2015: THE START
OF A NEW ERA
N
ew Year, new magazine. After many months of planning, finally comes to light a project that started last July 4th. If I’m honest, at the start I was nervous about how people will react to the opening of a new Sims fansite - I didn’t know what to expect. But this uncertainty didn’t last long as the welcome couldn’t have been better. Undoubtedly, the people’s enthusiasm has been a great source of motivation to carry out this project. Our objective is to be able to publish a high-quality magazine that pleases all types of players: from those how spend hours and hour in the live mode to those who enjoy creating and driving their creativity to professional levels The start is never easy, even more when you have to start from scratch. Luckily, I’m not alone: I have the support of a great team of collaborators. They are Sims enthusiasts who like me, have all their illusion to this project and believe great things can be done. With no doubt they are the pillars of Sims Vita. But we want to go one step further. We want you to become part of this project so, together, we make Sims Vita a joint project of The Sims fans. Your ideas and work have a place in Sims Vita. Excited and proud of the result, we hope the Sims community welcomes Sims Vita as good as it has done up until now.

HOW TO CREATE CLOTHES WITH TRANSPARENCIES BY LUCIAP25

HOW TO CREATE CLOTHES WITH TRANSPARENCIES Welcome to a tutorial where you will learn how to create a clothing item with transparencies in a simple and easy way. First of all, I want to thank Ayla Perez for teaching me how to do this and helping me with this tutorial. You can find some great Sims 4 downloads, as well as a video tutorial in Spanish on how to creat transparent or semitransparent clothes, in her blog.
1.
Firstly we open, a photo edition program we feel comfortable using. I will use Photoshop CS6.
2.
We copy the background to a new layer (by clicking “Layer via copy”).
For this tutorial I will design a pattern with the background semitransparent and black polka dots on top. We open the image of the polka dots pattern we have downloaded from the Internet. With the magic wand tool we select the white background and fill it with black instead in order it matches the top’s background color (which as you will have deduced, will be black).
3.
6
We adjust the transparency of the layer (by doble clicking in the layer) to 25%.
4.
Now that we have our pattern created, we will use it to create a custom Swatch for the top we are about to create.
6.
We select the top we will retexture.
COLOR MAGIC
5.
We open up Color Magic (when I made this tutorial, I used 0.5.2 version - you can download the latest version available here), a program that enables us to create retextures for both The Sims 4 and the CAS
7.
It’s very important to change the name of the file. Here we also add our custom Swatch. Afterwards we click Finish.
demo. You must keep in mind that the packages for one game are not compatible with the other. In our case we will select The Sims 4.
We will open after the S4PE to export the .dds
7
EDITING THE TOP
8.
9.
10.
We open the top’s .dds file in Photoshop.
We select the top’s outline with the magic wand and copy it to a different layer.
12.
We then copy the selection to a new layer and erase this selection from the previous layer. Now, we drag the layer from the pattern we previously created into this document.
We unlock the background layer by double clicking it and then remove the content of this layer.
It’s very important to erase with the Eraser tool all the saw tooth edges the top will have by default since these will then appear in the game.
8
11.
We select using the Rectangular Marquee Tool the section of the top where we want to have the transparency.
13.
We adjust its size to the space available using “Free transform” and the Eraser tool.
FINAL RESULT
14.
Now we will proceed to change the texture of the top’s background in order it has a more realistic appearance. In order to do this, we create a custom pattern.
And here we have the final result – our custom top with transparencies!
We adjust its opacity to 50% in order the top’s shadows can be still seen.
15.
In order our transparency appears as such in the game, we must remove the alpha channel. To do so, we go to the Channels tab and eliminate Alpha channel. As you can see, the edges aren’t very smooth (they are still quite ragged). We can improve this with the rubber tool in Photoshop and lots of patience!
Once we have done that, we can save the file and import it to S4PE again.
I hope this tutorial has been helpful and that we all little by little easily manage to create our own clothes for The Sims 4.

