“Over the last few months, EU consumers have probably felt from time to time that they’ve been watching a kind of “magic trick”. They get the car and the kids back from the weekly food shopping, and turn on the TV to see images of demonstrating farmers. Their own wallets just got a lot lighter in the supermarket – more so than a couple of years ago – but the farmers’ wallets are apparently not getting any heavier. So where did the money go? There’s been a lot of talk in recent months about the food supply chain – the line of people stretching from the farmer in his field to the consumer buying a product in the supermarket. If prices paid to farmers are low while food prices in the shops are high, we potentially have a problem. Because although farmers get substantial help of various kinds from the EU, they basically make their money by selling what they produce. And we’ve seen problems in recent months. Following the now-famous spike of 2007, farmgate prices began to fall sharply as early as the second quarter of 2008. On the other hand, prices in the shops started to come down only recently. A Communication published this week by the European Commission sets out steps to help solve this problem and others in the food supply chain.” Read this entire new blogentry of Marianne Fisher Boel with the links to the communications published the 28 of October with proposals for concrete actions to improve the functioning of the food supply chain in the EU

We will be attending then new fresh produce trade fair in Madrid the coming week. Hence next week market info will be delayed. You can visit our partner Eurobanan in pavillon 3 Number 3E04 and 3E05 and 3F01

Transport prices goes up from the first of November.

Avocado:

Clemenules:

Few few available kgs of Bacon and the reason is to be found in July when lots of fruits fell of the trees due to the extreme heat .. From week 46-47 we expect the very first avocado Hass to be ready.

Arrufatina/Pons: Clemenules has been observed this week which is why in week 45 we consider the nules to be in season. The rest of the varieties will fade away and the only clementine onwards will be the clemenules.

Broccoli:

Corn:

Most have started and with good quality...

14x2 luxury flow will continue another 6 weeks

Capsicum:

Courgttes:

The season begins now with many kgs coming in and Holland selling their last peppers. The quality is excellent with thick skin and perfect color and prices goes up. Mix capsicum are available. Sweet bite are ready as well

Steady prices for the moment with excellent quality. Or what about tender baby squash in 500 g flow

Cucumbers: The actions last week with throwing away 30% of the cucumbes coming in had some effect and prices grew a little. However right now there are actually few cucumbers available and it seem that the plants are tired of producing so much so prices are going up since quantities goes down and demand is increasing, which has lead large private companies to search for the produce on the daily auctions. Egg Plants: Cauliflower: With film also, is starting slowly

Also egg plants experience a slight increase ion prices and the past weekend for the first time during this new season the processors had problems in finding goods for all the orders. Should continue to increase. Figs: few kgs available, but season will finish soon Kaki:

Terrible season for the Valencian growers. First they had the attack of the hawai fungus and then came the rain and later on the wind that has increased the damages of the normally excellent kaki. Its estimated that 10 million kg has been lost for these reasons. In sevilla and Huelva they have not had the fungus yet and the kaki evolves normally, and also worth to mention is that the growers in Andalucia actually tie the trees up with wire so that they do not soffer scratches from the leaves and leave these characteristic black marks . The sizes are much larger than in Valencia so for those who seek smaller sizes it will be another 2 weeks before the smaller Sharons are fully available. Prices has been steady but the tendency is that they will increase soon since demand gets bigger towards christmas and this year availble kg will be fewer.

Marisol: Almost all the marisol available will be gone during week 44 so there should be almost nothing left for week 45. The colour is very good any, almost as a clemenules. Oranges: Few kgs available due to rain last week in Andalucia and the high temperatures does that the fruit dont take colour. This week all europe have had difficulties in finding enough spanish oranges. There are fruits in the cold stores but they need at least a week to be totally degreened.

Sunday, November1 is national bank holiday (catholic). Since it falls on a Sunday they will postpone it to Monday and all warehouses are expected to be closed this Monday 2 of November

Piel de Sapo: Kaki Sharon From Huelva

Very few kgs left suited for export Plums: Quality goes down, as well as available quantities and prices will increase. Rasperry:

Kaki Persimon from Huelva

Rising production in Huelva, with good quality for the Glen Lyon variety and with problem in the Sugana, as it rapidly gets soft.

Lemon: Still few of large sizes and with good quality. There must be some kind of demand since the prices remain rather steady although more and more are offering new crop.

Satsuma Owari:

Grow

the few available kgs are provoking that prices continues high, even higher than clemenules, but the demand is also low so there might be a decline in prices.
