OF

FISH

FISH divides its 90 freshmen and 18 staff into four subcommittees that handle all programs from Run the Ramps to Kyle Field Day and MSC WAVES. The four committees are Service & Hosting, Development, Kyle Field Day, and Donations & Marketing.

Service & Hosting is responsible for organizing weekly service at places such as Jones Elementary, Brazos Valley Food Bank, Headstart and many more places we have the privilege of serving at. They also host the annual leadership conference, MSC WAVES, which has just recently had its third anniversary, and proven to be a very powerful and influential seminar on what it means to be a servant leader.

Development is a sub-committee responsible for organizing Run the Ramps, a 5K fun run through Kyle Field, as well as FLO Bowl, a fall powderpuff and cheer tournament for all FLOs on campus. They also run all necessary events within the organization itself and plan profit shares and fundraisers.

Kyle Field Day is the signature program of MSC FISH and requires its own committee to handle all things

PROGRAM

DESCRIPTIONS

MSC WAVES & KIDS AGAINST HUNGER One of the pillars of Memorial Student Center Freshmen in Service and Hosting (MSC FISH) is leadership. We strive to develop all of our members professionally and equip them with the skills to go out into the real world as leaders. This applies to our Freshmen general members and even all the way up to our Junior Chair. MSC FISH has its freshmen members put on multiple large-scale events in order to teach real-world, applicable skills. One of these large scale events is known as MSC WAVES. Like a drop of water in a pond causing the water to ripple out, MSC WAVES strives to develop and enhance the leadership skills of the attendants and teach them how they can ripple their servant leadership skills out to the people and world around them. Within the conference there is an opportunity for networking through staff facilitated group discussions, where attendants can make longlasting connections along with developing or challenging ideas they already hold. What makes these leaders unique, however, is the fact that they become servant leaders. Always keeping the thought of others in their mind, they are able to make decisions that

- CHRIS WALKER, DEVELOPMENT EXECUTIVE Run the Ramps is a 5K that MSC FISH puts on through the concourses of Kyle Field. We are fortunate enough to host one of the two runs that go through Kyle Field, the football stadium of Texas A&M. By putting on this program, we hope to bring awareness to living healthy lives and getting active, while also promoting our value of service. Our general committee members have the chance to work on marketing and professional skills such as contacting donors, such as Smoothie King or KIND Bar, to secure donations or creating new ways to market the event. This is the third year that Run the Ramps will be held and each year we hope to change it and grow it in some way. Whether that be to incorporate a fun run for families to get out a spend time together or to change our marketing tactics to reach a wider scope of people, Run the Ramps is one of our most flexible, always-changing programs. We want to offer people the opportunity to experience Kyle Field in a different atmosphere from a typical football game and to just have a good time with their friends or families. As people take part in the run, they can see the benefit of living an active, healthy life while also being able to incorporate service into that life. The money we raise from Run the Ramps goes strictly to Kyle Field Day, our other one day service event in Kyle Field, and we use these funds to contact more booths to come in and represent their service goals or to fund various entertainment sources or anchor projects. Run the Ramps is a fun way to spend a Saturday and be active while also learning the importance of service and how we can help those all around us to better the community.

KYLE FIELD DAY Kyle Field Day is a one day service event held at Kyle Field in April. The mission of Kyle Field Day is to connect Texas A&M students and the Bryan/College Station community with service organizations from not only on and off campus, but also national and international organizations to complete impactful, hands-on service projects for the missions of the organizations. With an expected 3,000 participants and 50plus service booths, Kyle Field Day has a widespread impact. On Kyle Field Day, participants will walk into the concourse of Kyle Field and see it lined with booths with every kind of project they can think of. These projects range from tying blankets to donate to impoverished elderly people, to building benches for a special needs camp, to writing letters to the troops, to putting together comfort bags for patients undergoing chemotherapy. In just a couple of hours, each participant can impact more people than they could ever imagine. Along with a wide variety of service opportunities, attendees can participate in yells led by our Yell Leaders, take pictures with Reveille, play games and watch performances from groups like Apotheosis and Fade to Black. The goal of this day is to bring Bryan-College Station together as one family to impact the lives of thousands.

"It is a representation of what MSC FISH does all

throughout the year in one day. It's just the

perfect way to end the year of FISH. This day

brings together thousands of people that all want

to do one thin: serve and love people. The energy

on that day is electric and gives me goosebumps

thinking about it, everyone there is so happy to

share their service and you really can't help but

be happy, too." - Kacy Rowley, Assistant Director

FLO BOWL FLO Bowl is an annual powder-puff football tournament and cheerleader competition where the girls of each FLO play against each other while the guys of each FLO go head to head in a cheerleader halftime dance routine. This is the first major program that MSC FISH puts on in the school year and is a way for the freshmen to learn how programming runs in a fun and casual environment before the major program season comes around. This year we have pushed for a harder implementation of service into FLO Bowl and worked on a sports equipment drive with Recycled Baseball/Sports Equipment (RBI).

I chose for us to work with them because of the recent

damages in Houston from Hurricane Harvey and the need

for people to feel normalcy again. Sports are an amazing

method of community building and especially powerful for

children, but for these sports events to happen they need

equipment. This drive hopefully created the presence of

service, as this is the basis of our organization, and become

more known by the FLOs so donations can grow from year

to year. - Daniel LaCour, Assistant Director