BUBBLE EFFECT
PHOTOSHOP TUTORIAL
11
An easy and elegant effect suitable for your favorite Sims photos. Do you want to know how it’s done? Follow the steps then!
1. Create a new document of 1920x1200 in order to create our brush comfortably. I recommend you to use a white or transparent background since we are going to use dark colors.
12
2. We add a new layer and draw in a back circle on it with the help of a circular brush. The size is not very important but take care it’s not too big or too small compared with the size of the background.
3. With the help of the mouse right button, we click on our circle’s layer and select “binding options” (the first option on the menu) to edit the layer styles.
4.
5.
In the pop-up window select “Binding options” and change the fill opacity in “Advanced Blending” from 100% to 50%. You can modify these values slightly depending on your tastes, but I recommend you to follow suit this tutorial if it’s the first time you are doing something like this or you have little knowledge on Photoshop.
Without closing the window, go to the “stroke” option and change it to a size proportional to its size. In my case is of 15px, but if you haven’t used a brush of the same size as mine (437 px) try to make the outline look as similar as possible to mine.
After this step, the circle will appear a bit transparent as in my image.
Now you can click “OK” and close the “Layer Style” window.
13
6. In order to save our brush we only have to select the layer and go to “Edit” in the top horizontal menu and look for the option “Define brush preset” and click it.
7. A pop-up window will appear where we can give it a name. I’ve called it “bubbles”, but you can leave the predefined name if you wish. If you have saved the brush correctly, you can now close the document without saving.
14
8. Now open the image with our sims where we want to apply the effect and choose our brush from the brush display. The new brushes are usually found at the end, so I recommend you to start looking for it from the bottom. We select it and adjust its size according to our tastes.
15
9. Inside “Brushes” (Brush Presets) we will select and modify the following options: >“Scattering”: I recommend you to increase it to 1000%, check the box “Both axes” and increase “Count Jitter” to 10% for a better finish. >“Shape dynamics”: Set the “Size Jitter” to a 50% in order each bubble has a different size. >“Brush Tip Shape”: In order to avoid the flux is too dense, it’s convenient to use an appropriate “spacing”, for example, between 20% and 50%. These percentages may vary depending on the size of the brush, the size of the picture… even depending on your tastes!
16
10. Finally, create a new layer and (having selected a color of your preference) start using the brush we’ve just created as you would use any other brush. Don’t forget to select in Layer Style -> Blend Modes -> Overlay for a greater transparency and brightness!

ALFONSO PEKESIMS “Creative, perfectionist and someone who likes to help other, as you will see reflected in his work. But, above all and since the beginnings, Alfonso is a simmer at heart.
100
This is how Elvira, who together with Alfonso administrates pekesims. com, described his colleague. Surely she is one of the simmers who knows him better, though after this interview we hope to know a bit more about Alfonso and his experiences in the Sims world.
It’s great to build and see how little by little the idea you had is taking shape, I really like it!”
We know you love designing and building with The Sims. Which type of constructions you enjoy most making? Undoubtedly I enjoy creating all types of houses. One day I may create a modern and minimalist mansion and another day I just build a charming house full of old furniture with an overdone decoration. I suppose creating houses of all styles for all players is where the equilibrium lies. It’s great to build and see how little by little the idea you had is taking shape, I really like it!
From all of the creations you’ve made so far, which one you would pick as the best one? I can say with absolute certainty Metsä, the last world I created for The Sims 3. From the modeling of the terrain to the smallest details in a Sim’s biography, I enjoyed every second I spent creating Metsä. I took me months of hard work to create it, but the final result was worth it. The Sims 4 Building mode has brought tons of new tools that have made building much easier and user-friendly, but, is there some element you miss from The Sims 3? I miss being able to edit the terrain. Although it was a tool I didn’t use much in The Sims 3, I miss it. I don’t know the reasons why they
took it out, but I hope in the future they include it again. I also miss the Create a Style tool though not as much as I thought I would, but there are times where I think “Right how it would do well”. Apart from building, do you like to create sims? Strangely enough, it was not until The Sims 4 arrived that I liked to create sims. Before I hated the CAS - I found it boring. But now The Sims 4 CAS it’s so easy to handle and entertaining that it has made me go in and create sims simply for the pleasure of doing so. I love to trying to recreate real people. I can spend hours and not get bored, not even a little bit.

