AND RESTART‌

One of the most desired moments is the arrival of the summer season and of course, of the holydays. It is a pleasure to be able to disconnect for a few days and just fill them (and fill us) with many different things. Relaxation, sun, beach, or mountain, forget the phone and the computer and enjoy a good book under a good shade. What else can we ask for?

6 | SINGULARESMAG #6

Of course, in Singulares, not to be outdone, we’re also going to give a small break before starting to prepare everything that will come with the new year, which I assure you is going to be very interesting. But we are not going to anticipate events. Singulares Magazine wanted to make to all of you who follow us a little gift that will help you to spend the month of August in a different

way. We suggest that you do with us a tour that, without a doubt, is going to be refreshing and rewarding, a trip that we will lead by olive groves, pine-clad mountains, to end at the edge of the sea. Four summer houses that will leave you breathless, all of them very different homes but with something in common: they will make us forget our day to day and reboot..

COLD WHITE CHOCOLATE MASCARPONE CREAM WITH SUMMER FRUITS

PRODUCTION: OLGA FERNÁNDEZ. RECIPE AND PHOTOGRAPHY: MARTA FUERTES.

GENIUS LOCI CULTERY... FOR DESSERT

SINGULARESMAG #6 #5 | 35

INGREDIENTS · 250g of mascarpone · 200g of white chocolate · 1 vanilla bean · 75g of raspberries

36 | SINGULARESMAG #6

· 1/2 mango cut in thin slices (you can use any fruit in season) · Pistachios or other dried fruit in small pieces (for decoration)

PREPARATION METHOD 1 Put the white chocolate to melt in bain-marie. 2 Once melted mix with mascarpone (left at room temperature so it is creamier and easier to manage). 3 Open the vanilla bean and, with the help of a knife, remove the seeds. Mix with mascarpone and chocolate. 4 Share out the mixture in small glasses and save in the fridge to cool and provide consistency to the cream. 5 Jus before serving, garnish with the desired slices of fruit and small pieces of dried fruits. 6 Serve cold. Mixing the cream with the fruit will lighten the dessert but the taste of vanilla and chocolate will prevail.

LOOKING TO

Located in an area with a strong gradient, this country cottage of two floors in Granada has now a splendid view to the sky and the fields thanks to the intervention of his owner, a Belgian in love with the light and sun of Andalusia that made the total refurbish of the house in just a few months. The access to the house is through a central courtyard that works as a hall 42 | SINGULARESMAG #6

to the majority of the rooms of the cottage. Another essential feature of this house was undertaken in main floor when they eliminate partition walls to achieve a space the most diaphanous possible in the large kitchen area and living room. The house doesn’t have a hall as such, but it has a space enabled for reading and entertainment.

All the facing, made in smooth finish mortar, are another key of the project. Its continuity throughout the house and also in outdoors spaces makes this material a true protagonist.

46 | SINGULARESMAG #6

White walls, in addition to enhance the brightness of the house, guides the gaze outward. The use of neutral colours creates the sensation of more spaciousness. Carpentry, painted in graphite colour, is present in

all the ambiences and gives them visual and aesthetic cohesion. In fact, woodworking deserves a chapter apart in this refurbish, as the vast majority has been recovered and re used, and as well as been

notable for its functional design it stamps a modern style to the house decoration.

“SCRAPER AND BRUSH” DECO IN THE CAPE OF GATA We visit a house in an exceptional place, in which the owner has achieved a very effective and personal decoration with a very tight budget.

The origin of this story is Instagram. A few months ago, this application for mobile phones became a source of constant inspiration for lovers of decoration, among other things. This is where I discovered the house of Federico. Chance made me come to his profile and his photographs, among which I found one that powerfully attracted my attention: a beautiful cooler with blue doors was in the picture, typical of the kitchen of the 60’s and 70’s. So I decided to get in touch with him because I wanted to see more pictures of his house as I sense that it promised a number of decorative findings. And here they are...

