1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them? Colour - Before this module I thought I was pretty confident when it came to colour but in the workshops with Lorenzo and Mike I learnt that you canʼt just print any colour “willy nilly” Iʼve learned what to consider when sending something to print. Iʼve learned these mostly by making printing errors but making mistakes is the best way of learning. I consider this a skill because itʼs something I can take on board in future modules.
2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process? Before this module I was pretty confident with type and layout. I considered it to be one of my main strengths. But after sessions with Graham and Lorenzo, I feel like I am constantly learning new techniques and gaining more knowledge. New knowledge helps me develop these skills further and incorporate them into my design work. I have taken what they have taught me on board when designing things such as my poster and my bottle labels and thought about the print considerations before pressing the print button.
3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these? 1.Layout – I think the layout of my design is strong and gets my message across clearly. 2.Logo development – Before this module I would never do more than 10 or so logos for a brief before choosing my final one. However, with the logo workshop with Fred I found myself doing hundreds (literally) This was a brilliant way of getting any idea on paper, which usually cluttered my brain. I could then pick out a favourite/most successful and develop it further. This helped me push my logo further but it also made me feel safe knowing that I had justified my logos with tons of backup work.
4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future? Lack of print process experimentation. This was down to poor time management. I was afraid I didnʼt have enough time to fully try different processes out so I just proposed them. Writing more action plans should solve this problem. Another thing was - Lack of dedication. I was motivated but didnʼt have the dedication to show it. I had big ideas and ended up half doing them because of lack of dedication.
5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these? 1.Get my concept off the ground faster. I restarted my brief at least 2 times this module, this meant I was already a few weeks behind when it came to designing. This lowered the quality and quantity of work significantly. If I get my idea rounded off sooner then I can move on to design and really focus on what I need to do. 2.Write more action plans – A huge weakness of this brief was that I wasnʼt writing enough action plans. This meant that I wasnʼt fully concentrated on what needed doing and by when. Next time I will write actions plans and cross things off as I go along. The journey of my design would become clearer this way. 3. Donʼt just learn what you are given. In other words LOOK AROUND and search for me. I only looked into things I was introduced to. This limited the processes I could work in and also affected the quality (Iʼm aware this is my own fault) 4.Try things out. Because I was late designing my actual products I was afraid I wouldnʼt have time to try things out. If I try things out next time I have more options and possibilities in my design. 5. Throughout this module I have learned the true importance of print and how it affects the overall look of your work. I know it sounds obvious, but if you have a really beautiful piece of layout, everythingʼs pristine and lined up and then print it on printer paper, it instantly cheapens the whole design and does not do it justice. I will try different stocks out and to not be afraid to try things out!
Overall this has been a weak module for me. I know Iʼm better than this which makes it ever the more frustrating. In hindsight I know I shouldʼve tried things out and got to know the processes inside and out. I will definitely be taking these on board, next module. 6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas: (please indicate using an ʻxʼ) 5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor 1 Attendance Punctuality Motivation Commitment Quantity of work produced Quality of work produced Contribution to the group

The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
