,000 NATO troops. The Statement of Work was extremely detailed and very precise. NATO had a company working as the go between checking service delivery levels and compliance and that the SoW was followed to the letter. Every SoW item was checked daily for compliance and a very much “Gotcha” approach taken with often serious financial penalties levied if there was one salad missing from the extensive salad bar, or a cook was 5 minutes late for duty, or anything that wasn’t in full, 100% compliance. Now although at 4xi, we believe that compliance is good, we also believe in creating guard rails and focusing on the outcomes rather than just necessarily the inputs. We would argue that the most important things to measure are such things as (in food as an example): ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪

Participation levels (attractiveness of the service vs. alternatives) Customers Served per Minute (Speed of Service) Food wastage (quality of food) Incremental retail spend (appropriateness of offering) Customer feedback (real time feedback)

Supporting a large “Top 10” consulting firm seeking expertise in the Remote Site & Mining sector, we were engaged specifically for the reinvention of six legacy camps in Russia. 4xi helped them understand the internal management structure required to self-operate the camps, the range of services to be provided, the staffing schedule for each camp, costing parameters, and KPI’s to measure success. We are in the process of launching a team and service dedicated to this area of expertise.

With 10,000 personnel, this copper mine, one of the largest in the world required a review of the quality of work experience due to recruitment, retention, and absenteeism issues. Focused on accommodation, food, leisure and retail opportunities and on the employee experience to drive retention and productivity including introducing an English as a Second language course over multiple months to help personal development, career progression, and retention.

A rolling pipeline construction over 2,000 miles in Eastern Australia. Full camp management: accommodation, food, and life support services. Modular, mobile buildings and infrastructure with the capability to move the camp as the pipeline construction progressed. This is one of many examples of construction camps to support civil engineering projects including the rebuilding of post war Iraq.
