FROM THE DIRECTOR And so, we wrap up the wildest year of theater any of us have ever seen or experienced (hopefully!). I broke an actor’s arm on stage once (he finished the show), forgot my sword for a Shakespeare scene (a fun lesson in improvisation), and saw a flat fall and land on an actor’s head here at St. Francis (hard to recover from that), but all pale in comparison to “The Year of Pandemic Theater!” But through it all, these kids have defined the meaning of “troopers” (troupers?) as they’ve remained committed to performing -- even though they had to wear foggy, clunky masks. And finding material has been half the challenge. But, in the venerable tradition of “theater magic,” material has emerged. Ten/Two was written in 2007 and turned out to be perfect for the distancing required to perform currently. And what a novel idea of building short scenes around the arbitrary numbers of two and ten! After reading two of the scenes, I knew we had a hit. And what a fun show for middle school students! From dating to getting your driver’s license, to losing your best friend, to the conflicted emotions beauty pageants bring, to hard-driving bosses, to a less than blockbuster children’s show, these scenes are funny, poignant, and simply a joy to create. We hope you enjoy watching them live or during our Watch Party as much as we’ve enjoyed bringing them to life! And, hopefully, next year we’ll be a little closer to normal -- whatever that means in 2021! But for now, let’s keep our TEN fingers crossed for TWO fabulous shows! Reed Gabhart
