Polystyrene COMPOSITION Polystrene is a versatile plastic polymer used to make a wide range of consumer products. It is made by polymerizing styrene. Styrene is a clear colourless liquid that naturally occurs in foods such as cinnamon, beef, coffee beans, strawberries and wheat. Polysterene can be made into a foam product called expanded polystyrene. Polystyrene plastic can be extrude, injected or blow moulded for the requird application. When in high temperature the material melts. Polystyrene can also be recycled into various differen titems.

APPLICATION Expanded polystyrene is used for thermal insulation, surfboards, automobile parts. For packaging such as CD & DVD cases, food packaging meat trays and egg cartons. Appliances such as ovens, refrigerators, microwaves vacuum cleaners and blenders. Electronics such as television parts computers and IT equipment. Medical equipment such as test kits, medical devices, perti dishes and trays.
EXPERIENCE This has been the most difficult material to work with. The glue couldn’t always hold the pieces together. In room temperature the plastic breaks when bent. But when heated with a flame it became soft and bent easily. I joined the forks and spoons like puzzle pieces and used a lot of bending to create a form that can hold the apples.
