Family Park—New Dog Park
We are excited to announce the addition of a new off-leash dog park located on the west side of Sioux Falls. The new facility is placed within Family Park and scheduled to open later this fall. Construction work on the 3-acre facility was completed earlier this summer, and includes separate areas for small dogs and any dogs. The project includes new fencing, concrete walkways, irrigated open space, benches, shade structures, natural dog play features, drinking fountains, and dog wash stations. In order to provide a high quality experience for all users, we are completing turf establishment prior to opening the facility. Once the turf areas are fully established, and capable of handling heavy traffic, the park will be opened and ready for public use.
Dog Off-Leash Areas
Parks and Recreation has two sites available for dog off-leash areas: • Lien Park—Located on the east side of North Cliff Avenue at the Big Sioux River, approximately one-quarter mile north of the Rice Street and Cliff Avenue intersection. Parking is available. • Spencer Park—Located at 3501 South Cliff Avenue by I-229. This is a permanently fenced dog park with off-street parking available. Rules for usage are posted. Each site has a picnic table, trash receptacle, and plastic bag dispenser for owners to use to pick up after their pets. For more information, call 367‑8222. FREE.

Falls Overlook Cafe
The quartzite building still standing on the east bank is the Sioux Falls Light and Power Company building, completed in 1908. The building housed three 500-kilowatt hydroelectric generators and used the dam and the millrace from the Queen Bee Mill. In subsequent years, the plant added additional coal-fired steam generators. The plant was abandoned in 1974 and donated to the city in 1977. Before remodeling took place to create the Falls Overlook Cafe, the building was in similar condition as when it was first constructed. Today, Falls Overlook Cafe serves a variety of family-friendly foods, ice cream treats, and beverages; beer and wine also available. Call 605-367-4885 or visit www. fallsoverlookcafe.net for hours of operation.

PARK DEVELOPMENT
Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with the Friends of Levitt Shell Sioux Falls, announced that Sink Combs Dethlefs design team was selected for phase one of the Falls Park West Improvements Project, including the Levitt Shell and festival grounds. Sink Combs Dethlefs teamed up with national mechanical and acoustic professionals, and local engineers and landscape architects, to formulate a highly-experienced, award-winning design team. The chosen design team is comprised of the following partners: • Sink Combs Dethlefs (architecture) • Stockwell Engineers (landscape architecture and civil engineering) • Structural Engineering Associates (structural engineering) • MEP Engineering & Lighting (mechanical engineering) • A/V & Acoustics (acoustical design)
The overarching goal of this partnership is to build community through music, which will energize downtown Sioux Falls with 50 free, professional performances each year. To facilitate these events, the proposed project will include creation of an outdoor amphitheater and festival grounds within Falls Park West, along Phillips Avenue in downtown Sioux Falls. Potential design elements for consideration with the project include an outdoor performance venue and support facilities, connective pathways, landscaping, open green spaces, and more.
Design of this project is scheduled to be conducted over the next 18 months. Construction activity is projected to start in early 2018 and be completed in 2019, with the goal of conducting the first performance in the summer of 2019.
Spellerberg Park Renovation We are excited to announce that work is scheduled to be complete on the renovation of Spellerberg Park this fall. The updated master plan for the park includes the relocation of the sand volleyball, basketball and tennis courts, replacement of the playground equipment and picnic shelter, and the addition of a restroom to serve the north side of the park. There will also be new pathways to the amenities in the park, drainage improvements to the west detention pond, and other landscaping improvements. The construction fence will be removed and the park will be open to the public once work is complete and grass has been established. This work is being done as part of the Midco® Aquatic Center project being managed by Sioux Falls Construction.