From July 28th to August 1st, Sims creators from all corners of the world met in the Electronic Arts studios in Redwood City, California, where they had the chance to try The Sims 4 exclusively before anyone else. To this event, commonly referred as Creator’s Camp, only a few fortunate simmers had the honor to attend it, and amongst them was Alfonso, the only member from the Spanish community.
102
How would you describe your experience at Creator’s Camp? It was a very enriching experience. I met people from all over the world which are passionate for The Sims - that was something you could sense. The atmosphere was great and we certainly learnt a lot from each other. Did the event go as you had imagined it would? Not at all! I was very nervous as I didn’t know what or who to expect at my arrival. But it has been more than a simple Sims event - it’s been a fantastic opportunity to meet people and make new friends. There
were at times where The Sims took a second place and we simply just sat around and chat, told stories, laughed... From what you experienced, what surprised you the most? EA’s campus definitely! I knew it was a good place to work at but, wow! It’s made up of various buildings, surrounded by gardens full of trees, connected by cobbled walkways. They have all kinds of facilities: a gym for employees, a huge cafeteria...even a Starbucks just for them! In the Maxis building, for example, in the entrance the lamp was a giant plumb bob. There are also tempo-

rary exhibitions about EA games (when I was there it was about Plants vs. Zombies). It’s a place where it must be a joy to work, even with all the stress I’m sure working on the gaming industry brings.
Finally, do you have any funny anecdote from the journey? Oh I have lots! I remember the 4 days we spent there, TheSimSupply, EnglishSimmer and I nearly died of cold. Our computers where located just below the air-conditioning duct and we were literally shivering while we were playing. But even so, we
didn’t lift our hand from the mouse no matter how cold it was hahahaha. I also remember I couldn’t stop laughing with TheNumberswoman, from The Sims Resource. It was an event full of laughter, we had a great time.

“The Sims has been present in my life since as far back as I can remember. The game has evolved at the same time I was growing, which makes The Sims not just another computer game. But it was not until four years ago that I decided to share my interest in The Sims with the rest of the fans by registering in ActualidadSims’s forum. Since then, I’ve learnt lots from other simmers and I’ve discovered numerous ways to enjoy the, as there is much more to it than just simply playing on the Live Mode. Though a few months ago I took a step further and decided to embark on a new adventure (which is probably madness, I know) called Sims Vita. With good expectations and, above all, eagerness to work hard, I hope to carry out this project successfully.”

I loved to recreate the stories I pictured in my mind, though I must say in many occasions they were quite crazy. As years passed, I started seeing the game with a more artistic perspective. LEGACY CHALLENGE WHAT IS IT
F
or those who don’t know anything about it, the Legacy Challenge is a challenge made by Pinstar, a featured simmer of the community, for The Sims franchise. You must create a sim and move him/she to the largest lot available, build a small house with the money you have left and start a new life from scratch. The Legacy founder must make renovations on the house, increase the family wealth and, of course, leave descendents so a second generation can take over when he/she dies. The main objective of the Legacy Challenge is to reach the 10th generation but following a set of rules and taking several decisions throughout the challenge, what makes us question: what type of Legacy I will live?
HOW TO START
THE EXISTENCY OF THE LEGACY CHALLENGE IS NO MORE THAN A REFLECTION OF THE POPULARITY IT HAS HAD OVER THE PREVIOUS OF GENERATIONS, AND AS COULD BE EXPECTED, THE CHALLENGE HAS ARRIVED 120
TO THE SIMS 4.
To start the Legacy you must move the founder sim to the biggest lot available (a 50x50 lot in Willow Creek). This lot will be already occupied, so you must go to the “MODO GESTIONAR BARRIO” and destroy the current home. Once you’ve done that, we move in the sim, buy the sculpture “Knight of the Octagon Table “and keep it in the family inventory. Think of this armor as a family legacy of the old nobility which must last until the last generation. After buying this armor, we will find ourselves left with 1800§, which we will have to manage properly in order we can buy the necessary objects that accomplish the basic needs of our sim.
SUCCESSION LAWS In The Sims 4 a new rule named The Succession Laws has been implemented. This rule enables you to pick which method you will use to choose the heir during the whole legacy. There exists three categories which have a series of options each, and you must pick an option from each category.
GENDER LAW
BLOODLINE LAW
HEIR LAW
Strict Matriarchy: The Founder must be female. Only girls are eligible to be named heir. Male children cannot, under any circumstance, ever be the heir to the next generation.
Strict Traditional : To be eligible to be named heir, a child must be naturally born from their previous-generation parents and be able to trace an unbroken bloodline back to the founder. Adopted children may never be named heir.
First Born: The oldest, by order of joining the family, eligible living child is named heir.
Traditional: Children who are naturally born from the previous generation are eligible to be named heir. Adopted children are ineligible to be named heir unless there are no naturally born children, at which point they become eligible for that generation.
Living Will: The eligible child with the highest friendly relationship score with their previous-generation’s parent will be named heir.
Matriarchy: The Founder must be female. Only girls are eligible to be named heir unless there are no female children, at which point boys become eligible for that generation. Equality: The Founder may be of either gender. Both boys and girls are eligible for the title of heir. Strict Patriarchy: The Founder must be male. Only boys are eligible to be named heir. Female children cannot, under any circumstance, ever be the heir to the next generation. Patriarchy: The Founder must be male. Only boys are eligible to be named heir unless there are no male children, at which point girls become eligible for that generation.
Modern: Both Naturally born and adopted children are eligible to be named heir. Foster: Children who are adopted are eligible to be named heir. Naturally born children are not eligible to be named heir unless there are no adopted children, at which point they become eligible for that generation. Strict Foster: Only Children who are adopted are eligible for the title of heir. Naturally born children may never be heir.
ONLY THOSE FORTUNATE ENOUGH WITH SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTICS WILL BE CONSIDERED HEIRS
Last Born: The youngest, by order of joining the family, eligible living child is named heir.
Merit: The child with the most fully completed aspirations will be named heir. If there is a tie, the child with the highest level in a single skill will become heir from among the children who are tied. Strength: The first born eligible child becomes heir by default‌ but the tile can be forcefully taken from them if an eligible sibling beats them in a fight. That sibling may have their title taken, (or taken back) if they lose a fight to another eligible sibling. Random: The title of heir is randomly selected from the pool of all eligible children. Every time the eligible pool changes size, The heir must be re-rolled using the new pool. Exemplar: At the beginning of the challenge, name a single trait. This trait must be one of your founder’s three traits.. Any eligible heir that has this trait will gain the title of heir. If a single generation has no children with this trait or more than one exemplar, follow the First Born rule. Democracy: The heir is chosen by your viewers/readers from among the pool of eligible heirs.