The house is located in an exceptional settlement, within the natural park of Cape of Gata, AlmerĂa, in a small village called El Pozo de 72 | SINGULARESMAG #6

los Frailes. The house is new construction duplex consisting in two bedrooms, living room/kitchen, a bathroom, a small courtyard at the

entrance of the house and a large terrace that was covered with a rustic pergola “made with what they call here rollizos: natural unprocesSINGULARES SPACES

Most of the furniture of the house comes from flea markets of the area, pieces that the owner has been selecting with care and an excellent decorative criteria. In the hall you can’t ignore the blue re-upholstering sofa from the 60’s and the coffee table that Federico commissioned to 76 | SINGULARESMAG #6

a blacksmith. For its lid a demolition hydraulic slabs was reused; in this room there is also an original poster from 1947 of the fiestas of Almeria, as well as a poster of the Barcelona’ Sala Gaspar from Miró bought in Seville.

The built-in kitchen was done using a few doors from the 50’s kitchen of the grandmother of the owner. Turquoise tiles are hand made in Seville. The mentioned cooler comes from a flea market of the area: “It was painted in white and when taking away the many layers of paint its true blue colour came out. It just cost 30€!”, Federico tells me. There are some glass demijohns and an illuminated letter that he found in a container of work.

The stairway was plastered with Cole & Son “Woods” paper and a rope of boat replaced the original handrail.

In Cercedilla, one of the most beautiful spots of the community of Madrid, a private villa of the 70s has been turned into individual apartments of one or two bedrooms. The local is situated right in the middle of a mount, protected by oak and ash trees, in the heart of the Sierra de Guadarrama, less than an hour by car from Madrid and ten minutes walk from the nearest train station. When it comes to addressing the refurbishing project they respected the exterior architecture but they

100 | SINGULARESMAG #6

opted for claiming the open spaces, as if it were an urban loft. The rustic architecture, characteristic of the Sierra de Madrid, soon has been customized with a unique decoration. We can find everywhere rescued and recovered pieces by one of the owners of the house, Mara Matey, designer and Art Director in the world of cinema and advertising. With a mixture of vintage and country styles, furniture were combined with warm textures whose single vision makes us feel peace and quiet.

Casa Daniela is a beautiful villa located in the Cape of BarberĂa in Formentera. It is bordered by a forest and boasts breath-taking views of the rest of the island and Ibiza. When their owners, Jordi Canosa and Daniela Cavestany, acquired this 126 | SINGULARESMAG #6

land they immediately got in touch with architects David Canosa and Daniel Duch (www.arqvid.cat), who made them a proposal that perfectly matched with the idea of integrating the house in the natural environment. They enjoy spending time at SINGULARES SPACES

home: they welcome lots of friends, they like to organize dinners and almost every afternoon they plan special activities and very playful with their children.

All those plans are developed both outside and inside the house because this was the intention of the owners: create an open home where there were no differences between the inside and the outside. Already at the entrance there is a large window to see the trees and plants; the hall has been completed with the same finish as for the exterior of the house,

132 | SINGULARESMAG #6

as if it were part of the faรงade. In every end of the hall there are two doors that can be open for breeze to pass. In all the sliding doors curtains were added to provide privacy without losing the feeling of summer and freshness.

Daniela has strongly added a small decorative touch in each room and has left the rest to be integrated with the nature of the terrain and architecture. The high ceilings, the light flooded spaces and wood from the Iroko hovering in the marquetry of doors and windows, speak for 140 | SINGULARESMAG #6

themselves. There are also a few noted pieces designed in wood by Jordi Canosa, contributing to add personality to the rooms: the shelving of salon, the dining table and bathroom countertop. Most of the lamps come from the Philippines, from where it is native his mother, where now lives

his sister and part of his family and a place, in addition, that they tend to visit at least once a year.

We moved to the town of Lastra A Signa to discover Valdirose, a guest house located close to Florence, in a villa dating from the second half of the 19th century which has been recently restored by its owners, Irene and Paolo, who offer visitors a superb panoramic view of the Tuscan capital as a result of its strategic location at the top of a hill.

150 | SINGULARESMAG #6

Purchased in the 50s by her grandmother, for decades it was the family holidays house, a place that enjoyed its first owner the hospitality and whose granddaughter wants now to extend family know-how as well as the history of the place to each of its guests, thus returning to the splendour lived there in the past.
