GRAPHIC DESIGN PORTFOLIO by:Scott Singer
Sage Advice PEMF Design Challenge As a project that was created out of school it was definitely my favorite. The client I had was one of my friends that was starting her business. Solution She had wanted to start branding it so I started my developing a logo. As she is one of my friends I had worked closely with her to develop a design that fits her needs now and in the future. She had soon wanted more from an business cards, Ad’s, hats, and other forms of clothing.

development of typefaces this assignment was one of my favorite challenges. As a project that was developed fully in Adobe Illustrator and souly focused on the typeface that was chosen. Futura was chosen as the typeface to design a poster on. Solution
What had to be included was a brief history of the typeface of when it was created, date and what typographer had desgined it. There needed to be type anatomy included, such as Counter, hairline, and Apex. The alphabet shown in all caps, upper and lower case, numbers and a few glyphs.

Cirlce of Life Tour Poster Design Challenge Going into this project I was feeling overwhelmed. Before learning about Photoshop I had always had anxiety about the fact that I would need to use it one day. Doing this project it had showed that Photoshop is not as intimidating as it sounds. Developing this project was fun and also challenging. Solution The criteria I had to follow was to develop a tour poster based on a song that was given. The song I had was “I Can’t Wait to be King”. I wanted to include iconic imagery from the movie. The eye that is shown was completely designed using Photoshop, The claw marks were designed in multiple ways. I had drawn them up using Procreate on my Ipad, and then brought it over to Photoshop to add images of animals in Africa.

New Voice for Typographic Tradition Design Challenge As one of the projects that was created using Adobe InDesign it was definitely a challlenge. I was use to creating projects in Illustrator that learning a new program was hard. The assignment was to produce a typebook featuring a typeface. We had to use type heirarchy, the different weights, a color pallete to match the typeface. Solution I had created a book that is 16 pages long. The typeface that was chosen was Acumin Pro. The font itself has many typefaces, as shown in the book. Since the font can be used in a wide range of formats I wanted to create a simple style that showed the typeface and the many weights it had.
Bookcover Redesign Design Challenge The project was to redesign an existing book cover. I chose to redesign The Trials of Apollo, by Rick Riordan. The original design was designed to appeal the minds of children. I wanted to redesign the cover to better appeal to a larger audience, as readers from many age groups enjoy these books. Solution My process to produce this piece of work had multiple steps. I first started with creating mood boards that included color pallet, typography, design elements and inspiration. The next step was to create sketches these are thumbnail which show the layout of the design then moved on to refined sketches that showed color, the final design elements, and what the final layout would look like. The final steps were to create digital drafts and then the final design.
AIGA Poster Design Challenge The project was to design a poster for the AIGA contest. This was the first project that I had designed using Illustrator. The poster had to be designed on 11 x 17, with certain guidelines. There needed to be original content. All the elements needed to be fully designed in the program either using the pen tool to trace or, using the shape tool. The date of when the election would be. Solution My process to produce this piece of work had multiple steps. I had created multiple thumbnails that showed multiple different designs I could do. After the thumbnails there was the refined sketches that has color, final design elements and typeface choice. I had wanted to create something that was simple but yet get the message across of to go out and vote. I used red, white and blue as they are the colors of the flag.

Rare Spotlight Design Challenge The guidelines of the project was to create a magazine of our choosing. The topic I chose was to highlight what it is like to live with a rare disease. We had to include 2 spreads one that was a question and answer and one that was based on a persons experience. It needed to be 10 pages long, that is including the back and cover. There needed to be 2 ad’s one that is either made up or an already exciting and then one that was a ad of Johnson & Wales University. Solution My process to develop the project was challenging as I had never created a magazine before. I had wanted it to be a smaller part of a larger magazine on the study of rare diseases. I created my written content first as it was the majority of the magazine then started on creating thumbnails and refined sketches. Thumbnails showing the layout and possible design elements, and refined sketches that show the color pallet, final design elements, etc.
Flatbread Co. Menu Redesign Design Challenge Redesigning this menu was a challenge as it was one of the first projects that went into depth on the program Adobe InDesign. The requirements of the project was to redesign an existing menu into something new and different. The original content such as the logo, and dishes along with descriptions had to be the same. Solution The process in designing the menu was fun but also challenging. It was fun as I got to include elements from the restaurant itself like color or design elements. The challenging part was the process of developing a type hierarchy that would fit the design. I had first developed thumbnails that would show what design elements that I would use. After sketches were done I had started to develop digital drafts. With those done I had received a critiques on what to add or change.
