Programme design by Simon Lee and printed by E & E Plumridge Ltd

Linton Bookfest is fantastic for kids who love books. And it’s just as great for kids who DON’T love books… yet! We’ve lined up lots of exciting free events for our 7th festival – come and have fun! Anna McMahon, Festival Director

A Word from our Honorary Patron, Helen Moss It’s my great pleasure to welcome you to Linton Children’s Book Festival, 2018. The two-day programme features an outstanding line-up of authors, poets, illustrators, translators, photographers and story-tellers. With established favourites, diverse voices and exciting new talent, there is something for everyone, from pre-schoolers and their families to younger teenagers. This year our theme is Earth Stories. Many of the talks and activities explore the wonders and challenges of the fast-changing world around us, and our place within it. So, come in, make yourself comfortable and join us for a celebration of books, reading, and stories in all their forms. All the events are free. And with delicious refreshments, drop-in crafts and eco-activities to keep you entertained between talks and workshops, why not stay all day? One of the things that makes Linton Children’s Book Festival so special is that it involves so many members of the community. As you can imagine, planning and staging an event of this scale and quality requires a huge amount of dedication, hard work and enthusiasm. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank ALL the amazing volunteers who make this impossible feat possible. You are the heroes of this story.

IN-SCHOOL EVENTS Ahead of the main festival weekend, we have sponsored author visits to each of the four schools in Linton. Our aim is to provide enriching experiences that instill a love of books, inspire new audiences and encourage the exploration of new ideas.

Dave Cousins

Linton Village College Author & illustrator Dave Cousins shares hilarious tales of a writer’s life with LVC’s Y7 students and Y6 pupils from local primary schools. There’ll be plenty of laughs and probably a good deal of clowning around, but also an important message: everyone has a story to tell. Dave will be returning to perform and provide a workshop during the festival weekend.

Eboracum Baroque Linton Infant School

The musicians of Eboracum Baroque bring to life Jessica Courtney-Tickle’s picture book The Story Orchestra, based on Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Children will be enchanted by music played on traditional instruments, and will have the chance to create their own musical storm using “body percussion”! This visit is generously co-sponsored by Linton Youth Music.

Marion Leeper Granta School

Katie Dale

Linton Heights Junior School Author of Mumnesia, The Never-Ending Birthday and the popular Fairytale Twists series, Katie Dale will spend a day at The Heights with pupils in years 3, 4 and 5. Former actress Katie will involve the children in her entertaining interactive presentations which include quizzes, games and storydevising. Plenty to get everyone’s creative juices flowing!

Using multi-sensory resources created by Bag Books (www.bagbooks.org) Marion will share her story-telling magic with students at the Granta Special School. Marion has been performing locally since 2003. She is a key member of Cambridge Storytellers, and was named the first Bard of Cambridge, 2016-17.

Brian the Bookfest Lion

Linton Playgroups We’ll share special storytimes with some of Linton’s youngest booklovers, and Brian the Bookfest Lion will be there to lend a paw!