RULES
OF LEGACY CHALLENGE Thinks you should know before starting 1. Cheats/hacks/mods which give you an advantage other those who don’t use them are not allowed. Though cheats which fix game problems such as ResetSim or moveobjects are permitted. What respects mods, those which make the gaming experience more realistic such as having to fill the fridge with food may be used.
Completing the challenge without breaking any of these rules will provide you of a better gaming experience and a greater satisfaction when you finish.

events not to happen is part of the fun - although sometimes you succeed, there are times when you may also fail.
You can’t move in sims to the household with the exception of the husband or the wife. In other words, every person who is not a member of the family (with the exception of the spouses) won’t be allowed to move in to the Legacy residence. If an heir has siblings, these can either stay or move out, but once they do so, they won’t be able to move back in again.
3.
The descendants’ traits must be chosen randomly. In the Legacy Challenge official page you can find a random traits generator where you can obtain a trait for your new sim depending on his/her parents traits. You can try it here.
8.
The family Legacy must live in the same house during the 10 generations. During all this period of time, renovations such as building new facilities (swimming pools) or rooms are permitted (and encouraged). You are free to enlarge your home and buy as many objects as you wish.

5. 6.
Your sim will be able to use only ONE potion of youth during his/her lifetime (this also includes the milk from the cow plant). The lifespan of your sim must be set as “Normal”.
6. You won’t be able to change your sim’s aspiration once selected. The only exception is if this aspiration has been 100% completed.
FOLLOW OR NOT THE RULES IS ONE’S CHOICE ALONE. YOU ARE NOT FORCE TO ABIDE THE CHALLENGE RULES, BUT NOT DOING SO PROBABLY WILL MAKE IT LESS FUN AND ENTERTAINING.
7. You are not allowed to bring a sim back to life once dead. If you want one dead sim to live you will have to plead for his life using the death flower. On the other hand, if you cook Ambrosia, only the living can eat it.

DETAILS LEGACY CHALLENGE CONTINUOS UPDATING As expansion packs and game updates are released, the rules of the Legacy Challenge will change in order to incorporate the new options these bring into the game. In this way you can increase your final score once finished the challenge.
SCORING TABLE
The more you progress in the challenge, the more you will realise that all the effort put from the start was worth it.
In many occasions, when a simmer finishes the challenge, he/she completely forgets of doing the sum up of the points earned. It’s totally understandable! After all, many things have happened during the legacy and it’s difficult to remember all of them. In order to avoid this, Pinstar has created a table where you can note down the points you gain at the same time the legacy progresses. You can download it here. This is it! IF you consider yourself a great simmer, you must take this challenge. Reaching the 10th generation is not east and, of course, you won’t accomplish it in one week. But I can assure you all the effort and time will be worth it. Best of luck!
