provided sponsorship through our alumni and friends of the Navigators so that we can invite 500 alumni for this lunch event at the Hilton Hotel. There is so much excitement and thanksgiving as we prepare for the event! You will get to hear of the Vision of the Alumni Ministry and the steps taken to help us achieve that. To date, we have set aside 20 tables for all our Nav fulltime staff to invite their alumni friends and another 20 tables have been booked by NavAlumni to invite their peers to this event. key positions of leadership in local churches and missions agencies. Their godly examples remind me of Paul’s words in 1Thessalonians 1:7,8 “ And so you became a model to all the believers. The Lord’s message rang out from you ...and your faith in God has become known everywhere.”

What is just as exciting is that
we will be having a book that will be given on the same date, featuring the Stories of 20 Alumni. They will tell of how various ones are making headway, in big ways and small, in labouring and helping others grow in the faith. We have contributions from all walks of life, from a taxi-driver to a senior officer in the civil service. Indeed I am often surprised at the amazing range of ministries in which our alumni serve as I respond to their invitations to speak in their churches. It is both staggering and uplifting. Besides those featured in last two issues and here, there are many others who came out from
One such example is our SP alumnus, Alex Lo. He was connected to the Singapore Christian Post and his story was featured in a write-up on 9th September under the caption ‘CEO Use Business Success To Serve God’(http://sg.christianpost.com/ dbase/ministries/1424/section/1.htm) A group of us from the Poly Chinese Navs attended the 15th anniversary celebration for Gospel Operation for Chinese Christians. We were pleased to see three of our own SP Chinese Nav alumni: Ming Hung, Yue Shu and Yueh Hwa. The former is now a lecturer at Baptist Theological Seminary and the latter two ladies are full-time staff in their respective
churches. Another surprise is to listen to our dear NUS Nav alumnus Oh Hwee Kiong share of his faith journey. Today, he, with his wife, serves in Cambodia with this organization.
congregations, yet is vibrant and zealous. Over at Nazareth BP Church, I was encouraged to see Francis Ng together with Boon Siong, likewise demonstrating a heart to serve and influence the people under their care as they provide key leadership in that At age 67, Shige Mori graduated church. with a Masters of Religious Studies from the Asia Biblical Theological Seminary. As a layperson, he runs his church - Japanese Christian Fellowship. I have the privilege of ministering to him for more than 10 years as part of our Tuesday Men’s Group at the Botanic Gardens. He is a man who has a big heart for missions. It never fails to amaze me that at his age, he is still faithfully plodding on. Shige Mori and friends at his graduation
A month ago, I spoke twice on the topic of Mentoring, again at the invitation of two military alumni. Loke Wing Kong and his family worship at Hope Sanctuary. Although he is a layperson, he oversees the running of the church. This is a small church with both English and Chinese

While preaching at Grace Assembly of God with Christ’s Ambassadors, and Christian Care and Concern Centre, the feedback response has always been ‘we appreciate the exhortation on discipling/mentoring especially when it is made practical and shown to be applicable in an ordinary way with people.’ The alumni ministering in the various churches strongly affirm that the basics and disciple-making skills learnt in their earlier years have been fundamental in keeping them going and growing. There is no substitute and helping people one on one is still the best way to see transformation in the lives of their people.
They are ordinary men and women like you and I who seek to be a voice for ‘disciple-making to the nations and generations’. Their desire is to advance the Gospel of Jesus by raising labourers living and discipling where they are, exemplifying 1 Thessalonians 1:5 “You know what manner of men we proved to be among you.” Their lives are living testimonies of the power of the Gospel at work in them.
two major events for the alumni this year (300 for Mar and 500 for Nov) to challenge our alumni once again to re-capture the vision! We are trusting God to raise 100 alumni to return to the task of disciple-making right where they are. May you be one of them!
The NavAlumni Ministry is all about re-kindling this vision of oneon-one so that our alumni can be effective to live out the Gospel right where they are, within the community God has placed them. For some of you, it means to start with a pause - to find out where you are:
